You’ve Updated To iOS7… Now What? Five Features To Know And Love #VZWBUZZ

September 19th, 2013 by Christen If you're like the thousands that spent countless hours updating to iOS7 on yesterday, you're probably wondering "Now what do I do?".  iOS 7 adds more than 200 new features, the biggest being a complete overhaul of the user interface. Other new features include Control Center, a panel that slides up from the bottom of any screen that allows settings like Bluetooth and AirPort to be toggled on and off, a number of new camera features, a new multitasking screen, AirDrop, iTunes Radio and more.  Looking for the best features to take advantage of now?  Check out my top iOS7 updated features and how to access them below.

Siri: Siri can now pull up restaurant reviews, toggle settings, search for images, post to Facebook, play Voicemail, and access tweets. Siri will now attempt to learn the pronunciation of difficult names and Siri also has a new male voice that can be accessed through Settings > General > Siri > Voice Gender.

Camera: The Camera app includes new photo filters, which can be applied to the live view. Tap on the colored dots at the bottom of the screen to access the new filters, and swipe on the screen itself to switch between Video, Photo, Square (takes an Instagram-sized image) and Panoramic modes. Focusing photos can also be done by pressing the volume up button rather than tapping on the screen.

Block Phone Numbers: Specific contacts and phone numbers can be blocked within iOS 7. Go to Settings > Phone > Blocked to add contacts that will be prevented from calling (sending the calls to voicemail), FaceTiming, and sending messages.

iTunes Radio: iTunes Radio can be accessed from within the Music app. It is currently only available for users located in the United States, though it works for users outside of the U.S. as long as they have a U.S. iTunes account. Ringtones and Sounds: iOS 7 adds a slew of newly redesigned ringtones and system sounds, which can be accessed via Settings > Sounds.

iMessage/SMS Time Stamps: Time stamps within iMessage are now available. Pull to the left within on a speech bubble within the app to see when a text or message was sent or received.Names in Messages: The way names are displayed within Messages can be changed in iOS 7. Go to Settings > Mail Contacts and Calendars > Short Name (Under Contacts) to select an option. Choices include first name and last initial, full name, and first name only.

Have you downloaded the iOS7 update yet?  (How long did it take?)  Are you waiting to get the iPhone 5s or 5c instead?  Let me know below...

Disclosure:  Please note that I often tweet using #VZWBuzz – VZWBuzz tweets include a 24/7 conversation and a Friday mobile lifestyle Twitter chat with an emphasis on providing information and education about devices, apps and tools useful to consumers. London Fashion Week: Burberry + iPhone 5s Slow Motion = AWESOMENESS

September 17th, 2013 by Christen

iPhone 5s slow motion

Looking for your iPhone 5s sneek peek?  You don't have to look any further than via Burberry on your favorite social media feed.  London Fashion Week is in full swing and London fashion powerhouse Burberry took to their Instagram feed to highlight the iPhone 5s camera capabilities to thousands of it's fashion house fans.

If you've ever been curious about the new iPhone 5S slow-motion mode, just check out Burberry's Instagram feed. Apple lent the British fashion house the device to capture its pastel-colored Spring/Summer 2014 collection show as part of a cross-promotional partnership.  The full show of the Burberry Prorsum Womenswear S/S14 show appeared on Burberry's YouTube page on Tuesday. Apple announced the collaboration last week, noting that behind-the-scenes footage, product details, and preparation footage would accompany shots of the London runway show.  The 15-second video received more than 20,000 Instagram likes in one day.  Take a peek at the new iPhone 5S slow-motion feature video below.
The iPhone 5s features the same 8-megapixel resolution of its predecessor, but Apple has given the device a slightly larger sensor in order to improve imaging in low-light conditions. It also has a reworked five-element lens wit ha larger f/2.2 aperture. Apple also swapped out the single flash featured on the iPhone 5 for a dual LED flash unit called "True Tone," which should help keep flash-aided images from looking washed out. On the video end, the iPhone 5s also has a 120-frames-per-second slow-motion video mode and precision autofocus matrix metering. "This collaboration celebrates our relationship and shared foundation in design and craftsmanship. We have a mutual passion for creating beautiful products and unlocking emotive experiences through technology, which has made it intensely exciting to explore the capabilities of iPhone 5s,” said Burberry CEP Christopher Bailey. “We’re inspired by what this could mean for the future as we continue to explore the merging of physical and digital experiences.”  With fashion & technology companies teaming up everyday, this trend is bound to grow bigger and better each year.  Who are you looking forward to seeing collaborate next?

