Top 5 Video Games To Look Out For In Time For The Holidays

September 27th, 2013 by Rod

We are approaching holiday season and everything is heating up in the gaming world and is set to turn up even more this holiday season. Riding off of the success of the Grand Theft Auto V that made over $1 billion in sales after only three days of launch, it still costs over $260 million to make.  You have many hot games coming along with the next-generation consoles like the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

As an avid gamer, here’s my top 5 picks for games to look out for this season:

Top 5 Video Games For 2013 Holidays

Batman: Arkham Origins

This game is a prequel to the Batman: Arkham series w/ eight of the best assassins in the world have come to Gotham City for one night, Christmas Eve of all nights, to kill the Bat.  Now we know Black Mask is the one who put the hit out on Batman along with Joker, Bane, Firefly, Copperhead, Deathstroke, and some crooked cops within the GCPD.  This is due out on all platforms on October 25th.

Beyond: Two Souls

Born with a connection to a mysterious entity named Aiden w/ incredible powers, Jodie was different. In an adventure spanning 15 years of her life, your actions will determine Jodie’s fate as she faces extraordinary challenges, danger, and heartwrenching loss on a journey to discover the truth of who she is.  Beyond promises an emotionally-charged journey unlike any video game before.  This is a PlayStation exclusive and due out October 8th.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts

Not only do we get the new addition of an attack dog at your disposal (attack dogs will be playable on multiplayer), we finally get some equality of having the option of female soldiers in the mix. Ghosts has a larger variety of modes to enjoy along w/ the classics like Free For All, Team Deathmatch,  Search + Destroy, Domination, Kill Confirmed (my favorite!), Search + Rescue, Grind, Blitz, Cranked, Infected, and Hunted.  There’s a Squad mode that allows gamers to play solo, co-op, or against one another/AI.  In Safeguard mode offers a 4-player co-op mode and Squad Assault opens things up for 6-player co-op.  The latest Call Of Duty installment is coming on November 15th.

Watch Dogs

This is beautiful mix of Grand Theft Auto stylings & Metal Gear espionage along with hacking + web 2.0 influences.   The game revolves around the main character Aiden Pierce who uses  a melee weapon, pistol, and his smartphone to hack into systems like traffic cams, other people’s phones, and more to retrieve information to complete a task. Coming November 19th for the PS3 + Xbox 360 and the newer console on the 15th.

Honorable Mentions For Next-Gen Consoles (Games For the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One):

Dead Rising 3 – you play the hero somehow stuck in a zombie-infested town and must survive.  But rather than use the traditional weapons such as guns, knives, and such – you can get creative and attach a sledgehammer to a circular saw and have a double-edged weapon to fend off the undead.
NBA Live 14 – After missing out last year, Ea Sports is back with the NBA Live franchise.  At E3, they revealed a super-brief trailer starring Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers doing some quick dribbling that displays their new physics system called BounceTek.  Yeah, I know.  I guess they think they still have their following and NBA 2K didn’t take them all.
Ryse: Son of Rome – This is a 3rd person combat in a sort-of free world environment that takes place in Rome (of course) during the days of gladiators who fought to the death as a spectator sport.
All three of these titles are launch titles for the newer consoles and will be available in November or December.
