LG’s Latest Smartphone the LG G2 Now on Verizon Wireless

September 16th, 2013 by Analie

The highly anticipated LG G2 is now available on Verizon Wireless. Last month LG announced the LG G2 and we had a great first impression of it. The phone is unique in which the home button is located on the back side, that’s right, the back side of the phone. The volume rocker surround the home button. LG thinks that the phone will feel more natural that way. The LG G2 is now available on Verizon Wireless!

When playing around with the LG G2, I was surprised at how comfortable the phone felt, even when using the home button at the unusual place. But that was only for a few minutes. I will see how it is on a day to day basis when we get our review unit in.
Check out our first impressions of the LG G2 HERE

First Impressions: Nokia Lumia 928 Windows Phone From Verizon Wireless

August 12th, 2013 by Christen

Upon opening the FedEx shipping box and discovering the Nokia Lumia 928 by Verizon Wireless I admit, I was skeptical.  After all, when a smartphone comes out the box boasting to “reinvent the way you do business” it has to come correct, or not t all.  After years of testing out the latest in iOS, Android and Windows smartphones, I’ve come to learn that no matter the technological advances or “coolness” factor – ultimately we all want a smartphone with the right combination of apps and specs as unique as we are that benefit our everyday lives.  No matter what device I’m currently using, there’s typically a heirachy of “standard must haves” that each of my smartphone need in order to compliment my lifestyle.

1.  Does it “look” & “feel” good in my hand?

2.  Is the camera quality good enough for sharable photos via social media & online publishing?

3.  Can I download Instagram, WordPress, Twitter & Facebook with ease?

After spending the weekend with my new device, I’ve compiled my first impression observations on Verizon’s flagship Windows phone.  If you’ve ever thought about getting a Windows 8 device – check out my initial reaction to the device below (AND… as a bonus Verizon Wireless is offering the Lumia 928 for free with 2-year service contract.)

Upon unboxing the Nokia Lumia 928, I couldnt help but notice the sleek design and ultra bright white color (a Verizon Wireless exclusive). Ive never been a fan of smartphone devices in white – mainly because my fear of makeup stains, visible scratches and other easy to spot blemishes that often steer stylish girls clear of the easy to stain color. However, the Gorilla Glass 2 touchscreen is virtually stain resistant, resulting in the color concentration to the backside of the phone. The size and weight of the Nokia Lumia 928 is comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S4 but with an solid weight of  160 grams it feels slightly more stable, secure & slip proof in the palm of my hand. (I fumbled & dropped my S4 plenty of times, actually more than any other smartphone ive ever owned before. So i can definitely tell a huge difference when holding the Lumia 928 in my hand.)

Nokia Lumia 928

Gorilla Glass 2 makes the Nokia Lumia 928 tough and does not easily “crack” under pressure.

Nokia Lumia 928

The rear of the Nokia Lumia 928 is impervious to stains found on other white smartphone devices.

I’ve known about the camera quality for some time now, but to see it in real-time action is a totally different experience.   The 8.7 MP PureView camera rear sensor produces luminous 3264 x 2448 pixel photos while the front facing camera is at an impressive 1280 x 960 pixels. It offers a variety of cinematic features too – perfect for photography geeks of novice users alike.  The video and audio quality was beyond my expectations for what a smartphone camera can do.  The crisp imaging & audio sound doesn’t just capture the content – it allows you to re-experience the moment with unimaginable clarity as if it was your first time.

“Sunny Selfies” in Long Beach with Ty of

Can you count the shades of blue, white, yellow, brown and black found in this picture? The Nokia Lumia 928 captures them all!

VIDEO TEST:  While out and about Sunday afternoon, I captured some video images and to my surprise the audio quality did not sound distorted, muffled or unrecognizable at all.  Check it out below.

When it comes to an easy to use smartphone – Windows has the competition beat.  Hands down.  That’s one thing that I’ve always loved about the Windows phone, the user interface is simple, easy to use and allow you to pin all of your most used apps to the home/start screen.  However, with a limited apps library, Windows probably won’t become a leader in application options anytime time soon.  I was able to download my favorite apps with ease, all with the exception of Instagram (However there are other options available that helped me with my quick pic Instagram fix almost immediately.)

Nokia Lumia 928

You can find “most” apps available in the Windows store – and even those you can’t find, you can typically find a comparable third party app to fill in it’s place.

Nokia Lumia 928

This isn’t Instagram app, it’s the Instance app. It allows you to share photos using the Instagram platform.

After two days with the Nokia Lumia 928 device, I’m learning more about the apps, HERE maps, Cinemagraph, Creative Studio apps and more daily.  It’s definitely a different user experience unlike any iOS, Android or Windows device I’ve ever used before – but I’m sure that I’ll learn to love this phone as lightening fast as the Verizon LTE network that it’s on!  Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing more of my initial findings on the Nokia Lumia 928 device soon!  For more about the Nokia Lumia 928 Windows phone and how you can score your own for free visit

Disclosure:  I’ve been provided the Nokia Lumia 928 Windows phone by Verizon Wireless for review, all experiences and opinions expressed are my own.  Please note that I often tweet using #VZWBuzz – VZWBuzz tweets include a 24/7 conversation and a Friday mobile lifestyle Twitter chat with an emphasis on providing information and education about devices, apps and tools useful to consumers. Move Over T-Mobile and Sprint – Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors Rising

July 17th, 2013 by Christen

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

If last week’s announcement of T-Mobile’s Jump upgrade plan and Sprint’s unlimited plans got your feathers a little ruffled (because you’re a Verizon Wireless customer) then here’s great news for you.