Instagram is hot and everyone knows it. Everyone loves selfies, filters, and great shots. We have begun amateur photographers. Well… maybe not. But, tech companies know the pull and popularity of Instagram and Apple if following its lead. Apple Shares the Love With Twitter

June 25th, 2013 by Nicole Apple Shares the Love with Twitter Apple Shares the Love with Twitter i- logo Apple’s CEO Tim Cook called it "the biggest change to iOS since the launch of the original iPhone."  Apple’s next mobile operating system, iOS 7 update will include several technical, design, and app updates.  One of the major technical updates is the inclusion of social media into the makeup of iOS 7.  Smart phones are at the center of how we communicate digitally with our ‘friends’.  Smart phones drive the increase usage of social networks.  And, the newer social networks are built for smart phones first and Apple knows that.  This merging of services is making the connections we do easier and enjoyable - building social ties, multi-tasking at its best.

Apple Shares the Love with Twitter - iTunesRadio Apple has made even simpler to Tweet.  Again, the technology giant tells Twitter “I Love You” by integrating Twitter in Siri and iTunes Radio.  Since the release of iOS 5, Twitter has had an intimate relationship with Apple, getting system level integration.  How?

How Apple Shares The Love With Twitter

1.  In the new ‘Shared Links’ section in Safari, you will see all the shared links from people you follow based on the Twitter timeline.

2.  Just ask Siri!  Yes, you can ask Siri what topic are people tweeting about and Siri will display their tweets – Cool?  I think so! 3.  What music tracks are trending on Twitter? Want to know who’s talking about the new Jay Z or Justin Timberlake track?  Twitter Music can tell you all from iTunes Radio iTunes Radio the Pandora like digital radio service will include a station just from trending music tracks on Twitter.   Apple Shares the Love with Twitter - Siri I see a pattern!  Is everything based on trending, links, and tweets?  Yes.  This is how social media networks get us to use the services even more – to stay connected, informed, and always on. The research is clear -
“Consumers are taking advantage of their portable devices to watch videos, access news and information, check sports, engage in social networking and shop. The time devoted to social networking dwarfs that of streaming video or accessing sports, Nielsen found in its cross-platform report for June. Smartphone users spent 9 hours and 6 minutes a month on social networks -- say, posting status updates on Facebook, tweeting their thoughts to followers on Twitter or checking-in on Foursquare.  Apple iPad users devoted 3 hours and 41 minutes a month to social networks.”   -- LA Times
We are moving into an era of social media x10 explosion ‘linked in’ with our smart phone hardware in a deeper level.

This Is What Apple’s iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like

April 12th, 2013 by Rod

We're all wondering about Apple's iOS 7. With smartphone releases, it's not only about the hardware anymore, it's about the software as also. Display size and processor type/speeds go hand in hand with the phone's OS. Apple has a lot of catching up to do, and as we are anxious to see what they come up with. But some might agree that this is what Apple's iOS 7 should look like. This Is What Apple's iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like - Divas and Dorks - Technology - Logo

With the new iPhone on the horizon for this summer, many consumers are asking what kinds of changes are coming to the next version of iOS.  Apple's mobile software has been the same more or less since its inception back in 2007.   Fanatics and consumers alike have been clamoring for a fresh, new look for Apple's iOS 7. There is just so much room for improvement!

This Is What Apple's iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like - Divas and Dorks - Technology -

This new vision of iOS 7 has been crafted courtesy of Federico Bianco.  This concept shows widget support, quick settings, quick reply, Mission Control, and a customizable lock screen.  All of this gives iOS users access to things they have been waiting for.  Android already has a better user experience and offers more usefulness with the OS without being completely customizable.    I, for one, would love to see some implications of this brought into iOS 7.   Check out the demo video on the iPhone and iPad below. With Jony Ive now at the helm of both hardware and software that may exactly happen.
What do you guys think about this?  Is this something you would like to see in the next version of Apple's iOS?

Possible Details On The Upcoming 5th-Gen iPad, Retina iPad mini, & iPhone 5S

January 29th, 2013 by Tech Staff

medium_8148747152It's the end of January, which means new rumors of refreshed/redesigned Apple products are on the horizon.  The site, iLounge has shared some new details on what could be Apple's 2013 hardware.  let's dive into them, shall we?

  • The 5th-generation iPad which is rumored to launch sometime in October, would have a lighter & thinner casing resembling the body style of the iPad mini.
  • The 2nd generation iPad mini, which is also slated to be released in October, would have a key component that was missing from the original model: a Retina Display.
  • And finally the new iPhone.  The 5S is rumored to launch as early as July (but probably not), would bring a faster processor and equipped with a 13MP Sony camera sensor.  The outer shell & design would be the same as the iPhone 5.
While there has been no conflicting rumors about the new iPads, the new iPhone has been more than one type device style.  There was word of a 4.8inch iPhone coming out dubbed the Math (silly codename) but this model could arrive next year as the iPhone 6.
Are you looking forward to Apple's new 2013 hardware or do you think they have peaked? Let us know what you think about it.
