Alicia Keys Wants You To Star In Your Own Music Video With Blackberry

February 26th, 2013 by Christen

Blackberry’s newest Creative Director, Alicia Keys wants her fans to star in her next concert video.  In her first move as the company’s global creative director, Keys is asking fans to submit photos of themselves that will be included in music videos, which she’ll play as part of her upcoming tour.

Alicia Keys Blackberry Allstar

Alicia Keys is inviting fans to submit photos of themselves via BlackBerry’s Keep Moving hub. She’ll take those photos to create music videos that she’ll play when she sings her song “Hallelujah” during concerts in her “Set the World on Fire” tour, which starts on March 7. Every city on the tour will have its own unique video.   This isn’t the first time Keys has crowdsourced a video. Last year she created a video for her song “New Day” from fan-submitted Instagram photos.

The site also has a new video from Keys where she describes her feelings on the project. You can view it below.

Instagram is an iOS and Android app, and it’s not available on BlackBerry, so there’s no mention of it in the announcement. However, fans don’t need to have a BlackBerry device to participate in the contest — they can use any camera to shoot their pics. The only requirement is to submit the photos through the Keep Moving site.  (Hmmm, the app isn’t available on Blackberry – yet it’s a Blackberry led promotion….I wonder if Alicia’s still using her iPhone?)

Do you plan on checking out the “Set the World on Fire” tour next month?  What about the Blackberry Z10, has the excitement fizzled out?

What Does Your Social Media Personality Say About You?

February 6th, 2013 by Christen

If you’re on popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, you can probably group friends into categories based on their online behavior. There’s the vaguebooker (also known as the “sub-tweeter”). The humblebragger. The guy that won’t stop talking about politics. And the one who spoils every good scene on your favorite TV show (also known as the “spoiler”.)  So what does your social media personality say about you?

This social behavior study by MyLife, was conducted among 890 adults ages 18 and older and there’s a good chance you fit into one of these personas. In fact, if you’re a young parent, there’s a 88% chance you are posting pictures of your kids or talking about parenting at least once a month. Not to mention 25% of users are “vaguebooking” by posting intentionally vague updates which encourage people to react and inquire for more details.  (Still interested to see what your social media personality says about you?  Read more below…)

The infographic also has some interesting findings about searching behaviors on social media sites too. In fact, nearly 25% of men under the age of 35 admit to looking at a former girlfriend’s social media profile page once a month. Women do this less often (20%).   What’s your social networking persona?  Discover the truth within the infographic below…

Finally! Apple Confirms Products Coming To T-Mobile In 2013

December 6th, 2012 by Christen

If you’re one of the few T-Mobile customers holding their breath for an iDevice…you can finally breath a sigh of relief.

Apple has confirmed news that T-Mobile will be carrying the company’s products in 2013.

The news came as part of a press release by T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom this morning. Apple representative, Natalie Harrison confirmed it earlier today.

In the coming year, T-Mobile USA will continue to reinforce its market presence with additions to its rate plan and product portfolio, including Apple products. “Following on from the preceding steps such as the spectrum swap with Verizon, the towers deal with Crown Castle and the transaction with MetroPCS that we have announced, we have now added the final piece to the jigsaw to boost the competitiveness of T-Mobile USA sustainably,” said René Obermann.

T-Mobile representative Michelle Taylerson reiterated that the company would bring Apple products to the carrier in 2013. “Additional details will be made available at a later date,” she said.

There was no mention of which Apple products T-Mobile would carry, but you’ll probably see the iPad and quite possibly the iPhone 6 make it’s debut next year…(don’t act like you’re not expecting it…LOL)

What do you think?  Are you a T-Mobile user waiting on Apple to make the switch?

Google Cancels Event But Announces Nexus: The best of Google, Now in Three Sizes!

October 29th, 2012 by Christen

Google Nexus, now available in small, medium and large!

Although it was postponed, and reported that it would be rescheduled – just moments ago, Google announced that they have decided against rescheduling their launch event today due to Hurricane Sandy and have posted the details that would’ve been shared via their blog instead.

Google has just announced three new Nexus devices … in small, medium and large. And they all run Android 4.2, a new flavor of Jelly Bean—which includes the latest version of Google Now and other great new features.  A Nexus device is much more than simply a phone or tablet. It’s being marketing as your connection to the best of Google—all of your stuff and entertainment, everywhere you go with no hassle.  Now you have three new Nexus devices, a new improved version of Jelly Bean and more entertainment than ever before—all available in Google Play. The playground is open.

(SMALL)  Nexus 4 with Google Now and Photo Sphere

Nexus 4

Nexus 4 is the latest smartphone, developed together with LG. It has a quad-core processor which means it’s super fast, a crisp 4.7″ (320 ppi) display that’s perfect for looking at photos and watching YouTube, and with wireless charging you just set the phone down on a charging surface to power it up, no wires needed. While Nexus 4 is incredibly powerful under the hood, it also features the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2—the simplest and smartest version of Android yet. Starting with the camera, it’s reinvented the photo experience with Photo Sphere, which lets you capture images that are literally larger than life. Snap shots up, down and in every direction to create stunning 360-degree immersive experiences that you can share on Google+ with friends and family—or you can add your Photo Sphere to Google Maps for the world to see.

