Everpurse Wirelessly & Fashionably Charges Your Smartphone

September 14th, 2012 by Tech Staff

Everpurse - A new Kickstarter project aims to take frustration out of the equation for female iPhone users thanks to a series of stylish wristlet and clutch purses with built-in wireless power. Called the Everpurse, its internal 2500 milliamp battery will keep you going all day and throughout the night, whether you have an iPhone 4, 4S or the latest 5 model. (Note: The company plans to develop an Android-compatible Everpurse, as well).

The device starts charging when you place it into one of the purse’s pockets. Everpurse owners will have to eventually charge its battery pack with an AC adapter, which is typical for most charging packs.

“You shouldn’t have to decide between fashion and function,” the company says on its Kickstarter page. “You can leave home early in the morning, go through a full day of work (Facebooking, Instagramming, games, calls and web surfing) and still have hours and hours left of battery when you go out to dinner or party into the early morning.”

Although the project launched earlier this week, it has already accumulated more than $60,000 from backers. But it’s still about $40,000 shy of its target goal. All orders — which start at $99 for fabric and $129 for leather — come with a charging mat.

Now the REAL question is… which fashion designer would opt for the Everpurse technology first?  Will it be tech-forward brands like Rebecca Minkoff, Michael Kors or Vivienne Tam?

You Can Fake A Lot Of Things, But You Can’t Fake Fashion (Or Can You?)

March 20th, 2012 by Fashion Staff

If you didn’t notice under the tents in February eBay and the CFDA came together during New York Fashion Week with a campaign against counterfeit fashion.  Following last year’s sold-out summer collection, eBay and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) introduced a new collection of original totes to raise awareness against counterfeit goods and celebrate original design. The collection includes more than 75 one-of-a-kind totes each customized by CFDA designers ($200), as well as four styles of standard totes ($45) — available exclusively on eBay. All proceeds benefit the CFDA Foundation.

Here are a few of our favorite customized bags (ALREADY SOLD OUT) but no worries, you can still pick up the standard totes (they’re plenty still available on eBay) Or you can spend the same on a counterfit bag still available on eBay as well. SMH

Hear more from the designers and see the one-of-a-kind bags below…

Five Must Haves For Every Professional Diva’s Bag

March 6th, 2012 by Christen

Recently, Black Enterprise Magazine listed 7 must haves for every professional woman’s bag. We admit there were a few items on the list that prompted us to look at what’s inside our bags.  Sometimes, you can’t fit everything including the kitchen sink in your bag – so we’ve condensed our list down to the top five must haves.  As a former Girl Scout – one thing you remember is that “A Girl Scout Is Always Prepared…” and growing from a Girl Scout to a Diva we’ve compiled our top list of Five Must Haves For Every Professional Diva’s Bag below.  Find out which items you need in your bag today and how easy you can get them in a click…

1.  External Battery or Charger

How many times have you been in and out of meetings, on the phone on conference calls and before you knew it your phone was operating on less than 5% of battery power without a power outlet in sight?  Say goodbye to strategic use of your smartphone or tablet for fear of recharging with the MyCharge Powerbank 6000.  This external battery can charge multiple devices at the same time and harnessing enough power to charge your device time and time again in a single use – this is a must have for any diva on the go!

2.  A haute color lipstick

Have you ever gone for happy hour after work and it turned into an all night affair?  Take your office look from day to night with a pop of fierce color!  A haute lipstick can transform a subtle look in an instant and vamp up any diva for a night on the town. My favorite vamp life color? There’s only one color that truly releases the DIVA within… Mac Ruby Woo of course!

3.  A small bottled water / Granola bar

For those not so subtle moments of starvation.  There’s nothing better than a grumbling stomach introduction during your big presentation or the agony of no energy during that 3pm – 5pm stretch of work.  Eliminate all the above without packing an entire grocery store in your bag with a small 8 oz bottle of water and a fruit & nut granola bar.

