Leather

Leather arrived as a strong trend on the 2013 Spring runways this past season, with more lightweight options than have been previously characterized by the classic material to accompany the traditional cropped leather jacket and skinny leather pants. Elle pointed out this particular shift in their 2013 Spring Trend Guide, and we are seeing the same trend in tech accessories, with leather options ranging from leather tech gloves to quilted leather headphones. Discover some of our favorites from designers like Kate Spade below.

1. Kate Spade New York Quilted Logo Leather Tech Gloves ($148, Bloomingdales) | 2. A.L.C. X Frends 20th Anniversary Capsule Collection Exclusive Taylor Headphones ($275, Intermix Online) | 3. Trendy Techy Black Quilted iPad Bag ($20, Miamica) | 4. iPhone 5 Madison Case ($80, Case-Mate)

Prints

Everyone from Elle and Cosmo, to even Oprah noted the 2013 Spring print trend that was seen abundantly on the runway in every form from floral to graphic, strips to tribal, and all prints in between. With so many print possibilities, they began to pop up fairly quickly in the tech accessories space from designers such as Jonathan Adler and Lilly Pulitzer.

Bling

Shine and sparkle seem to always be on trend in fashion, but for spring 2013 it was all about everyday bling. Daytime shine became the new daring fashion statement, according to Instyle, and with sequins and rhinestones no longer only for a night out, we began to see this trend infiltrating the world of everyday tech and mobile accessories as well.

Wood

The natural retro vibe has begun to grow back in to fashion in the form of wooden accessories, as noted by Vogue who points to the bags and wooden platforms seen in the Resort 2014 collections of everyone from Michael Kors to Chloe. The same is true in the world of mobile and technology accessories. See some of our favorites in the market below.

Metal Accents

The runways of Spring 2013 also saw metallic accents in everything from shoes and handbags to jewelry as documented by FashionMagazine.com. Though, metallics accents may not seem like a novel concept for tech accessories, we have seen a shift  from solely the traditional silvers to the inclusion of fashionable metallic colors such as rosegold and the pairings of different textures, such as polished and brushed.

Woman Dies From Electrocution While Talking On Charging iPhone 5

July 18th, 2013 by Christen

iphone 5 electrocution

The family of a Chinese woman who died after being electrocuted while talking on her charging iPhone 5 says they want answers and an explanation from Apple.

Apple said Monday it would investigate claims that a Chinese woman was killed by an electric shock she received when answering a call while the device was charging.

The claim quickly drew attention after a woman in the western region of Xinjiang wrote about the death of her 23-year-old sister Ma Ailun on China’s popular microblog service Sina Weibo.

“We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter,” said Apple’s Beijing-based spokeswoman Carolyn Wu, offering condolences to the family.

The state news agency Xinhua said on Sunday that local police had confirmed Ma died of electrocution but “have yet to verify if her phone was involved”.

Ma’s sister warned others not to use their phones while they were charging and asked Apple to provide an explanation, saying on Weibo on Saturday: “What a shame, to pass away like this.”

Those lightening chargers should really come with a warning label nowadays.  Does freak phone accidents like this make you worried about buying them for yourself?  Sound off below.

Instagram is hot and everyone knows it. Everyone loves selfies, filters, and great shots. We have begun amateur photographers. Well… maybe not. But, tech companies know the pull and popularity of Instagram and Apple if following its lead. Apple’s camera app gets a huge upgrade with its new frame, capture, share, and filter that have Instagram like features.

 Apple’s Camera Will Have:

1. Filter Your Shots:  Add filters similar to Instagram by tapping on the filter circles in the apps bottom-right corner (as shown below). Choose gradient shades from full color to grey tones.

This Is What Apple's iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like - Divas and Dorks - Technology - Logo

It’s been a long time coming! The Apple iPhone 5S rumors are back. Summer is getting underway and we’ll be speculating for the next few months over what the next device will be, what will it have and more. You know how that goes. But this time pictures of the iPhone 5S leaked ahead of schedule.

Over the past weekend, MacStories was tipped off with images of the next-generation iPhone.  No real surprise that the hardware resembles the current model, the iPhone 5.  Being a S model means we should see a bump up in internal hardware, iOS 7, and possibly a new feature exclusive to this device.

iPhone 5S Leaked – Possible Specs

  • According to the images, consumers should expect a more powerful CPU w/ the A7 processor (no word on dual-core or quad-core yet) coupled with 1GB of RAM.
  • Bigger camera sensor (possibly 12 or 13MP) now w/ dual-LED flash for better low-light photos.
  • A bigger internal battery.  About 8% bigger to be exact.
  • Apple may finally pull the trigger on a fingerprint scanner patent they have been holding onto for a while now.  The iPhone 5S would have a new Home button that doubles as a biometric fingerprint scanner for additional security measures.

So far, this everything revealed thus far about the next-gen iPhone.  The new iPhone and iOS 7 are due out in the fall.
Does this sound tempting for iPhone 4S owners to upgrade to? Or do you need to see more? Who’s still checkin’ for iPhone?

