If you’re still not convinced that Spring is here to stay (even after a near 90-degree day in New York City on Monday) look at your calendar, is it starting to look a bit fuller than usual? A filled calendar is the true indication that Spring has Sprung and with weddings, parties, vacations and more isn’t it time you stepped up and spring cleaned your beauty regime?
The warmer it gets, the less likely you are to pile on the makeup – so let’s start with the foundation instead shall we? Your hair, smile & skin. A clean pallette is the ultimate accessory this spring and there’s no better way to enhance your natural beauty than with these skin cleaning must haves.
- Clean. Get rid of dull winterized skin by exfoliating & getting a deep down clean with Neutrogena’s Microdermabrasion System.
- Water. Drink 8-10 glasses a day and watch mother nature purify your skin and rejuvenate your body from the inside out.
Go for bottled water or this handy filtered water bottle from Rubbermaid, either way they’re compact and can go with you anywhere!
- Brighten. Nothing says a healthier, more beautiful you than a nice bright smile. No need to call a Dentist, your neighborhood Walgreen’s has tons of smile brightening options from at home kits, toothpastes & oral washes too.
- Go Green (well sorta…) Did you know that there are hair styling tools that’ll give you a salon style without the use of a curling or flat iron? Toss those hairstyling tools away for the season and try using hair rollers, rods & pins to create stylish looks for Spring.
With Spring’s busy event season in full effect, there’s no reason why you have to sacrifice time or convenience while on the road to becoming beautiful. Check out a few of these bloggers and their stories on how to get fabulous in a flash, just in time for Spring’s busy event season…
- ELZABELZ - I’ve been dreaming of hosting a really cool fancy dress party and wondering what I’d wear. Time for a post on Special Event Style! What? You don’t dream up parties and imagine the outfits you’d wear?
- THE BABY SHOPAHOLIC - If you have been reading my blog longer then a week you know I attend a lot of different types of events. Remember Mister’s big Movie Premier? In my head, I hype it up like I am going to hit the E!
- MINORITY WEIRDOS - The great thing about being a lady is that we have so many options for our personal beautification projects from different colors, foundations to cleansers and more. It’s so much to decide on and make good decisions about.
- MUSHKI LOVES - Do any of you have special events to attend? What do you consider a special event? For me a special event would be going to a baptism for a niece or nephew. A church function or a family event, or going out for a date night with the hubby!
- MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG - It used to seem like I had endless amounts of time to get all dolled up for different things, like parties, dancing and baby showers, but now? What I wouldn’t give to have a whole afternoon to get ready.

How To Tackle The Trend: Tangerine Tango
March 27th, 2012 by ChristenIf you are looking to breathe new life into your spring wardrobe, the color trend of the season is undoubtedly orange. As Pantone’s 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango, a vibrant reddish orange hue, has popped up all over the red carpets, runways, cars & is celebrities “go-to” color of the season!

As Tangerine Tango can be a tricky shade to wear, MyHabit Senior Fashion Editor, Jenny Feldman shares her tips and tricks of the trade.
“One of my favorite spring essentials is always the classic white jean. The crisp bottoms look fresh paired with a bright tangerine tee and a pair of matte, hand-worked leather sandals…”

Supermodel Elle Macpherson pairs white jeans with Tangerine Tango orange top...
“Complement with another juicy fruit color, such as corally pink, lemon or aqua. This season is all about color-blocking, which can be created by wearing 2-3 bold colors and layering appropriately…”

Celebrity Stylist & Star of VH1's 'Styled By June' rocks the colorblocking trend effortlessly pairing a tangerine blazer with vibrant purple slacks.
“Update your handbag. Spring is the ideal time for a bag that doesn’t take itself too seriously, so trade your winter black bag for a tangerine-hued satchel or tote in pebbled leather or a durable fabric.”
“Punch up your khakis with tangerine accents. This will add playfulness to your weekend look, whether it’s casual shorts, cargos or preppy chinos.”

Rolando's resort collection filled with khaki, chino and orange trends of the season.
“Go floral with a splashy sheath. This season’s blooms are oversize, graphic and, preferably, tangerine.”

The Perfect Dress Silhouette For Spring!
March 8th, 2012 by ChristenThe latest trend for style savvy fashionistas is out! Tulip shapes are in for Spring! Typicially, April showers bring May flowers but this Springtime silhouette is perfect for almost any body type whether its officially Spring or not!
For my ladies who are a little more top heavy than others, you definitely want to use volume, colours and pattern to take the eye to the lower half of the body and create balance through the body. Avoid volume and detail at the bust, keeping your top-half simple, but without hiding the waist line. The easiest way to show off your best assets is in the hottest silhouette of the season – the tulip shaped dress!
Check out DVF’s version of the tulip shaped dress – perfect for Spring! A key silhouette for Spring, the Dallas is a modern take on the classic shift. Its subtle tulip shape is sophisticated enough for work and playful enough for cocktails. With front pockets, deep pleats and additional pockets at side seam.
Would you venture into Spring’s hottest trend with this shape-loving dress?

Fashion According To Mom…
May 9th, 2011 by ChristenThis past weekend, I had the best conversation with my Mother. Although we weren’t able to be together on Mother’s Day – we had a fabulous time discussing the two F’s……Family & Fashion. I was so enamored with her thoughts on fashion & trends that I had to share it with you…directly from the ORIGINAL DIVA…my mom.
As we begin to chat, I ask my mom for inspirational thoughts or ideas for my next post on DivasandDorks.com. My mom then begins to reveal her likes and dislikes of fashion and seasonal change, she explains; “I love the whimsical, feminine designs that’s in everyday spring fashions. The old-world details that’s on skirts, blouses and even t-shirts.”
When I asked her about what trends need to go, she says: “Skulls. There’s nothing pretty about skull and bone designs. We’ve dressed them up with rhinestones and glitter and now it’s time to let it go to the grave already!”
I then ask, ‘So you don’t want to see anymore skulls, but what would you like to see more of?’ She emphatically explains, “If I want to see more of anything, it’s a nice tailored Ralph Lauren, seersucker blazer or box pleated linen dress. You can’t get any fresher than that!”
Ralph Lauren Callough Seersucker jacket (Ralph Lauren Rugby).
“Nautical fashion is where it’s at…”

“Let’s without intrepidation embrace the summer whites and linens – for there’s nothing better than any woman in a white linen suit.” – My Mom

Badgley Mischka Women’s White Linen Pant Suit.
“Let’s embrace life, its bright and its spring – we’re finally out of the clutches of winter. Let’s embrace it, the different hues of colors; the oranges, the sunrise. The yellow of fresh-blooming daffidiles. The greens of the earth, the rich color of the grass.”

Ann Taylor
As her poetic-fashionable monologue continued, I thought to myself, “WOW, she’s hitting the nail on the head with these…” we chatted for several hours more, discussing family vacations, news and politics and back again to fashion until she abruptly asked…
“…But it’s not about me…What would you like to see?”
What would you like to see more of in fashion? Ask your Mom, you’d be surprised at her answers…