Android 4.2 brings other great goodies like Gesture Typing, which lets you glide your finger over the letters you want to type on the keyboard—it makes typing fast, fun and a whole lot simpler. Android 4.2 also adds support for wireless display so you can wirelessly watch movies, YouTube videos and play games right on your Miracast-compatible HDTV.

  •  Nexus 4: 8GB for $299; 16GB for $349; available unlocked and without a contract on 11/13 on the Google Play store in U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Canada. The 16GB version will also be available through T-Mobile for $199, with a 2-year contract (check here for more details).

(MEDIUM)  Nexus 7: Thin, light and now even more portable

Nexus 7

Nexus 7 brings you the best of Google–YouTube, Chrome, Gmail, Maps–and all the great content from Google Play in a slim, portable package that fits perfectly in your hand. To give you more room for all that great content you can now get Nexus 7 with 16GB ($199) or 32GB ($249) of storage. But Google also wanted to make this highly portable tablet even more mobile. So they’ve added HSPA+ mobile data. Nexus 7 is now also available with 32GB and HSPA+ mobile ($299), which can operate on more than 200 GSM providers worldwide, including AT&T in the US.

  • Nexus 7: 16GB for $199 and 32GB for $249; available in U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan, and also through our retail partners Gamestop, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Walmart.

(LARGE)  Nexus 10: Powerful and shareable

Nexus 10

Nexus 10 is the ultimate tablet for watching movies or reading magazines. Google partnered with Samsung to create the Nexus 10. Nexus 10 is the highest resolution tablet on the planet at 2560-by-1600 (300ppi), that’s over 4 million pixels right in your hands. It comes with a powerful battery that will get you up to nine hours of video playback and more than 500 hours of standby time. With a set of front-facing stereo speakers, you can watch movies right from your Nexus 10 and they simply sound awesome. But what makes Nexus 10 unique is that it’s the first truly shareable tablet. With Android 4.2, you can add multiple users and switch between them instantly right from the lockscreen.

  •  Nexus 10: 16GB for $399; 32GB for $499; available on 11/13 in the Google Play Store in U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan.

Google Now—even more useful
We designed Google Now to make life simpler by giving you the right information at just the right time in easy to read cards, before you even ask. And the feedback has been awesome. So today we’re adding more cards that we hope you’ll find useful. Flight information, restaurant reservations, hotel confirmations and shipping details—how often have you found yourself wading through your email to get this information at the last moment? So next time you book a table for dinner, you’ll get a reminder with all the details without ever having to lift a finger. You’ll also get cards for nearby attractions, interesting photo spots, movies times at nearby theaters or concerts by your favorite artists.

Google Play: More entertainment, more countries
New additions to the entertainment hub, Google Play, has been announced too.  Additions such as movies and TV shows from Twentieth Century Fox. Earlier this year Google expanded service beyond movie rentals and now you can purchase movies and build a library of your favorites in Google Play. Today they’re bringing movie purchasing to more countries – Canada, the U.K., France, Spain and Australia. Google is also now working with Time, Inc. to bring you even more magazines like InStyle, PEOPLETIME and others. And they’ve also partnered with Warner Music Group who will be adding their full music catalog with new songs coming each day. Soon, they’ll be working with all of the major record labels globally, and all the major U.S. magazine publishers, as well as many independent labels, artists and publishers bringing the ultimate in entertainment right to your fingertips.

Now You Can Stream Over 30 Million Songs With XBox Music Live

October 15th, 2012 by Christen

Your Microsoft XBox is becoming more of a complete entertainment console that your originally thought.  Long gone are the days of your Xbox just being a gaming system.  Now it’s a complete entertainment system for every member of the family!  Xbox Music will launch later this month with hopes of making a dent in the digital music industry.

Microsoft will roll out the new music streaming service to many customers on Tuesday as part of an update to the Xbox gaming console, and then the company will release it as a built-in feature on Windows 8 PCs and tablets starting on Oct. 26.

Xbox Live was first announced at an event in June of this year. The service will let users stream more than 30 million tracks worldwide across Microsoft’s ecosystem of Windows 8 mobile devices and PCs, as well as the Xbox. Think of it as Microsoft’s in-house version of Spotify.

Customers will have the option to stream music for free (with ads) or else pay $9.99 a month for an unlimited streaming subscription. Microsoft will also let customers purchase songs through Xbox Music for $0.99, which will operate similarly to Apple’s and Amazon’s music stores. What’s more, Microsoft plans to roll out a feature that will let users scan and match tracks they already have in their music collections and make these available for streaming from the cloud, just like with iTunes Match.

For Microsoft, Xbox Music represents a kind of do-over in the music market. The service will replace the Zune Marketplace, Microsoft’s online store for music and other entertainment offerings. Microsoft discontinued the Zune last year after the music player failed to compete against the iPod.

With Xbox Music, Microsoft appears to be acknowledging just how important it is to have a viable music service for mobile devices — like the soon-to-launch Surface tablet – in order to compete against similar offerings from Amazon and Apple.

If you currently own an Xbox, would you consider subscribing to Xbox Music unlimited subscription?  Depending on your sounds system, it could eliminate ever having to buy another CD or MP3 again… What do you think? Sound off below…
