This post is sponsored by REELZ; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
It’s a Wednesday night and I found myself watching old comedies and writing (as I usually do…) To my surprise, I find myself crackin up aloud well after midnight while watching one of my favorite childhood movies starring Robin Williams, as “Mrs. Doubtfire”. (Back then, men in drag was absolutely comical – today, its as normal as every Tuesday.)
The crazy antics this dad went through just to see his kids was not only comical, but also enlightening to see the lengths that a man would go – to be a father for his kids. Clearly, kids in single family homes thought this was a fairytale – but I digress.
As hard as I laughed, its still kinda surreal that it was only one year ago that we lost the amazing comedian and actor Robin Williams at the age of 63. From Mork and Mindy to Good Will Hunting, Robin touched many of our hearts. If you’ve watched any of his movies, you’ll notice just how much you connect with the comedian and like me, understand why even after a year, it’s so hard to say goodbye.
“I just want to know one thing. Are your kids well-behaved? Or do they need like, a few light slams every now and then?” – Daniel Hillard/ Mrs. Doubtfire, Mrs. Doubtfire
What I’ve learned from the life and death of Robin Williams in quotes…
“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.”
“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”
“I’m history! No, I’m mythology! Nah, I don’t care what I am; I’m free hee!” – Genie, Aladdin
How do you remember Robin’s career? Was it Aladdin, Happy Feet, Mrs. Doubtfire, or Patch Adams? Maybe it’s all of them! Share your favorite memory or story of the late great comedian and tune in to discover more about his life and death this weekend on Reelz! Watch Autopsy: Robin Williams special on August 8th at 10PM ET/7PM PT.

The founders of Twitter could not have predicted this. Twitter and TV? But Twitter’s goal is clear now – if you enjoy watching good TV, take to Twitter and talk about – engage.
Scandal ranked #1 on the new Nielsen Twitter TV ratings for its season premiere last week. The popular drama clocked in 713,000 tweets reaching a Twitter audience of 3.7 million.
Breaking Bad’s season finale generated a record 1.24 million tweets. The conversation peaked at 22,373 tweets per minute.
Twitter’s history has been known for breaking news like the Arab Spring, US Airways Flight 1549 landing on the Hudson River, to Lady Gaga’s meat dress at the VMAs and now TV conversation.
Fred Graves, the head of Twitter TV said, “When viewers watch TV–their smartphone or tablet at their side–using Twitter to chat with their virtual friends about a program, it creates “the world’s biggest couch,” he says. And who better to have gossiping on the sofa with you than the star of the show?” I know you agree. I sure do. So if it’s Scandal, Breaking Bad, Games of Thrones, or Homeland, I look forward to reading the Tweets and engaging my Twitter friends in real time.
Nevertheless, Twitter has a few hills to climb – getting celebs to join Twitter and also Tweet about their TV dramas, which is the case with James Spader, the star of the highly rated The Blacklist. Spader is not on Twitter but the company is trying to get him on.
“The actor is returning to television this fall as a creepy criminal mastermind in a highly anticipated show called The Blacklist, Graver wants Spader on Twitter posting behind-the-scenes photos from the set, live-tweeting episodes, conversing with fans–and hell, maybe even tweeting creepy criminal-mastermindy things. That would be just fine.” (Fred Graver, Twitter’s head of TV)
And so as Nicole Laporte put it, “Today, Twitter and TV may be synonymous–a show is no longer a show without a requisite hashtag.”
Tell us what you watch and tweet.
U-S-H-E-R R-A-Y-M-O-N-D has been a very busy man. Not only is he preparing to star as boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard in an upcoming biopic, and is currently serving as a mentor on NBC’s “The Voice”, he’s also taken the time to star in a new Samsung-produced short film entitled “Looking 4 Myself”. In the film, Usher is locked in a battle and seeking revenge against the celebrity version of himself after fame destroys his romantic relationship. usher samsung tv
usher samsung tv
Highlighting the Samsung Smart TV, the film shows the features of the 2013 Samsung Smart TV. In the film, Usher uses motion control to scroll through images of he and his ex, and he also uses his dance moves to control a variety of features on the television (similar to the how-to video I filmed last year… shameless plug.)
