So What Is Twitter Music?

Twitter Music - Divas and Dorks - Technology Logo As some of you might have heard, Twitter launched Twitter Music last week. I have to admit when I first heard of Twitter music I thought, “Okay, how is this going to work?”  A Twitter music app?  But, I forgot – social media is about engagement, which is Twitter’s main priority for its users.  We like to follow celebrities on Twitter and the people at Twitter know this.  This is what Twitter refers to as their follow graph. They are taking it to the next level The company posted on its blog “Many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter are musicians, and half of all users follow at least one musician.”  They also found that people tweet about music too.  So how does Twitter market this information?

Twitter Music - Divas and Dorks - Technology - Twitter Page Twitter Music will show you what new artists have joined Twitter and what they are up to, what other Twitter users are listening to, and give you music suggestions based on your activity.  So it's more a music discovery app as opposed to a music player. You can play music directly in the app with a Spotify or Rdio account.  You can't search for specific tracks or albums and play them (which is probably why it won't replace your main music player app). With this plan, more music artists will be more inclined to use Twitter to promote their music, engage their fan base, and have their followers tweet and retweet their tracks to millions of people.

Twitter Music - Divas and Dorks - Technology - smartphone -       It plays only 30 seconds of an iTunes track -       You must follow an artist on Twitter to get personalized music suggestions -       The app only allows individual tracks not an entire album.  If you want to buy an entire digital album you must exit the app and go to your music service app like iTunes.       So if you're a Twitter addict, and you're interested in what's popular across the network, Twitter music is definitely for you. Have you tried it yet? Do you care about the music trending on Twitter when you can get that anywhere else (Top 40 Lists)? Get Twitter Music at
