Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear Watch Specs and First Impressions

September 4th, 2013 by Analie

It has been leading up to this for a while now. The Samsung Galaxy Note II just turned 1 year old in the last week of August. The Galaxy Note 3 is finally here. Just like many expected. Samsung announced three new Galaxy products. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, The Galaxy Gear, and a new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

We had a chance for some hands-on time with the devices. I can’t believe the Galaxy Gear is finally here. Check out the specs on the devices below:
The highly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 smartphone is of course bigger and better. This powerhouse devices begs for multi-tasking and note taking.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Specs

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Samsung Galaxy Gear

Display: 5.7-inch AMOLED 1,920×1,080 resolution; 386.5ppi
Cameras: 13 megapixel rear-facing camera / 2.1 front facing camera
Processor / RAM: 2.3GHz quad-core (LTE) / 1.9 GHz octa-core (3G) / 3GB RAM
Memory: 32 GB or 64 GB with MicroSD expansion slot
Battery: 3,200 mAh removable battery
Connectivity Options: bluetooth 4.0 / NFC / IR Blaster
Android OS: 4.3 Jelly Bean

How is the Galaxy Note 3 Different from the Galaxy Note II?

Well the camera has upgraded 5 megapixels. It has a much more powerful processor and 1 more GB of RAM.
The battery is a bit bigger as well. A big change is how it syncs with the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Lets talk more about that:

Samsung Galaxy Gear (Smartwatch)

The smartwatch is finally here. After many prototypes and rumors, the official Samsung Galaxy Gear was announced at Unpacked Episode 2. After playing wth it for a while, I am convinced that I need one in my life. It syncs nicely with the Galaxy Note 3 and allows you to do all those little things that we thought were too small for a phone to handle. For example, I lock my phone for privacy. Unlocking it becomes a bother, but with the Galaxy Gear, my Note 3 will unlock with certain actions. Check out the specs:
Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch compared to regular watch copy
Display: 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display at 320×320 resolutionCamera: 1.9 megapixel
RAM: 512 MB
Battery: 315 mAh Battery
Audio: 2 microphones / 1 speaker
Available Apps: Atooma, Banjo, Evernote, Glympse, eBay, Line, MyFitnessPal, Path, Pocket, RunKeeper, TripIt and Vivino
Features: Smart Relay, S Voice, Auto Lock, Find My Device, Media Controller, Pedometer, Stopwatch, Timer
I was super excited to play with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. It’s all about the little things. It has a camera, and quick notifications. It even has a set of apps that work well with it. I was pleasantly surprised. The Galaxy Note 3 has a gear manager for extra settings management of the watch. Some might find the watch a bit bulky, but with the features and specs, I think it’s a decent size.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2012 - Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

This Galaxy Note Tablet is a beast plain and simple. This 2014 looks great on paper. Check out the specs:
Display: 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 X 1600) Super clear LCD

Cameras: 8 megapixel rear-facing camera / 2.1 front facing camera
Processor / RAM: 2.3GHz quad-core (LTE) / 1.9 GHz octa-core (3G) / 3GB RAM
Memory: 32 GB or 64 GB with MicroSD expansion slot
Battery: 8,220 mAh removable battery
Connectivity Options: bluetooth 4.0 / NFC / IR Blaster
Android OS: 4.3 Jelly Bean
The Galaxy Note 10.1 didn’t seem laggy at all. They were brand new without much content on them. One of the new things you’ll see is the Air Command Wheel. It allows you to choose from different tasks that you can do with the S Pen. The notification bar was very familiar to that of the Galaxy S 4 and Note 3. I like how you can divide the screen between 2 apps for true multi-tasking. That means you can even have the same app open in two windows. For example, chatting with two different people from the same messaging app, or two internet tabs open.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - Divas and Dorks - Analie - FrontIt seems that Samsung has a product for everyone. Earlier this Monday morning, they sent out the press release for their new 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.  Not much has changed between this and the Tab 7 2.  Although the Tab 3 shares the same design language as the Note 8.0 tablet, the internals are pretty much the same as last year’s Galaxy Tab 2.0 model. Check out the features:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Specs:

  • Display: a 7inch LCD with 1024 x 600 resolution
  • OS: running Android 4.1 with Samsung TouchWiz UX
  • Processor: powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Storage: 8 GB or 16GB with MicroSD expansion slot

Samsung’s new budget tablet will come both a Wi-Fi model due out in May and a 3G model that makes calls in June.  No word on pricing as of yet but stay tuned. Since it’s supposed to be a budget tablet, it should be noticeably less than the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the Tab 2 series tablets.

Anyone in the market for a new budget tablet from Samsung?

Using the HP ENVY x2 by Hewlett-Packard we were encouraged to create a themed collage as inspiration for redecorating space at home.  (Participating in this project was sweet serendipity as I’ve been planning on reorganizing & redecorating my bedroom and office space as birthday gift to myself.)

What’s The @Microsoft Surface Really About? Here’s The Breakdown…

January 22nd, 2013 by Tech Staff

What is the Microsoft Surface?

Haven’t you heard?  Microsoft has launched its first tablet – Surface is what they call it and just like other tablets on the market it comes in a few flavors – Surface Windows RT and Surface Windows 8 Pro.