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

The folks at Droid Life have acquired a Verizon document detailing a new VZ Edge program that’ll allow customers to trade in their phones once they’ve paid off 50 percent of the purchase price. To join the program, Verizon will merely require a monthly fee of unknown amount, and in return, folks can get their upgrades early fee free and without contract. When will customers get the option to do so? According to the doc, launch is scheduled for Q3, August 25th, to be exact. So, if Verizon can stick to its schedule, its customers are just under six weeks away from being free from the tyranny of the new every two upgrade cycle.

Am I the only one excited about the battle for uncontractual deals? (yes, I made that word up – but you know what I mean!)  Anyday now, with carriers trying to up the ante on one another – could superior service + unmatched coverage soon be available to all – without contracts?  One could only hope…

Jill Scott sat down with Kevin Hart, Laz Alonzo and director Will Packer last week to discuss her latest projects with Verizon Wireless during Essence Music Festival weekend in New Orleans, LA.  Three-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, New York Times bestselling poet, and critically acclaimed actress are only a few titles held by Jill Scott. Before having the #1 album in the country with her new album, “The Light of the Sun”, performing at The White House, being named People magazine’s Top TV Breakout Star of 2010 and appearing on VH1 Divas alongside Aretha Franklin, the triple threat began her career collaborating with musical icons, The Roots, Will Smith, and Common in the late ’90s.

Most recently, Jill was cast as the lead character in the HBO/BBC miniseries filmed on location in Botswana. The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency made Jill the first African-American lead featured in a one-hour, cable drama series garnering a prestigious Peabody Award. Before that, Jill starred alongside Tyler Perry and Janet Jackson in the #1 national movie series Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? and sequel Why Did I Get Married Too, as well as Lifetime Movie Network’s Sins of the Mother, the made-for-TV movie which became the second-most watched premiere in the network’s history. Scott also developed an intimates line for Ashley Stewart and founded Blues Babe, a registered 501(c)3 foundation that has raised over hundreds of thousands of dollars to support minority students pursuing college degrees.  She most recently just wrapped up filming Woody Allen’s Fading Gigolo and Baggage Claim opposite Paula Patton.

Step Up To Living Your Best Life With Jawbone UP™

June 28th, 2013 by Christen

Jawbone UP™ review

Now more than ever, there are lifestyle enhancing gadgets to help anyone take control of their diet & exercise. Thanks to the good folks at Verizon Wireless, I got the chance to discover one of the most popular lifestyle gadgets on the market to date, the Jawbone UP™.  UP™ is a system that takes a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle. The wristband tracks your movement, sleep habits and so much more. The app displays your lifestyle data, allowing you add things like meals, mood and delivers insights that keep you moving forward.

I should probably disclose that I have been absolutely obsessed with my Jawbone UP™ for several months now, (after all, it made it into D&D’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide so it has to be big, right?) Ever since I discovered that not only does it monitor your daily steps like a pedometer and monitors your sleep patterns, but it can also be utilized to take your diet, gym visits & more into account to help you discover improvements to live your best life.

Jawbone UP™ review

The Jawbone UP™ uses Motion X technology which when paired with the accompanying app for your iOS or Android device gives you a completely new outlook on maintaining an active  & healthy lifestyle.  Track your weight, map your bike rides, access extensive food libraries and more, and that data will be seamlessly integrated into your UP feed, lifeline and trends. You can also view detailed UP sleep, movement, food and mood data within selected apps to make those experiences even better.

Jawbone UP™ reviewSTYLE

You can easily integrate this motion monitoring wristband into your everyday life.  UP™ was designed to fit seamlessly in people’s lives. Real life. It’s a thoughtful combination of engineering and design, custom-made for how we live.  UP is both flexible and strong. Sometimes UP needs to slide smoothly under sleeves or bend to accommodate an active lifestyle. Other times it has to be strong enough to stand up to a snowball fight without a problem (or more likely, a few thousand showers). Day and night, UP is right there with you.

Lithium-ion polymer battery
Up to 10 days of use between charges
USB charging cable—fully charges in 80 minutes
Sensor & Interface

Precision motion sensor
Single push-button interface

If you’re wondering how the Jawbone UP™ can help you, I can attest that since using the Jawbone UP™ for review, I’ve noticed an increased effort to get adequate sleep (experts suggest at least 8 hours of sleep each night) and efforts to achieve above average physical activity (its suggested that users walk an average of 10,000 steps a day — I have of a goal of 15,000 steps or 7 miles daily.)  Of course this wristband won’t instantly make you into a superhero but it definitely serves as a reminder to make better lifestyle choices regarding sleep, exercise and eating each and every day.

Last week, I got the chance to check out the new Blackberry Q10 from Verizon Wireless at the Grand Central store in NYC.  If you remember the days of old where typing a text or email didn’t require eye-contact with your smartphone keypad, then you were among the many welcoming the new BlackBerry Q10 with open arms.  BlackBerry has revived the QWERTY keyboard, re-imagined the power of the BlackBerry Hub plus added immediate productivity with instant action features – unlike anything ever seen on a smartphone before.

Similar to the BlackBerry® Z10 smartphone, the BlackBerry Q10 runs on the BlackBerry® 10 platform and includes a suite of features including smart keyboard software that understands and adapts to a user’s typing style. It creates personalized word suggestions and contextual auto corrections while a user types. Conversations can seamlessly move along without having to waste time fixing typos.  (Don’t believe me?   Then keep reading…)
