Attention Gladiators! Have you obsessed over Olivia Pope’s designer attire? But your limited budget has prevented you from shelling out the cash on her amazing looks? It’s handled. There’s now hope for Gladiators to get their favorite casual yet classy looks at affordable prices thanks to The Limited. That’s right. Olivia Pope’s signature style is coming to The Limited.
The ‘Scandal’ look will be hitting the malls this fall as ABC Studios formally unveiled its partnership with The Limited stores for an apparel line inspired by the hit Washington,D.C.-based fixer.
“Scandal” star Kerry Washington and costume designer Lyn Paolo collaborated on designs with Elliot Staples, Limited’s head of design, for a range of items that evoke Olivia Pope’s signature “Gladiator in suit” style. Deal marks an elaborate extension of a hot primetime TV brand in the retail arena.
Prices begin at $49 for the collection of tops, pants, jackets and outerwear (see sketch above). The togs will hit shelves on Sept. 22, coinciding with the fourth season launch of the drama series created by Shonda Rhimes. Are you looking forward to the new Scandal collection from the Limited?
It’s Thursday, and you know what that means? If you missed last week’s season finale of ABC’s hit show SCANDAL and can’t wait to get your fix until next season, I’ve got you covered!
Last week, beauty lovers, bloggers and more joined together to talk everything scandalous about beauty at the #PrettyGlamazonScandal party hosted by Lara of PrettyConnected and Makeda of GlamazonDiaries. During the event we got tips from beauty team behind SCANDAL and our hands on the hottest and coveted beauty products used by our favorite SCANDAL characters on the show.
Let’s face it, Olivia Pope has a power walk, and the girl’s hair needs to be just as powerful.
“I try not to put too much product in her hair, because I love for her hair to move, I like for her hair to bounce, be free and look shiny. I put in Shell Sebastian Cellophane, a conditioning clear coloring that seals it in, protects it from heat, and gives amazing shine.”– Linda Villalobos SCANDAL lead stylist
During the event, Caravan Studio’s hair stylist Valerie Star was on hand to create the famous Olivia Pope flip as well as hair styles seen on Scandal characters, Abby, Mellie and Quinn using the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Marcel Curling Iron.
SCANDAL BEAUTY PRODUCT: For men and women, the Skyn Iceland Eye Gels are so popular, let’s just say we’ve heard that the guys on the show love them so much they can’t live without them. That’s SCANDAL-inspired beauty that you can’t deny.
We also had Dean Fournier, international makeup artist from Lorac used the Pro Palette colors used on the show on party guests to create flawless SCANDAL beauty looks that Olivia Pope would approve. Created by celebrity makeup artist Carol Shaw, this PRO artistry palette is packed with 8 Shimmer and 8 Matte Eye Shadows in all the shades you need to create the hottest looks straight from the Red Carpet. Included with the palette is the Mini Behind The Scenes Eye Primer, making this palette the brands #2 seller. Available at Ulta.com.
SCANDAL BEAUTY PRODUCT: For LORAC palette “it’s the one palette we have that has been used on all the women of the show” – Denise Hooper makeup artist for Scandal
SCANDAL BEAUTY PRODUCT: Kevyn AUCOIN mascara is used on lower lashes to prevent smudging on long shoot days – Denise Hooper makeup artist for Scandal
Discover some of my favorite products found at the #PrettyGlamazonScandal party below – I can’t wait to re-create some of my favorite SCANDAL beauty looks using these products all summer long (especially since Fall can’t come soon enough!)
Gladiator fever is in high and just when you couldn’t get enough of Kerry Washington on the red carpet and movies, Essence Magazine has the golden girl in full glory on it’s November issue. In celebration of Kerry’s return to ABC this Thursday night for Season 3 of “Scandal” she talks about her role as Olivia Pope and why she has more impact on America then we think.
“They are allowing an educated, intelligent, powerful, complicated, human, flawed, multidimensional Black woman into their homes. They’re not walking past her on the street, they’re not trying to avoid engaging her, they’re not ignoring her and pretending she’s somebody else’s family and somebody else’s problem…” – Kerry Washington
Shonda Rhimes, the brilliant creator behind it all, says Washington “is truly dedicated to making Olivia a real person. She adds layers and depth and a soul to Olivia.” No doubt that’s what keeps Washington’s 8.5 million die-hard fans, or Gladiators, coming back for more every Thursday at 10pm. But we wanted to know how similar Kerry Washington and Olivia Pope really are.
In the Essence Magazine feature “Olivia Vs. Kerry,” writer Denene Millner asks the 36-year-old what divides the artist from the muse. Washington says, “Olivia has three [fashion] modes: Work Olivia, Black-Tie Gala Olivia and At Home Olivia… My fashion is more eclectic: There’s Going to Work Kerry, which is gym clothes and Nike kicks. That’s the Bronx girl. There’s also Red Carpet Kerry and Out to Dinner With Friends Kerry.”
On what a Girls’ Night Out for Olivia would be, Washington says “it would involve a lot of wine.” For her, “I drink maybe twice a year. I would be with my three best friends from high school or my girlfriends from the show.”
ESSENCE’s November issue hits newsstands on October 10th.
