Today Is The Last Day To Discover If Sprint & Verizon Owes You A Refund!

December 30th, 2015 by Tech Staff

The Sprint and Verizon refund deadline Is here!  The clock is ticking for Verizon and Sprint customers to apply for their share of a $158 million dollar refund.  If you have or have had service with either mobile carrier at any point since July 2010, you are eligible to apply.

The Federal Communications Commission reached an agreement with both wireless carriers after they were investigated for “cramming ,” or charging customers without their knowledge or permission for premium third-party text messaging services for things like horoscopes, sports scores, flirting tips, celebrity gossip, and so on. Customers were typically charged about $10 per month for the unwanted services, which were buried in their bills.

AT&T and T-Mobile were part of a similar settlement last year but the deadline has passed for refunds from those carriers. Verizon has agreed to refund $90 million to customers, while Sprint is paying back $68 million. How much you’ll get back depends mostly on how many people request refunds. As part of the agreement, from now on, Verizon and Sprint must get your permission before placing extra charges on your bill. They must also provide a free service to block third party charges from your account.

To claim the refund, customers must file a claim on the refund websites – click here for Sprint or Verizon. But you must act fast – the deadline is this Thursday, December 31st.

Why The Sprint And T-Mobile Merger Could Mean Bad Biz For Customers

June 6th, 2014 by Christen

So now that the word is out on the Sprint and T-Mobile merger, could that be a set back on the industry and bad business for customers?  The two wireless companies are reportedly close to a $32 billion merger. Sprint, the larger company, would pay $40 a share to take over T-Mobile.  T-Mobile has killed the two-year contract, meaning subscribers are no longer locked into deals with the company. It has eradicated roaming charges for calls and data in over 120 countries. And it pays the termination fees for customers who want to break out of contracts with other carriers.

Although these tactics have cost T-Mobile a lot of money, they have paid off in terms of new subscribers: T-Mobile added more subscribers in the latest quarter than Verizon and AT&T combined.

Since AT&T and T-Mobile tried unsuccessfully to merge in 2011 — a merger that Sprint itself came out against — T-Mobile has taken dramatic steps to compete with the big players. That, in turn, has forced the big players to change the way they do business (which has been a huge win for consumers!)

Sprint and T-Mobile

Since Americans have only a handful of options when it comes to deciding who to go with for mobile phone service.  If Sprint and T-Mobile have their way, we could have even fewer (which would be horrible for consumers).  Wall Street analysts say there’s a good chance regulators will reject the deal, and with good reason: If approved, it would dramatically reshape the entire wireless industry scope in the United States.

Right now, AT&T and Verizon each control a bit more than a third of the U.S. wireless market. A combined T-Mobile and Sprint would account for most of the final third.

A wireless monopoly that could potentially be hazardous for consumers.  Less competitive pricing and almost no industry shaking deals could be eminent and if so, this could be bad business – (not just for Sprint and T-Mobile customers,) but for an entire wireless customer community involved.

What do you think?  Are you ready to see another mobile monopoly take shape soon?

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

If last week’s announcement of T-Mobile’s Jump upgrade plan and Sprint’s unlimited plans got your feathers a little ruffled (because you’re a Verizon Wireless customer) then here’s great news for you.

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

Verizon Wireless Has Upgrade Rumors

The folks at Droid Life have acquired a Verizon document detailing a new VZ Edge program that’ll allow customers to trade in their phones once they’ve paid off 50 percent of the purchase price. To join the program, Verizon will merely require a monthly fee of unknown amount, and in return, folks can get their upgrades early fee free and without contract. When will customers get the option to do so? According to the doc, launch is scheduled for Q3, August 25th, to be exact. So, if Verizon can stick to its schedule, its customers are just under six weeks away from being free from the tyranny of the new every two upgrade cycle.

Got Sprint or T-Mobile? Then You’ve Got Upgrades Coming Your Way

July 13th, 2013 by Christen

There’s been a shakeup this week in the mobile carrier community caused by Sprint and T-Mobile and you may want to do something about it.

tmobile jump upgrades

T-Mobile, which recently rebranded itself as the “uncarrier” among U.S. wireless companies because of its abolishing of traditional two-year contracts, on Wednesday announced a new program called Jump to give customers on its network more freedom to upgrade their phones.  Starting July 14th, customers will be able to upgrade phones twice a year, with the first upgrade coming in no earlier than six months. Jump costs $10 a month and includes insurance for the phone. Customers will be required to trade in their old phone.

sprint unlimited upgrades

Just a day after T-Mobile debuted its Jump upgrade plan, Sprint has answered with its own new plans that promise unlimited data for life. Starting July 12th, both new and existing Sprint customers can take advantage of the carrier’s offer by signing up for one of its new My Way or My All-in plans.

