NYFW Uncovered: Backstage With Tracy Reese and SheaMoisture Spring 2016 RTW Collection

September 16th, 2015 by Christen
Tracy Reese Spring 2016

Tracy Reese has been associated with bright, retro-tinged floral prints; nipped-waist skirts; and sparkle for nearly 20 years. For Spring, her clothes were as glam and girly as ever, but there was a new, deconstructed ease. “I always love shape, but I wanted to find a way to do that without so much structure,” Reese explained backstage. Shine was a big message this season, and the light-catching, dance floor–ready pieces were easily the most exciting.

This season, Tracy Reese has partnered with SheaMoisture to illustrate her Spring collection theme from head to toe. Discover more from the Tracy Reese and SheaMoisture looks below!

According to Bok-Hee, Lead Hair Stylist for SheaMoisture, this year’s theme was simple.   “Sheer transparency enhanced by ‘moments of shine’ set the tone for the Tracy Reese collection this season. While distinctive details such as color and embellishment came into play, the vision was to keep the woman looking natural and truly authentic.”

The Tracy Reese and SheaMoisture beauty look completely reflects this – the skin is glowing and dewy while the nails are kept simple in design. With this in mind, I went about creating a no-fuss hair look signified by natural textures and an effortless chignon that perfectly complemented the overall finished look.” – Bok-Hee, Lead Hair Stylist

Get the Tracy Reese and SheaMoisture Hair Look:
  • Fight frizz and nourish hair by working in SheaMoisture Professional Curl Leave-In Conditioner.
  • Parcel out small portions of hair around the crown of the head to be set aside and gather the rest to be pulled into a low chignon.
  • Apply SheaMoisture Professional Finish Blow Dry Cream throughout hair as you pull it into a low ponytail at the nape. Layer SheaMoisture Professional Vibrant Color Shine Glaze onto strands to provide the ultimate clear shine boost.
  • To create the chignon, gently twist the hair from the nape of the neck to the ends, and then begin to coil it in a counter-clockwise circle. Continue to twist the hair into a bun shape using the index finger to hold it in place.Secure sides of the bun with bobby pins. Gently pull and loosen the edges of the bun to get the desired shape, then secure with more bobby pins.
  • With the remaining wispy pieces of hair, apply SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Texture Spray and use a teasing brush to create structure.
  • Finish by spraying SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist for hold and hydration.

NYFW Uncovered With SheaMoisture And Tracy Reese F/W Collection

February 16th, 2015 by Christen

As much as I love to watch the shows of New York Fashion Week – I can’t help but want to break out in a North West-esque tantrum because I want it all, RIGHT NOW!  I mean, having to wait for months until the collection becomes retail ready just isn’t something I want to accept all the time – and this time the Tracy Reese Fall/Winter collection is no exception. A runway show draped in powerful femininity and hints of urban warrior chic from head to toe dominated the runway and I got the chance to see it all form together backstage.

Tracy Reese

Show preparation begins with hair/makeup and nails and thanks to SheaMoisture, I got up close and personal with the hair team behind the sleek styles that rocked the runway. China/bantu top knots styled by lead stylist Bok-Hee and the Shea Moisture team were achieved using SheaMoisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smoothing cream, Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé and High Shine Glosser to create sleek and fierce styles for a collection of models from across the world.

Once ready to go – the models sashayed down the runway in frocks filled with patterns of Maasai reds, Ebony blacks and Cassava whites.  A collection inspired by the the evolution of heritage and how it has shaped today’s modern woman.  Check out my favorite (lust-worthy) looks from the Tracy Reese Fall/Winter 2015 collection below.

NYFW – Tracy Reese Fall 2012: The Flirty & Fabulous Side Of Fall Fashion

February 17th, 2012 by Christen

Once in a while, a collection hits the runway of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that makes you wish to fast-forward time and seasons. The Fall 2012 runway show by Tracy Reese was undoubtedly that collection for me.

Designer (and fellow FAB Cass Tech Alumni) – Tracy Reese.

One resounding similarity of each piece in the collection made me believe in the flirty, happiness that fall fashion brings. Usually, the change in seasons brings a melancholy feel and desire to extend summertime weather and fun – well into the autumn months. This collection however, showcases pops of print and colors that bubbles up the anticipation for seasonal & fashionable change. The confident, bold shades of orange and bright greens paired with embellished tops and form-fitting silhouettes will definitely be a hit for the bold, fierce fashionistas that’s unafraid of standing out in a room, on a runway or beyond.

Tracy Reese: Behind the Design

March 1st, 2011 by Christen

What does designer Tracy Reese and DivasandDorks.com founder have in common?  If you guessed – that we shared the same name on our diploma from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan – then you’d be RIGHT!

(For more on other illustrious Cass Tech graduates check below…)

With an innate desire to create beautiful things, Detroit native Tracy Reese headed for Manhattan in 1982 to attend Parsons School of Design where she received an accelerated degree in 1984. Upon graduation, Reese apprenticed under designer Martine Sitbon while working for the small contemporary firm, Arlequin.  Reese worked at some of the industry’s top fashion houses, including Perry Ellis where she was the design director for Women’s Portfolio.  Tracy Reese has become a mainstay in the fashion industry as she continues to develop a strong design philosophy by staying true to her specific point of view. Reese has collaborated with several top brands including Sally Hansen, Hue and most recently, a line of footwear, plenty by Tracy Reese for Keds, debuting in spring 2009.  Bright colors, unique prints and intricate patterns define Tracy Reese, plenty and frock! A consistent fashion favorite amongst industry insiders, celebrities and fashionistas alike, Reese crafts finely detailed looks that make a statement and are easy to wear, garnering the attention of the nation’s top media.