Surface RT

The Surface Windows RT was launched October 2012, and the Surface Windows 8 Pro will launch near the end of January 2013.  Yes, these two tablets are identical in its sleek styling, durability, detachable keyboard, kickstand, front facing camera and social media and networking features.  The sales and reviews for the RT version were not that great due to the omission of one key component buyers where looking for – Microsoft Office.   Windows RT sold just 1 million tablets since its release in October.  In comparison, the iPad sold 3 million tablets its first 3 days on the market.  However, the high-end Windows 8 version as garnered much praised and it’s not even available yet.  Why?  Let’s compare the two.

The big differences between these two tablets is the storage space, the size and screen quality, the powerful CPU, and full Microsoft Office applications installed on the Surface Windows 8 Pro.  Also, the added benefit of adding non-Microsoft products is a plus.  Tell a diva – which would you buy?

Verizon And HTC Partners For NYC Launch Event

November 7th, 2012 by Tech Staff

Could HTC’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Note II be unveiled next week in NYC?  According to GottaBeMobile.com

Verizon will likely launch a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 competitor in the form of the HTC Droid DNA, a device that was once called the Droid Incredible X and whose codename is HTC DLX. The device, which looks like a smartphone of the phablet variety, will aim to take on the LG Intuition and the Galaxy Note 2 this holiday season. Here is everything that we know so far about the device.

While Verizon already has one phablet, a name for a device that marries the features of a smartphone and tablet, out on the market in the LG Intuition, it seems as though it will be offering two other choices to consumers in the weeks ahead.

We’ll have to wait to discover what Verizon and HTC has up it’s sleeves for next week……

(Numbers Don’t Lie) Samsung Galaxy Note II Sells 3 Million Units In 30 Days

November 2nd, 2012 by Christen Rochon

It’s official!  Today, Samsung has announced that it had sold 3 million units of the Galaxy Note 2 after just 30 days – that’s three times faster than its predecessor.  The original Galaxy Note was deemed a success, but took 90 days to hit the same 3 million mark.  The Galaxy Note 2, at this point, is scheduled to surpass the original Galaxy Note in sales with the holiday shopping season about to hit full throttle and with launches on AT&T and Verizon, the United States’ two largest carriers, by mid-November.  Last week, Samsung kicked off a huge celebration in NYC featuring Kanye West for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung camera and this week they’re celebrating great momentum gearing up for the holiday season.

DID YOU KNOW:  Samsung topped the global smartphone market in the July-September third quarter with 56.3 million sales, more than double Apple’s 26.9 million iPhone sales. The two companies controlled combined 46 percent of the global smartphone market.

AT&T’s Galaxy Note 2 has been up for pre-order since October 25th with a release date scheduled for November 9th. Verizon’s Galaxy Note 2 has been up for pre-order since then as well though its release date remains unclear.  (C’mon Verizon – I need that Galaxy Note II, like yesterday…)

Five Reasons Why Buying The iPad Mini Is A BAD IDEA

November 2nd, 2012 by Tech Staff

It’s arrived in stores today with lack-luster thunder…yeah right.  Of course the masses will follow suit yet again and purchase Apple’s newest miniature iPad… Why? Because spending hard earned cash on anything Apple-related is always a great idea.. Right? WRONG..  Based on a few recent updates, redesigns and contrasts against similar mini tablets on the market, it’s safe to say that buying the iPad Mini today is a bad, BAD IDEA.

5.  The iPad Mini costs too much, ($329) especially considering the lower resolution of its 7.9-inch non-Retina Display. The A5 processor isn’t as robust as the one in the fourth-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Typing on the smaller screen is not quite as comfy.

4.  Based on numerous reports, crowds waiting in line at Apple retail stores are A LOT smaller than they have been in the past for other launches.  Which means that if there isn’t a great demand for the product, you probably shouldn’t be clamoring for one in your hands too soon.

3.  If you thought buying an iPad Mini today would get you the lightning speed you need, think again.  Apple isn’t launching the LTE-enabled iPad Minis until later in the month.  (Talk about a bait & switch…) This is a significant factor in analysts predicting WEAK opening weekend sales for the new device.

2.  Something as small as the iPad Mini should at least have multiple functions like the Galaxy Note II.  What’s the use of carrying a smaller tablet AND a smartphone if you don’t have to?

1.  Buying the iPad Mini opening weekend reinforces the idea that it’s okay to create updated versions of devices sooner than loyal consumers can afford them.  There are countless iPad 2 and even New iPad owners that will not be buying the iPad mini or 4th generation iPad because it’s too much, too soon.  Next thing you know, Apple will be expecting consumers to sell their first borns just to keep up with purchasing the production of new idevices…Good Luck With That…

What do you think?  Will you become a new iPad Mini owner this weekend?

Could The Microsoft Surface Be On Oprah’s ‘Favorite Things’ List This Year?

November 2nd, 2012 by Tech Staff

Amidst a nasty rumor that Apple declined to gift Oprah Winfery’s audience iPads during one of her last appearances years ago on The Oprah Winfrey show.  A new tablet has made it’s way to the famed “Oprah’s Favorite Things” gift guide this year – the Microsoft Surface.

“It feels like a Mercedes-Benz to me, people!” gushes Oprah in the December issue of O, on newsstands Nov. 6. Her “Favorite Things 2012? list was released online Thursday.

“The full-size keyboard built right into the cover makes work easy, the very smart kickstand makes watching a movie or Skyping a friend a delight, the less than a pound-and-a-half weight makes a great alternative to a laptop,” she adds.

This is a HUGE endorsement for the Microsoft brand, and it’s sure to affect upcoming holiday sales for the Surface.  Are you interested in the Surface now that it’s made Oprah’s “Favorite Things” list?