It was my opportunity to kind of have an action-packed moment, which was off the beaten path of what I normally do. I don’t normally fight in videos that much, [though I usually] am kind of fighting myself. So it’s a battle between me and myself, but dramatized. The action was a little inspired by that Will Smith movie Hancock, and also The Matrix. There’s a lot of action, a lot of special effects, and a lot of stunts. But I don’t want to give everything away! –Usher Raymond on Samsung TV collaboration
What better way to give TV viewers what they want than to ask them. That’s what Amazon is doing. Amazon is trying to transform TV. Amazon is using social media to engage, market, and advertise its new TV series by using crowdsourcing to help select its next big web TV series. Crowdsourcing is a open-call of collecting information from a community of people to gain insight, contribution, and opinions. Consumers can participate, get their views heard, and make an impact.
The retail giant Amazon posted 14 TV pilots and ask viewers to critique them. Of the 14 TV pilots are a musical office comedity set in Manhattan, A live action comedy Alpha House, set in Washington, D.C. about four Senators, and Zombieland, a cult-like movie.
Amazon is innovating TV media and transforming how TV series are traditionally selected – either by focus groups or TV executives. Now, we get to decide what TV series get made. It will be the largest focus group ever and you can be apart of it.
Amazon is using its technology of tracking user behavior and buying style in this new field for them. In their production of these movies and TV series, they are crowdsourcing the creation of new content thereby they can track and offer more products and services based on your viewing habits. This new venture will also bring more revenue stream to Amazon Prime Instant Video Service. Amazon’s main online competitor is Netflix who also develops its own original content and video service.

In an attempt to combat the flat audio that most mid-range flat screen televisions provide, Boston Acoustics has unveiled its latest audio product – the TVee 10 sound bar.
It’s amazing how you discover a technology accessory that you never knew you needed, until you tried it. The TVee 10 is a new model that dramatically improves the audio of your TV without the power or obstructive space of a separate subwoofer. This simple, one-piece soundbar system brings powerful, quality, and dynamic audio to TV, movies, games, and music. Once you set up the TVee 10 sound bar, you will recognize the difference immediately (I heard baselines in tv commercial jingles that I never knew existed prior to listening with my TVee 10.)
The TVee 10 sound bar is designed to sit above or below your TV and features the Boston’s Digitally Optimized Virtual Surround (DOVS) technology for rich, immersive sound and BassTrac circuitry for clean bass at all listening levels. It includes two oval 5-inch drivers with the company’s BassTrac technology for stronger bass, and a 3.5mm input and digital optical for easy set up and crystal clear sound. In case you’re interested in mounting the sound bar on the wall, it includes an updated design with front-mounted controls and wall mounts on the back.
With one wire hook up, the TVee 10 sound bar set up was fairly easy. Once you determine which digital or analog input works with your system best, the rest is a simply programming you remote control. The TVee 10 can be programmed to operate with your TV’s remote control (no need to fumble with multiple remotes).
Now that I have a sound bar, I couldn’t imagine watching my favorite shows or movies without it. If you’re in the market to upgrade your listening experience and enhance the audio of your home television, you might want to look at investing in a simple accessory like the TVee 10. It’ll definitely make a difference in your in-home listening experience.
The TVee 10 retails for $199.99 at BostonAcoustics.com
Disclosure: DivasandDorks.com received the Boston Acoustics – TVee 10 for review through the CES 2013 Techlicious Moms program, however all opinions are my own.
Kerry Washington walks the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet cascading in white amidst cloud of bold colored gowns. Dressed in a two-piece Rodarte gown complete with a split V quilted top and flowing white bottom with a lace hem. She accessorized with a silver box clutch, diamond earrings, smokey eyes and a nude lip. Ask any Scandal fan and this look definitely looks familiar…
Kerry described her look as “Olivia Pope white” while talking to E! on tonight’s 2013 SAG Awards red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A.
Could Kerry be transitioning her look to appear more like Ms. Olivia Pope? Undoubtedly the most notable Olivia Pope outfit this season was her this ball gown by designer Jean Fares Couture.