SCANDAL: Kerry Washington’s As Olivia Pope Returns Early on BET
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been sulking all summer long for lack of earth-shattering programming on television. Just yesterday, I had a Scandal itch that just couldn’t be scratched and the fact that I had to wait until Fall programming began had me feeling as hopeless. Lucky for me and self-proclaimed Gladiators alike – BET has officially gained rights to air ABC’s hit drama Scandal and repeat episodes of the first two seasons will start playing on the network this summer.
Once season three of the political series begins this fall, the network will also air new episodes eight days after they premiere on ABC. If Scandalcontinues to run beyond season three, BET will have permission to show those episodes as well.
“We’re thrilled to be joining forces with ABC in airing this dynamic series,” BET chairman Debra Lee told Hollywood Reporter. “Scandal is a cultural phenomenon that has resonated with viewers for the past two seasons and we’re excited to be part of it’s continued journey.”
BET will kick things off with a Scandalmarathon this August.
Fresh from a Elle Magazine cover and her T.V. father trying to murder her the beautiful Kerry Washington covers The Hollywood Reporter. Sharing the front page with Connie Britton, Anna Gun, Kata Mara, Elisabeth Moss, and Monica Potter, the ladies pose for the cover in black and white. The ABC Scandal star was outfitted in a black tank crop top that has a slight peplum like flare and a lose pair of pants that were fitted at the ankles and pointy toe pumps.
Along with the amazing cover Kerry participates in a group interview where she talks about not landing roles because she’s “ethic”, being politically active, and Scandal’s popularity on Twitter. Check out a piece from the interview below courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter :
THR: Last year, January Jones told THR a story about her audition for Coyote Uglyduring which Jerry Bruckheimer told her she was a terrible dancer. What’s your worst audition?
Washington: It’s a little bit different for me because I’ll audition for something and they’ll just decide that they’re not going “ethnic” with a character, which I hear a lot.
THR: Casting directors still use the word “ethnic”?
Washington: If not “black,” then yeah. People have artistic license … that’s what casting is: fitting the right look to the right character. Whereas you could maybe lose some weight, there’s not really anything I can do, nor would I want to, about being black.

Ladies let us know who you think had the absolute best, and worst look on the red carpet at the MTV Music Awards.
Winner of “Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture” for Ray at the NAACP Image Awards in 2005 and nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for “Best Actress” in the film Lift in 2002, Kerry Washington is a versatile and fearless actress who has built an impressive list of credits in a relatively short amount of time. She garnered critical acclaim for her roles in The Last King of Scotland opposite Forest Whitaker for which she was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture” at the NAACP Image Awards in 2007, The Dead Girl opposite Marcia Gay Harden and Brittany Murphy, and in Lakeview Terrace starring opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Patrick Wilson. In April 2012, Kerry is set to star in Shonda Rhimes highly anticipated drama ‘Scandal’ for ABC.
Recently, Kerry was honored by Lincoln & Essence during the Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon during Oscars Weekend in Hollywood and shared details about her role in the new Eddie Murphy flick “A Thousand Words”. Check out what Kerry Washington has to say:
QUESTION: We’ve recently posted about the Five Must-Haves For Every Professional Woman’s Purse. Name Five things in your purse?
1. An iphone
2. Energy Vitamin packs by David Kirsch (vitamin mineral powder)
3. A bottle of water
4. A book I’m reading
5. A layer of clothing (a scarf, sweater, something because I’m always cold)
QUESTION: You recently accepted an award from Essence “Black Women in Hollywood” and was named an honoree. What has that meant for you?
KW: I think that it’s great when we, as women of color support one another. One of the things that I said in my acceptance speech at the Essence Luncheon was that I pray for the success of my fellow Women of Color in this industry because when one of us does well it creates a space of opportunity for more of us. It’s why I want a film like “A Thousand Words” to do well, because then we get to make more comedies about the values that speak to the goodness of who we are as people. It’s why I want a show like “Scandal” to be a hit, so that all of the networks know that you can put a woman of color in the number one position and have a success, even though they’ve been afraid to do that. The more that we support each other the stronger we’ll continue to be.
QUESTION: What are your Top 3 favorite websites?
2. New York Times.com
3. The chalkboardmag.com
KW: What drew me most to this film were the values of the story as a whole. I really love that the story is about the value and importance of communication, and of saying what you mean, and meaning what you say. One of the important things that Eddie’s character learns is that It’s just as important to listen when communicating as it is to speak. All of those messages are dealt with in a comedic way. It elevates the issues in a way that makes them fun, and I love that. In terms of [my character], I enjoyed playing a woman who was committed to her husband, and to her family and really willing to make it work; willing to even do things outside of her comfort zone because she really believes in the beauty of the relationship and wants their family to work.
What are your favorite apps?
- Yelp (because I travel so much and I can find a great movie theater and an organic grocery store no matter where I go)
- Twitter ( I love being able to interact with people live)
- Instagram (it’s fun because it brings artistry back to digital photos
- Pandora (it’s the best)
What Can you not live without?
- Prayer, that’s the most important relationship
Amen to that! You can follow Kerry Washington on Twitter (@kerrywashington).
