Let’s face it, not all nerds are created equal. We know this, and thankfully we’re not at the top of any nerd’s megabrained list. However, we definitely know a thing or two about mobile, computing and consumer electronics – and more importantly, we know that this year’s #2013CES will be the most impactful Consumer Electronics Show yet. If you’re wondering how in the world a electronics convention could have any impact on what you have going on in your life today, you’re sadly missing the boat. The announcements, premieres and unveilings happening over the next two days might just be the products meant to make your life unbelievably easier and impact your 2013 more than you know.
1. samsung, Samsung, SAMSUNG!
Among the companies present at CES, Samsung will be one of the most influential. The company has evolved from challenger to champion in recent years, displacing Sony as the world’s largest manufacturer of high-end TVs. Not only has Samsung produced amazing televisions, home electronics and smartphones throughout the years now with their sights set on tablets and cameras – this company is sure to set the standard for innovation during CES 2013.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: This is the year where consumer electronics meets customized streaming content and word on the block is that Samsung has already begun making waves into the next level of content creation with the mSpot streaming services.
2. Connected Convenience
This year, if it’s not ready to go out of the box, it’s not truly effortlessly connected and therefore could no way become a leader in the world of connected convenience. That’s what it’s all about this year at CES and you’ll undoubtedly see and hear more and more about Bluetooth this and WiFi that. With over 61% of households having WiFi, manufacturers are banking on making products that are easily parable and that makes the most of this new wireless lifestyle.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: Have you sat in a newer model Chevy, Cadillac or Acura lately? Not only are households becoming well connected but cars are too. We’re headed into a wireless world, whether you like it or not and if you want to transition with the latest in consumer electronics, you better learn how to pair that smartphone with your refridgerator, your mp3 player to your car and that tablet to your tv.
Even during its’ absence from CES – Apple still manages to dominate with this year’s iLounge Pavilion. The iLounge Pavilion features the latest and greatest third-party accessories and software for Apple’s iPod®, iPhone® and iPad®. From electronic plug-ins to fashionable cases, speakers, headphones and exciting new games and applications, you’ll be amazed by the opportunities created by their great designs and features. More than 500 companies that make peripheral technologies for Apple devices have signed up to show their wares at CES.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: Apple is constantly evolving it’s products, from mp3 players, to smartphones and now with rumors of a new revolutionary television device – you’ll definitely need to be aware of all the gadgets, accessories that could make for easy living with your new tv in the future.
4. Windows 8
First off, Microsoft isn’t officially at the show this year – but you can expect more Windows 8 tablets, laptops, and tablet / laptop hybrids boasting the new operating system in it’s physical absence. While many of the major companies — Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung, etc. — released Windows 8 tablets and computers before the holidays, you might be surprised at what some were holding back. We’re also holding out for some interesting tablet concepts from Intel, Nvidia and others.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: As supercharged laptop computers evolve, each company is not only attempting to convince you that their product is similar, but they’re also becoming competitively priced to aggressively battle it out for that consumer dollar. (It’s a great time to be in the market for a laptop or desktop computers.)

Last week fans here in America and across the pond were ecstatic to see this image on Facebook of hot British actor, Idris Elba, on set for the first day of shooting season 3 of the intense crime-drama and psychological thriller, Luther.
Since season 2 concluded in summer 2011, hundreds of thousands of fans have eagerly awaited the return of DCI John Luther, “a man in ruins, but with a heart the size of the moon. Bloodied and battered, but somehow still standing. And still doing what he can,” says series creator Neill Cross. After the vicious murder of his wife, Luther has become just as self-destructive as he is loving towards those he cares about.
At last season’s ending, Luther was sinking into dark depths to solve serial murders (remember the masked “folklore-ish” murderer and the “roll the dice” copycat killer?), while protecting a young Jenny Jones from sleeping prostitution and pornography after her father’s imprisonment (and subsequent suicide) at the hands of Luther himself.
Season 3 trailer promises “four perfectly dark, chillingly formed episodes” but leaves the question of whether the murderous child genius and seductress, Alice, will return to the show. Join together and cross your fingers for some steamy, flirtatious exchanges between Luther and Alice! Will they take their complex, wayward “relationship” to the next level?
As fans awaited Luther’s return, Idris has kept us entranced between filming the Nelson Mandela biopic, Long Walk to Freedom in South Africa (with Skyfall Bond Girl Naomie Harris!), appearing in British GQ, interviewing superstar Lucy Lui, spinning as DJ Driis, putting out house music under his alter ego 7 Wallace, and co-directing/starring in the recently released Mumford and Sons video, “Lover of the Light.” Elba’s dark and sexy looks, Renaissance-man swag, and award-winning acting stay winning for team #IdrisElba and #Luther.
What are your favorite Idris Elba films/appearances? What are you hoping to see in season 3 of Luther? Tell us below…
Despite the Nor’easter blizzard brewing in NYC, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was blazing hot Wednesday night inside the Lexington Armory. Veteran model Adriana Lima opened the show wearing a ringmaster outfit. Who could believe the 31-year-old model just gave birth to her second daughter barely two months ago? From child birth to runway in a matter of weeks!
Her thoughts on motherhood? “The best job in the world for me is being a mom,’ she said. ‘I never thought I could love so much. I always thought, does unconditional love exist? Now I know it does because I feel it.” That explains the post-maternity glow she carries with her on the runway.
Several actresses that have tried to pull this off, but were no where near this fit. This definitely goes down in the record books for the quickest maternity turn-around in entertainment history. Her secret? The V.S. Angel shared some of her post pregnancy diet and workout regimes on Twitter the day of the show. Her secrets include rigorous workouts and boxing sessions with trainer Michael Olajide, Jr.
Other model mothers were on the runway last night included Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Lily Aldridge.
It’s hard to believe these women have had any kids. If this isn’t motivation! Anything is possible with hard work and dedication. Fellow Angel Doutzen Kroes also revealed some of the diet secrets of the lingerie-clad models when she posted an image to her Twitter account of the ingredients in her morning shake, which includes chocolate powder, acai powder, organic shredded coconut, flaxseed, hunza mulberries, raw chia seeds and Goji berries. I applaud these ladies. Modeling isn’t as easy as it looks, and the behind the scenes work is much more intense than what is seen on screen.
For more from last night’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show check out the pictures below. The show, which featured performances from Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, will air Dec. 4 on CBS.

OH the Glamour! The brilliant Kati Stern pulled out all the high-fashion stops for the SS 2013 Venexiana fashion show. Billowing boas, whimsical crystal beading, and dramatic silk and taffeta gowns floated down the runway in contrast to the flashing lights and booming music in The Studio of Lincoln Center. Onlookers literally Oooed and Ahhheed as each model flaunted down the runway.
Hair and makeup was reminiscent of old Hollywood black and white films, with luscious faux lashes and perfectly contrasted sausage roll up-dos. The very romantic collection boasted of magnificent construction, ruffles, crystal appliques, and rich bold fabrics and colors. With award season approaching, many of these red carpet looks are sure to make a few appearances.
