Four Reasons Why This Year’s #2013CES Will Impact Your Life For The Better
January 8th, 2013 by Christen
Let’s face it, not all nerds are created equal. We know this, and thankfully we’re not at the top of any nerd’s megabrained list. However, we definitely know a thing or two about mobile, computing and consumer electronics – and more importantly, we know that this year’s #2013CES will be the most impactful Consumer Electronics Show yet. If you’re wondering how in the world a electronics convention could have any impact on what you have going on in your life today, you’re sadly missing the boat. The announcements, premieres and unveilings happening over the next two days might just be the products meant to make your life unbelievably easier and impact your 2013 more than you know.

1. samsung, Samsung, SAMSUNG!
Among the companies present at CES, Samsung will be one of the most influential. The company has evolved from challenger to champion in recent years, displacing Sony as the world’s largest manufacturer of high-end TVs. Not only has Samsung produced amazing televisions, home electronics and smartphones throughout the years now with their sights set on tablets and cameras – this company is sure to set the standard for innovation during CES 2013.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: This is the year where consumer electronics meets customized streaming content and word on the block is that Samsung has already begun making waves into the next level of content creation with the mSpot streaming services.

2. Connected Convenience
This year, if it’s not ready to go out of the box, it’s not truly effortlessly connected and therefore could no way become a leader in the world of connected convenience. That’s what it’s all about this year at CES and you’ll undoubtedly see and hear more and more about Bluetooth this and WiFi that. With over 61% of households having WiFi, manufacturers are banking on making products that are easily parable and that makes the most of this new wireless lifestyle.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: Have you sat in a newer model Chevy, Cadillac or Acura lately? Not only are households becoming well connected but cars are too. We’re headed into a wireless world, whether you like it or not and if you want to transition with the latest in consumer electronics, you better learn how to pair that smartphone with your refridgerator, your mp3 player to your car and that tablet to your tv.

3. iEverything
Even during its’ absence from CES – Apple still manages to dominate with this year’s iLounge Pavilion. The iLounge Pavilion features the latest and greatest third-party accessories and software for Apple’s iPod®, iPhone® and iPad®. From electronic plug-ins to fashionable cases, speakers, headphones and exciting new games and applications, you’ll be amazed by the opportunities created by their great designs and features. More than 500 companies that make peripheral technologies for Apple devices have signed up to show their wares at CES.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: Apple is constantly evolving it’s products, from mp3 players, to smartphones and now with rumors of a new revolutionary television device – you’ll definitely need to be aware of all the gadgets, accessories that could make for easy living with your new tv in the future.
4. Windows 8
First off, Microsoft isn’t officially at the show this year – but you can expect more Windows 8 tablets, laptops, and tablet / laptop hybrids boasting the new operating system in it’s physical absence. While many of the major companies — Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung, etc. — released Windows 8 tablets and computers before the holidays, you might be surprised at what some were holding back. We’re also holding out for some interesting tablet concepts from Intel, Nvidia and others.
Why It Will Impact Your Year: As supercharged laptop computers evolve, each company is not only attempting to convince you that their product is similar, but they’re also becoming competitively priced to aggressively battle it out for that consumer dollar. (It’s a great time to be in the market for a laptop or desktop computers.)