4. Swiss Army Knife

Let’s face it MacGyver doesn’t have to have all the fun when it comes to navigating through the daily pitfalls of life.  As women, we have to solve it all – from broken heels to missing buttons (and even that non-forgiving office drawer that always finds itself jammed when you need access most.) This Miss A Kit includes a pocket knife, flashlight, keychain, needle and thread, safety pin, corkscrew, mirror, pen, tweezers, perfume bottle, scredriver, scissors, ruler, nail file, pill box and more!

5. Make Up remover wipes

Okay, I’m sure you’re thinking why Makeup remover wipes?  Well, more versatile than regular kleenex and wet wipes combined keeping makeup remover wipes is an effective way to prepare for major and minor cleenups all day long.  Spilled coffee on your skirt? The cleansing power inside of wipes like Neutrogena makeup remover towelettes has enough power to gently dissolve traces of dirt, oil and more in a matter of seconds.

So what’s in your bag?  Are there any items on this list that you need on your shopping list?  Any items that you think we’ve missed?  Sound off below…

Purging the purse with Case Mate!

February 7th, 2012 by Christen

In an attempt to simplify my life, I figured I’d start first by simplifying my bag. (Which makes sense considering the fact that the majority of my life’s contents were totted around for the last three months in a 8lbs hobo bag.)

You could imagine my excitement, when Case Mate delivered one of their fashionable Kayla clutch crossbody designs to my front door. When it comes to downsizing, this clutch is the sheer definition of the word. Measuring at just under 5 inches long and 3 inches wide this fashionable clutch offers the convenience of mobility with with the option of fashionable colorblock style.

Designed to wear on the wrist or cross body with the detachable metallic chain, it’s as versatile as you want it to be. An outer pouch with a magnetic closure secures your device, and makes it easily accessible in a flash. The zip-around compartment fits the essentials for a night out, including credit card slots, ID holder and coin pouch. I was able to fit three credit cards, my ID, metrocard, a set of keys and my favorite lipgloss within the clutch. (Sidenote: The zipper is pretty strong too! I managed to over stuff the clutch without the worry of over extending the zipper.)

Although the universal Kayla Clutch Combo fits most devices, including all iPhones, BlackBerrys, HTC phones and other popular devices, I found it a bit tight-fitting to squeeze my iPhone 4s inside the slot while encased in a phone case of its own. (Sidenote: A naked phone slips in and out of the Kayla Clutch phone pocket a lot easier, for quicker access.)

I loved the thick cross body chain, it fit easily across my body (relieving my shoulders) and when positioned in front I always had immediate access to my phone & clutch contents with ease.

I loved the thick cross body chain, it fit easily across my body (relieving my shoulders) and felt light as a feather!

With a variety of colorblock colors and prices starting at $50, you may want to invest in more than one Kayla clutch to mix and match within your entire wardrobe…it’s worth it! Available at Case-Mate.com.

My Favorite Things…

February 24th, 2011 by Christen

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

A couple of months ago, I saw “The Sound of Music”  for the first time and clearly “My Favorite Things” resonated with me beyond measure…LOL.

It’s super close to my birthday and after a rough night (last night) I figured I’d think of good, lovely and happy things…LIKE BIRTHDAY PRESENTS!   Soooo, to start off my list of my favorite things (aka Birthday Wish List) we’ll head over to an fashion staple.

1.  Louis Vuitton Speedy (40) – Monogramed of course!

I’ve never wanted a Louis Vuitton bag…maybe because I’ve seen so many people with Canal Street Specials knock-offs that I never wanted to be thought of as having one.

But to quote one of my favorite hip-hop artists, Lupe Fiasco – “Real recognize Real” and any REAL fashionista knows a real Louie when she sees one.  (And just in case you don’t know what to look out for – I’ll let you know below.)  But back to the subject, after awhile a woman just wants classic simplicity and this Louis Vuitton Speedy definitely delivers.

Like Oprah, I’ll share a few of my favorite things here and there until my birthday (March 4), but hat does not mean I’ll giving them away…LOL.