Check out more Olivia Pope Style: Olivia’s Top Scandalicious Looks From ABC’s Scandal
Could Kerry be conjuring up the spirit of Olivia Pope for her future red carpet appearances? If so, we’ll definitely need to keep an eye out for Kerry Washington this red carpet season. She’s sure to have a few more surprises up her sleeves and we’re awaiting every moment of it.
What do you think of Kerry Washington’s red carpet look? Would you like to see more of Olivia Pope’s style infused in Kerry’s real life looks? Sound off below.
After watching enough reality TV you can feel as if you’ve learned absolutely nothing, and even possibly lost a few brain cells. However, some of the most fascinating story lines in reality TV come from the single woman’s search for lasting love, or romantic couples on the brink of disaster sprinkled with drama induced by egos, cocktails, a camera crew with millions of viewers tuning in weekly. After seeing a gambit of these shows over the years, what lessons can we really take and learn from it all? Here are a few reality TV lessons pertaining to dating.
Be careful to whom you give your love away.
Take it slow and do your research. We’ve seen from Catfish the importance of doing your research.
But knowing someone’s background can also prevent you from getting caught up like the women on All My Babies’ Mamas (spring 2013) about Shawty Lo, his 11 children, their 10 different mothers and his new 19-year-old girlfriend. It’s important to know what you what from your partner in terms of a family, and the possibility of an extended family. If children keep popping up while you’re dating, it’s probably time for you to pop up out of there and find someone else!
Move at your own pace and don’t let others influence you or tell you what to do.
In the fifth season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, Kandi Burruss found love among the show’s production team with her new boo, Todd Tucker. Even though RHOA co-stars have been pressing Kandi and Todd to get engaged, they hold firm in doing what works for them and shutting down those conversations before they get too deep. A perfect example of doing things at your own pace.
Communicate clearly what you want in the relationship and stand by your words.
At every turn Chrissy Lampkin boldly made it known what she expected from Jim Jones, starting on Love & Hip Hop and culminating on to Chrissy & Mr. Jones. Chrissy was determined she would not be walked all over by Jim’s mother; she demanded compensation for helping him build his fashion line; she set out clear boundaries for his interaction with other women; and she refused to have a child with him until he was mature enough to commit himself to her through marriage. Love her or hate her, Chrissy earned Jim’s respect by being a strong woman who knew her worth in his life, what she wanted and stood by her beliefs.
Pressuring a man into marriage is a guaranteed fail!
Believe it or not those peachy housewives have so much to teach us! RHOA’s Kenya Moore may have known how to win Miss USA but she has no clue how to win over Walter Jackson’s heart. She has shown us that by bringing every conversation around to “When do you plan to propose?” has gotten her nowhere but sleeping alone. Don’t wait for a relationship that doesn’t make you happy, but at the same time don’t force it into a ditch by arguing about marriage. SN ladies: Fake cooking a meal on nationwide TV does not work! There are too many simple and easy recipes out there for that.
Relax and enjoy the dating scene. Dating should be fun!
Use the “getting to know each other” phase as a chance to try new places, get dolled up and try out new make-up, take trips and do things you’ve never done before with the new person in your life. Well known exhibitionists Joe Budden and Kaylin Garcia, new stars of Love & Hip Hop season 3, are frequently posting on Instagram while out together at the strip club, sunning in the pool, working out, making late night runs to the store, or having date night, among many other things. You really can see how much they enjoy these activities with each other.
Keep some things private in your relationship.
Viewers love tuning in to The Family Hustle to see the King of the South, TI aka Tip Harris, be a daddy to his large brood of creative and fun-loving kids. Everyone knows how much TI and Tiny love each other, so keeping that part of their relationship private and focusing on the Harris children, helps keep their love solid as a rock. Remember: Everything is not for everybody, but there is definitely a lesson to be learned from all of the reality TV foolishness and drama.

Jesus, fix it!
February 4th on TNT
“Monday Mornings” is based on the novel by Sanjay Gupta. The medical drama follows a group of doctors based in Portland “as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings.” The title refers to the hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care. A touchy subject that will definitely be groundbreaking and controversial compared to other hospital shows.