Study Suggests Consumers Are No Longer Drinking The Apple Kool Aid….
November 5th, 2012 by Christen
As a former Apple “fan-girl” – I must admit, it took me some time to realize that something in the Apple Kool Aid wasn’t all natural. Maybe it began with the idea that releasing a slightly updated version of the iPhone or iPad every several months wasn’t right or maybe it was the notion of feeling tricked when Apple tried to convince me that the iPhone 5 was really something new. Since being released after the Samsung SIII – it didn’t take a genius to realize that something in the brand loyalty kool aid was going bad. Diving into what others believe was Apple’s “nail in the coffin” – Apple maps – further proves researchers latest findings. In what some could consider an eye-opening sign of the times, recent studies by Strategy Analytics suggest that Apple users are no longer as interested in sticking with the brand’s products in the future.
The survey found 88% of current iPhone owners in the U.S. were likely to buy another Apple smartphone. But just last year the study reported 93% of customers willing to purchase a subsequent Apple product.
The decline in Apple loyalty can also be seen globally. The study found 75% of Western European users were likely to purchase another Apple handset, down from 88% in 2011.
Apple says there is a market for new customers, but negative press has led to the decrease in “customer interest” for future products.
Recent reviews of the iPhone 5 claimed customers were unhappy with the lack of innovation to the hardware since the release of the iPhone 4s.
“It is the shift in the number of those who are unsure whether they will remain with the same brand for their next phone that Apple should be concerned about,” Taryn Tulay, an analyst at Strategy Analytics.
Do you consider yourself brand loyal to technology? Are you still drinking the Apple Kool Aid or have you moved onto another brand beverage of choice?
Mobile Internet Schools – Solar Powered By Samsung
November 2nd, 2012 by Tech StaffIf we didn’t have another reason to be excited about Samsung for it’s amazing products, how about the fact that they’re doing something great for communities all across the world… particularly Africa.
Samsung’s Solar-Powered Internet Schools Initiative brings mobile classrooms filled with gadgets to rural towns like Phomolong, home to about 5,000 to 10,000 people. By outfitting a mobile shipping container with desks, a 50-inch electronic board, Internet-enabled solar-powered notebooks, Samsung Galaxy tablet computers and Wi-Fi cameras, children can receive a technology-rich education without traveling far.
“I have this motivation in me. It’s this need to just grow up and become something better in life and help others to become a success so that in South Africa, or in the whole continent of Africa, we can have a better life,” a Phomolong Secondary School student named Lefa told us in a video by the Samsung Corporate Social Responsibility team.
For her, the computer lab presents an opportunity to “learn all the things” she’s ever wanted to learn. (read more)
(Numbers Don’t Lie) Samsung Galaxy Note II Sells 3 Million Units In 30 Days
November 2nd, 2012 by Christen
It’s official! Today, Samsung has announced that it had sold 3 million units of the Galaxy Note 2 after just 30 days – that’s three times faster than its predecessor. The original Galaxy Note was deemed a success, but took 90 days to hit the same 3 million mark. The Galaxy Note 2, at this point, is scheduled to surpass the original Galaxy Note in sales with the holiday shopping season about to hit full throttle and with launches on AT&T and Verizon, the United States’ two largest carriers, by mid-November. Last week, Samsung kicked off a huge celebration in NYC featuring Kanye West for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung camera and this week they’re celebrating great momentum gearing up for the holiday season.
DID YOU KNOW: Samsung topped the global smartphone market in the July-September third quarter with 56.3 million sales, more than double Apple’s 26.9 million iPhone sales. The two companies controlled combined 46 percent of the global smartphone market.
AT&T’s Galaxy Note 2 has been up for pre-order since October 25th with a release date scheduled for November 9th. Verizon’s Galaxy Note 2 has been up for pre-order since then as well though its release date remains unclear. (C’mon Verizon – I need that Galaxy Note II, like yesterday…)
Samsung Galaxy Note II Launch With Kanye West ROCKS NYC
October 25th, 2012 by Christen
No, it’s not Halloween….yet. However, if you’re notice droves of tech geeks, gadget girls and mobile execs lurking at a slower than normal and zombie-esque pace this morning, chances are that they rocked out with the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Kanye West the night before at Skylight at Moynihan Station in New York City, NY.
In celebration of “The Next Big Thing” Samsung Mobile enlisted the help of Kanye West to kick off the biggest mobile rave I’ve ever attended IN MY LIFE! Starting out early in the evening with the press preview, Kevin Packingham, chief product officer for Samsung Mobile U.S. revealed not only the expected Samsung Galaxy Note II – but also the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Camera (by AT&T). After revealing the performance specs that consumers could expect, guests were released into a themepark of Samsung Galaxy Note II experiences. There were a variety of experience to please everyone, including T-Shirt design station where guests could design, print & wear their very own t-shirt using the Galaxy Note II. Check out a the launch event in its’ entirety below…
Kanye West Is Set To Perform At NYC Samsung Note II Event
October 23rd, 2012 by Christen
While you’re waiting for the next big tech innovation, Samsung simply reminds you that “The next big thing is here” with a little performance by hip hop superstar Kanye West. As part of the Galaxy Note World Tour NYC, Samsung Mobile will properly announce the new Galaxy Note II (which if anything like the first Galaxy Note – we’re already in love with it). Followed by a “real world” interactive hands-on experience, giving users/media a chance to use the device and get a feel for all the bells and whistles. And at the end of the night, the celebration begins with a mini concert by G.O.O.D Music’s own – Kanye West.
The Galaxy Note II will be the first Samsung handset to launch running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The 5.5-inch phone has an HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, Samsung’s Exynos™ 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage that is expandable to 64GB with an optional microSD card. The phone will be available on five major carriers -– Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. Samsung Galaxy Note II will be available by the holidays, arriving in stores by mid-November.
Amidst the most recent Kanye-Kim K engagement rumors from their recent trip in Rome, it’s quite possible that Kim K would be making an appearance as well at Samsung’s event tomorrow evening, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
