Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Star Lounge: Beyond the Velvet Rope
February 21st, 2012 by ChristenThere was something about this season at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that was calming and much less chaotic than seasons past. Could it be the fact that I stuck to my strict show schedule, or that I spent my time wisely hopping from presentations to shows? Honestly, No.
As an invited guest of Mercedes Benz I was asked to participate and enjoy the fashionable & luxurious Mercedes Benz Star Lounge. The known respite for VIP and influencers in between shows, the suite has been the haven for silver screen celebs to Super Bowl winning NY Giants. When it comes down to VIP treatment (although I lack celebrity status), I was not exempt. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating – which is a welcomed change from the chaos that is Lincoln Center. From personal assistance from MBFW staff escorting me inside of the most anticipated shows to the delightful aroma of snacks, meals & beverages (including champagne) that greeted me upon entrance beyond the velvet rope, the overall experience was nothing short of AMAZING!
Designed by interior designer, Wesley Cadie – the visually stunning wall coverings and textiles by Porter Teleo and artwork by Stephanie Hirsch truly made this chic oasis my ‘home away from home’ (home being the MBFW Media Center). The approach that Mercedes Benz offered something that is hard to come by when visiting Lincoln Center: stylish serenity within a welcoming and warm environment. The ambiance of the star lounge encouraged a calm, peaceful energy that carried me throughout my entire New York Fashion Week experience and beyond.
Thank you Mercedes Benz!

NYFW – The Groovy Musings of Nicole Miller Fall 2012
February 20th, 2012 by ChristenUpon the first strut of the model down the runway, you begin to experience a collection that keeps you guessing. Is it the suede, patchwork leather or bell-bottoms that gives off the aura of the groovy 60′s? Or could it be an ode to the recessionista’s way of shopping – the ever clever thrifter? Either way, the Nicole Miller Fall 2012 collection brought a variety of styles, colors, textures and more into the forefront in this eclectic collection. Check out the rest of the Nicole Miller collection and give us your take – Is the collection a rip-off of the 60′s or a brave homage to the recent 90′s?

NYFW – Tracy Reese Fall 2012: The Flirty & Fabulous Side Of Fall Fashion
February 17th, 2012 by ChristenOnce in a while, a collection hits the runway of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that makes you wish to fast-forward time and seasons. The Fall 2012 runway show by Tracy Reese was undoubtedly that collection for me.
Designer (and fellow FAB Cass Tech Alumni) – Tracy Reese.
One resounding similarity of each piece in the collection made me believe in the flirty, happiness that fall fashion brings. Usually, the change in seasons brings a melancholy feel and desire to extend summertime weather and fun – well into the autumn months. This collection however, showcases pops of print and colors that bubbles up the anticipation for seasonal & fashionable change. The confident, bold shades of orange and bright greens paired with embellished tops and form-fitting silhouettes will definitely be a hit for the bold, fierce fashionistas that’s unafraid of standing out in a room, on a runway or beyond.
NYFW D&D Style Featured On FashionBombDaily.com
February 16th, 2012 by ChristenIf you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m not a complicated girl. I love jeans, t-shirts and overall comfort (first & foremost). With New York Fashion Week in my rear view, I’m reminded how I came into my NYFW fashion ideas with the thought of comfort in mind. Luckily, fashion and comfort can coexist under the tents at Lincoln Center.
Last week, as I rushed out of Lincoln Center to my next show, I was approached by FashionBombDaily.com photographers to be featured on the site for “Real Style”. (I had no ideas if I was going to be featured as a fashion HIT or MISS, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I found.) Check it out and let me know what you think!

Iman to Host First-Ever “Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show” During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
February 15th, 2012 by Christen
On Thursday, February 16 at 3pm, the first-ever Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show, will premiere as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, hosted by mom and model Iman, with a collection of designers who are realistic for today’s moms.
“As a mother of two and a fashion industry veteran, I am thrilled to host Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show at Lincoln Center this season,” said Iman. “Balancing my family and business lives has always been a priority for me, and I am proud to support other women striving to do the same.”
Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The Moms, a multiplatform lifestyle brand, were looking to showcase everyday fashion for moms with different styles, different jobs and different lives.
“Like so many women in the workforce, we altered our paths once we had kids,” said Albert. “One thing that stayed true was our love of fashion.”
“When you are a mom you take all the focus off yourself and channel it towards your children. The creation of our show is to help moms reclaim their sense of style with affordable and transformable looks that are wearable throughout the day,” said Gerstein. ”When you look good, you feel good!”
“With 32 million moms online with $2.4 trillion worth of spending power and 66 percent of those moms Facebook, there’s no doubt that fashion, moms and social media are all converging, which is at the core of the thinking behind Strut,” said MOM-entum’s Holly Pavlika.
Designers and top consumer brands couldn’t agree more. T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, Matrix, and Clorox and are all top sponsors of the event because they recognize and celebrate the power of mom and her love of beauty and fashion.
Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, Vera Wang, Douglas Hannant, Rebecca Minkoff, Gap, Laundry, Michael Kors,David Meister, Ramy Brook, The Children’s Place, Quinny, BCBG, Monica Botkier, Hatch by Twobirds, Pea in the Pod, Coldwater Creek, Bela Bum Bum, and Ingrid & Isabel are also celebrating mom and providing looks available in-store and online to be featured on the runway, worn by real moms who truly embody what it means to be a fashionable mom.

NYFW – Reem Acra Fall 2012: Wham, Glam, Thank You Ma’am.
February 14th, 2012 by ChristenIf you thought you’d get through New York Fashion Week without seeing the glamourous side of Fall fashion, then think again. The glitz and glam that graced the runway in the Reem Acra Fall 2012 runway show was over-the-top Haute Hollywood!
With each gown that graced the runway, you couldn’t help but immediately identify them with haute celebs like Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, or Jennifer Lopez. A mix of sheer, cutouts and variations of sequins definitely positioned the Reem Acra Fall collection as one that stands out and I’m excited to see which Hollywood celebrity will be the first to walk the red carpet in a Reem Acra gown as if it’s their own personal runway. Check out a few of the looks below…

NYFW – RUFFIAN Fall 2012: The Crisp “Tailored” Look Of Fall
February 13th, 2012 by ChristenBringing a refined pizzazz all their own, the designs of Ruffian’s Fall 2012 ready to wear collection exuded wool, plaids in a variety of colors and the tailored look that only a row or two of buttons can bring.
From mid-length jackets to full-length coats, the consistency of button use was apparent throughout this entire collection – bringing us to terms that it’s okay to enjoy a conservative Fall wardrobe later this year. There were one or two pieces that were not consistent with the overall theme of luxurious, tailored looks – but overall the idea of well-tailored “English” looks transpired well and is sure to transcend fashion trend for years to come.
