Standing in her 19-by-26-foot closet, she had tons of help from her bestie Gayle King and her creative director, Adam Glassman came to supervise. Fashion editor Jenny Capitain and stylist Kelly Hurliman were on hand to organize the pieces Oprah wants to keep and the pieces she’s letting go of.

“You know, Adam [Glassman was] the one who made me realize I was holding on to clothes that were all about a dream I had for myself, said Oprah. “I chose them for this idea I’d gotten into my head of how someone like me was supposed to live, but they had nothing to do with my actual life. And that changed me!”

Lady O pulled out this bright coral blazer and said, “I just don’t need all this intense color, the embellishment, the heels anymore. When you’re in front of TV cameras every day, you have to stand out, but I’m in a different place now, and those things no longer serve me.”

Oprah’s Next Chapter With Kerry Washington & Shonda Rhimes

December 10th, 2012 by Lifestyle Staff

Kerry Washington, exquisite as Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal, has brought fierceness and fashion back to prime time. “Washington made history as the first African American woman to play the lead in a prime time drama in 38 years. Her character has been criticized by some, but many laud Pope’s sense of independence, poise, professional success and even her vulnerability.” Find out you too can exert these same characteristics as prime time’s favorite Olivia Pope through your fashion and home decor.

Over the past four decades, cable has seen Jada Pinkett Smith as HawthoRNe (TNT) and Jill Scott on The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (HBO), but not since Diahann Carroll as Julia, a widowed nurse and single mother, has there been a well known leading Black actress on network TV. The onscreen power and success of both Pinkett-Smith and Scott, two bold, outspoken and extremely talented actresses paved the way for another prime time series featuring a leading Black actress. Each show brought in 3-4 million viewers on average, clearly there was an audience waiting to be tapped into.

Speed to Oprah’s Next Chapter aired on Sunday, December 9, 2012: Enter Shonda Rhimes, network TV’s most successful African-American writer and producer with Washington and Judy Smith, DC’s infamous political fixer for inspiration. Three of the most powerful women in television. Each with an individual, yet similar look of power, professionalism, and femininity.

Millions tune in weekly to follow the intense pace, political chess games, tormented love triangle, and to peep Pope’s style. Operating within a male-dominated political landscape, Lyn Paolo (Scandal costume designer) dresses Washington in soft silhouettes using “whites, pinks, peaches, and creams” to exude professionalism, femininity, power and leadership. As a political fixer, Pope often gives hard nosed advice under difficult circumstances; it’s important that others immediately feel comfortable and safe with her—soft, warm colors help make that happen.

Viewers also love Pope’s home décor. Bedding from West Elm and delicate, long-stemmed wine glasses from Crate and Barrel pop off the screen in her home. Your bedroom can add to or take away from the femininity and power you display daily.

As the second season came to an end, Gladiators—nickname for staff at Olivia Pope & Associates and for fans of the show—have many questions left to ponder:

  • Why, Huck? Was Huck the actual shooter?
  • Who’s behind it all? Mellie? Hollis? Sally?
  • Will President Grant survive?
  • How will Olivia and OPA be implicated?
  • What will happen to the love triangle now?
  • Can Olivia fix this?

Amid the steamy love scenes, high-powered career moves, and glamorous Diva style, the only other woman to rival Pope in running for best year ever is none other than Beyonce herself.  In case you missed last night’s Next Chapter episode, check out the best moments below…

Could The Microsoft Surface Be On Oprah’s ‘Favorite Things’ List This Year?

November 2nd, 2012 by Tech Staff

Amidst a nasty rumor that Apple declined to gift Oprah Winfery’s audience iPads during one of her last appearances years ago on The Oprah Winfrey show.  A new tablet has made it’s way to the famed “Oprah’s Favorite Things” gift guide this year – the Microsoft Surface.

“It feels like a Mercedes-Benz to me, people!” gushes Oprah in the December issue of O, on newsstands Nov. 6. Her “Favorite Things 2012? list was released online Thursday.

“The full-size keyboard built right into the cover makes work easy, the very smart kickstand makes watching a movie or Skyping a friend a delight, the less than a pound-and-a-half weight makes a great alternative to a laptop,” she adds.

This is a HUGE endorsement for the Microsoft brand, and it’s sure to affect upcoming holiday sales for the Surface.  Are you interested in the Surface now that it’s made Oprah’s “Favorite Things” list?

What Has Oprah, Jay-Z and 50 Cent Running To Facebook?

May 3rd, 2012 by Tech Staff

As once rivals,  Jay-Z and 50 Cent have battled it out on the charts but now the two Hip Hop moguls turned businessmen have found a new way to define “What’s Beef?” online found with the help of Facebook’s gaming platform.

50 Cent’s Blackjack with Game Show Network (GSN) is a virtual casino, where Facebook users can challenge their friends or play the games dealer.  “I am excited to partner with GSN Digital on this venture to create an unparalleled social gaming experience for my fans,” 50 Cent explained to Hip-Hop Wired. “50 Cent’s Blackjack is filled with fun twists and innovative features that is sure to provide hours of entertainment.”

On the other hand, Jay-Z’s Empire will take more of a Sims-like approach where Facebook users can quite literally create their own empires as they work their way from “hustler, to entrepreneur, to business mogul.”

It’s a long way from the famous Jay-Z / Oprah interview in the heart of Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects – but even Oprah has gotten her hand into Facebook gaming creating a lane all her own.    Oprah Winfrey Network and Oprah.com announced this week the launch of “Oprah’s Thank You Game” on Facebook facebook.com/owntv to spread gratitude around the world in an effort to thank half a billion people worldwide. The game launched in conjunction with the season finale of “Oprah’s Lifeclass: the Tour” (Monday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT) where Oprah discussed mastering the art of gratitude.

Would you play any of these games on Facebook being brought to you by these heavy hitters in entertainment?

D&D Wish List: HD Flip Cam

November 23rd, 2010 by Christen

Everyone from Beyonce to Paris Hilton owns a Flip Cam and it’s the “GO TO” gadget for this holiday season…

Video cameras started off as huge pieces of equipment that two or three people need to carry and now time has matured enough and so has technology to constrain the features in a camera to a miniature camcorder that can be stored in your pocket. The Flip camera is a camera that has all features that professional camcorders have and is the size of a palm and less than 94 Grams in weight. The slick and user appealing design of the camcorder beckons for a valuable owner like you.

There are many other features such as a USB plug at the bottom end of the device and an option to attach a tripod to the camcorder for your still camera needs and to avoid jerky video recordings.

If you are really interested in video recording and capturing stunning events in your life with little or no experience in videos, then the right option for a newbie will be to buy yourself a camcorder! Enhance the quality of your life by recording moments that you can cherish forever.