The new Unlimited, My Way plans features unlimited talk, text and data starting at $80 per month. However, you can opt for 1GB for data for $70 monthly if you’re looking to save money. You can also choose to add 1GB of hotspot data to your phone for $10 per month.

And how will AT&T and Verizon respond with competing customer deals?  Hopefully we’ll hear something very soon…

Are you a Sprint customer & plan to upgrade to the new unlimited My Way or My All-in plans?  Why? Are you a T-Mobile customer who’s looking to upgrade devices twice a year?  Share your thoughts below…

Texting & Driving Isn’t Just A Teen Problem…Take The Pledge & Spread The Word #ItCanWait

July 12th, 2013 by Christen

Texting & Driving isn’t just a teen problem… more and more adults do it everyday!  The lid hiding the misconception of texting and driving has been uncovered, and the fact is there are more adults who text and drive than teens.  So what does that mean to you?  That means that there are more seasoned, commuters on the road who believe that they’re capable of  texting while operating a motor vehicle and putting more and more people in danger now than ever before.

Earlier this year, AT&T released the results of its latest commuter survey which showed 49% of commuters admitted to texting and driving versus 43% of teens. These findings finally dispelled the myth that texting and driving is predominantly a teen problem, when in fact, commuters are more guilty of it.

it can wait

While there are impactful psa commercials on tv & celebrities like Gabby Douglass and Demi Lovato bringing light to the #ItCanWait campaign, many people still do not realize the dangers that texting while driving can cause.  That’s where you can help!  You now know that texting and driving is wrong, so why not spread the word?

Here are TWO QUICK and easy ways you can spread the word, take a stand and show support.

Step One:  Take the #ItCanWait pledge.  “I just took the pledge @ now NO TEXT IS WORTH THE RISK. #itcanwait”

Step Two:  Use your social media channels to spread the word & show that you’re publicly taking a stand:

Put Your Skills To The Test With The Texting While Driving Simulator Online

If you’ve ever thought that texting while driving was dangerous for everyone except you – or that you have exceptional multitasking skills which include texting & eating lunch while driving, then I’ve got news for you.  It appears that more adults are becoming culprits of dangerous texting and driving activities than teens.  That’s according to the results of a survey conducted by AT&T and published in USA Today, showing that 49% of adult drivers admit to texting behind the wheel. Compare that with 43% of the teen respondents admitting that they text while driving.

texting while driving

Many adults may believe that their experience will never fail when it comes to texting while driving, however they’ve changed their tune after experiencing the Texting While Driving Simulator online.  The online simulator puts you in “real life” scenarios causing you to choose between answering a text or making a wrong driving decision (which could ultimately cause you to crash — or worse, lose your augmented reality life!)

texting while driving

I recently tried out the simulator and as a driver who once thought that she’s the queen of auto multitasking, I can whole-heartedly attest that the simulator game reveals a first hand account of how seriously dangerous texting while driving truly is.  During the simulator, my online driving experience was paired with my smartphone which enabled me to receive text messages while maneuvering the driving simulation online.  My first idea was to keep a minimum driving speed which would help my reaction and reply time once I began to receive text messages – but clearly that didn’t work.  (Note:  If you’re not driving within 10miles of the speed limit, your simulation session will end).

texting while driving

However, the moment I began speeding using the simulator and tried to respond to a text, I was prompted to make a left turn & before I knew it – I collided with a city transit bus.  This simulation is a great example on how it only takes a moment to get into a serious accident if you’re texting while driving.  After a few additional attempts, I am convinced that trying out this simulator with a co-worker, a friend, a teen or an adult will truly impact their beliefs on texting while driving – and hopefully save lives this summer in the process.

If you believe that “No text message is worth dying for” take the “It Can Wait” Pledge and join the AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile & Sprint as a champion for this campaign for change.  If you have yet to try out the simulator, check it out here at