Apple Shares the Love With Twitter

June 25th, 2013 by Nicole

Apple Shares the Love with Twitter

Apple Shares the Love with Twitter i- logo

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook called it “the biggest change to iOS since the launch of the original iPhone.”  Apple’s next mobile operating system, iOS 7 update will include several technical, design, and app updates.  One of the major technical updates is the inclusion of social media into the makeup of iOS 7.  Smart phones are at the center of how we communicate digitally with our ‘friends’.  Smart phones drive the increase usage of social networks.  And, the newer social networks are built for smart phones first and Apple knows that.  This merging of services is making the connections we do easier and enjoyable – building social ties, multi-tasking at its best.

Apple Shares the Love with Twitter - iTunesRadio
Apple has made even simpler to Tweet.  Again, the technology giant tells Twitter “I Love You” by integrating Twitter in Siri and iTunes Radio.  Since the release of iOS 5, Twitter has had an intimate relationship with Apple, getting system level integration.  How?

How Apple Shares The Love With Twitter

1.  In the new ‘Shared Links’ section in Safari, you will see all the shared links from people you follow based on the Twitter timeline.

2.  Just ask Siri!  Yes, you can ask Siri what topic are people tweeting about and Siri will display their tweets – Cool?  I think so!
3.  What music tracks are trending on Twitter? Want to know who’s talking about the new Jay Z or Justin Timberlake track?  Twitter Music can tell you all from iTunes Radio iTunes Radio the Pandora like digital radio service will include a station just from trending music tracks on Twitter.

Apple Shares the Love with Twitter - Siri

I see a pattern!  Is everything based on trending, links, and tweets?  Yes.  This is how social media networks get us to use the services even more – to stay connected, informed, and always on.

The research is clear –

“Consumers are taking advantage of their portable devices to watch videos, access news and information, check sports, engage in social networking and shop. The time devoted to social networking dwarfs that of streaming video or accessing sports, Nielsen found in its cross-platform report for June.

Smartphone users spent 9 hours and 6 minutes a month on social networks — say, posting status updates on Facebook, tweeting their thoughts to followers on Twitter or checking-in on Foursquare.  Apple iPad users devoted 3 hours and 41 minutes a month to social networks.”

LA Times

We are moving into an era of social media x10 explosion ‘linked in’ with our smart phone hardware in a deeper level.

This Is What Apple’s iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like

April 12th, 2013 by Rod

We’re all wondering about Apple’s iOS 7. With smartphone releases, it’s not only about the hardware anymore, it’s about the software as also. Display size and processor type/speeds go hand in hand with the phone’s OS. Apple has a lot of catching up to do, and as we are anxious to see what they come up with. But some might agree that this is what Apple’s iOS 7 should look like.

With the new iPhone on the horizon for this summer, many consumers are asking what kinds of changes are coming to the next version of iOS.  Apple’s mobile software has been the same more or less since its inception back in 2007.   Fanatics and consumers alike have been clamoring for a fresh, new look for Apple’s iOS 7. There is just so much room for improvement!

This Is What Apple's iOS 7 SHOULD Look Like - Divas and Dorks - Technology -

This new vision of iOS 7 has been crafted courtesy of Federico Bianco.  This concept shows widget support, quick settings, quick reply, Mission Control, and a customizable lock screen.  All of this gives iOS users access to things they have been waiting for.  Android already has a better user experience and offers more usefulness with the OS without being completely customizable.    I, for one, would love to see some implications of this brought into iOS 7.   Check out the demo video on the iPhone and iPad below. With Jony Ive now at the helm of both hardware and software that may exactly happen.
What do you guys think about this?  Is this something you would like to see in the next version of Apple’s iOS?

Possible Details On The Upcoming 5th-Gen iPad, Retina iPad mini, & iPhone 5S

January 29th, 2013 by Tech Staff

medium_8148747152It’s the end of January, which means new rumors of refreshed/redesigned Apple products are on the horizon.  The site, iLounge has shared some new details on what could be Apple’s 2013 hardware.  let’s dive into them, shall we?

  • The 5th-generation iPad which is rumored to launch sometime in October, would have a lighter & thinner casing resembling the body style of the iPad mini.
  • The 2nd generation iPad mini, which is also slated to be released in October, would have a key component that was missing from the original model: a Retina Display.
  • And finally the new iPhone.  The 5S is rumored to launch as early as July (but probably not), would bring a faster processor and equipped with a 13MP Sony camera sensor.  The outer shell & design would be the same as the iPhone 5.
While there has been no conflicting rumors about the new iPads, the new iPhone has been more than one type device style.  There was word of a 4.8inch iPhone coming out dubbed the Math (silly codename) but this model could arrive next year as the iPhone 6.
Are you looking forward to Apple’s new 2013 hardware or do you think they have peaked? Let us know what you think about it.
