Angela Bassett Radiates Spring Star Power At “Olympus Has Fallen” Premier

March 22nd, 2013 by Nigel

On Monday, March 18th the premier of Filmdistric’s “Olympus Has Fallen” took place at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, California. Hitting the red carpet was the beautiful Angela Bassett who was serving bright colors, wearing strapless knee length yellow embellished dress, and a pair of Edmundo Castillo ‘Debi D’Orsay’ sandal.

The single sole metallic open toe sandal has a d’Orsay style back with a 4 1/4″ heel. The Italian made shoe has leather lining and sole and a padded insole. Unfortunately the silver pair is unavailable for purchase but you can snag the Pewter pair here, or the Gold pair here. If your loving the silver you can get similar Edmundo Castillo’s here and here.
Angela accessorized with a pair of stud earring, a sliver and white cuff, a silver statement clutch, and her edgy short hair cut. We love how well this color complements her skin tone, hugs her body, and the expose neck line because Ms. Bassett looks amazing.
Divas its time to sound off about this look. Are we feeling Angela Bassett’s red carpet look or could she have stepped it up a notch. How would you style this yellow strapless dress or would you pass on wearing this garment. Sound off below.

She Wore What? – This Week In Celebrity Style Recap

January 29th, 2013 by Fashion Staff

This weekend saw a ton of red carpets full of stylish celebrities. Celebs like Fantasia, Kerry Washington, Rocsi Diaz brought “it” to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Trumpet awards, or just around the town.  Check out our celebrity style favorites of the weekend below…

Our favorite “love-to-talk about” celeb Fantasia graced the red carpet at the Trumpet awards in this elegant Ralph Lauren white dress that shocked folks across the nation! She accessorized this look with jeweled earring and bracelets along with Giuseppe pumps. She looks absolutely fantabulous!

Want to recreate Fantasia look on a budget? Check out this ABS Allen Schwartz White Sleeveless gown that has the gathered bodice.

While Kenya was showing the nation her “stallion booty” Nene Leakes was seen in LA as well dressed down or up depending on which way you’re looking at it! Lol This semi-classic look with leather sleeve and ripped jeans looks simple.

Of course Nene’s look can be created affordable. This look includes a Vero Moda blazer that swiped up for a smooth $75. Along with ASOS ripped jeans for $38 and patent pumps for $40.

An honorable mention goes to Serena Williams and Rocsi Diaz. Serena rocked this fire red dress with these Nike kicks. This is a trend, dress with gym shoes, has been kicking around for some time now and shows no sign of letting go soon as fashionistas are lending more towards “comfortable flyness!!!”

Rocsi, who left BET and is now a correspondent with ET, is seen in this nude and black lace embroidered gown from designer Mandalay. Her looks then to be a mesh of classics and overboard, this is the perfect combination.

Kerry Washington Vs Olivia Pope: Life Imitates Art At The 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards

January 28th, 2013 by Christen

Kerry Washington walks the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet cascading in white amidst cloud of bold colored gowns.  Dressed in a two-piece Rodarte gown complete with a split V quilted top and flowing white bottom with a lace hem.  She accessorized with a silver box clutch, diamond earrings, smokey eyes and a nude lip.  Ask any Scandal fan and this look definitely looks familiar…

Kerry described her look as “Olivia Pope white” while talking to E! on tonight’s 2013 SAG Awards red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A.

Could Kerry be transitioning her look to appear more like Ms. Olivia Pope?  Undoubtedly the most notable Olivia Pope outfit this season was her this ball gown by designer Jean Fares Couture.

Could Kerry be conjuring up the spirit of Olivia Pope for her future red carpet appearances?  If so, we’ll definitely need to keep an eye out for Kerry Washington this red carpet season.  She’s sure to have a few more surprises up her sleeves and we’re awaiting every moment of it.

United We Stand: Hollywood Invades DC For The 2013 Presidential Inauguration

January 22nd, 2013 by Lifestyle Staff

Now that President Obama has been sworn in for his second term, let’s get to the second most important part of this past weekend—the fashion! There was much pomp and circumstance in DC with some sizzling celebrity fashion to behold during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and we have some of our favorite celebrities celebrating in the DMV below.

Helping to kick-off the National Day of Service, Angela Bassett looked sleek and stunning in all black with leather pants and jacket. She rocked a fierce short cut with auburn highlights, one of Angela’s signature hair styles.

Continuing to share her message of a “Heart Healthy” lifestyle (signified by Go Red for Women), Star Jones rocked a simple red turtleneck and slacks with the stand out being her red faux fur coat. It’s hard to believe either of these women are in their 50’s!

As part of his service activities, John Legend recorded a Dr. Seuss book for DC Public Schools while wearing a thick, dark charcoal cowl-neck sweater with cable-knit detailing.john-legend-iServe

Later, he and fiancé Chrissy Teigen appeared at’s Generation Now Youth Inaugural Party. Chrissy looked gorgeous in a delicately embroidered ivory sheath by Tom Ford, with sheer sleeves and simple, black ribbon tie.

Fresh off the premiere of his new movie, LuvCommon was part of the several A-list celebrities that performed. He chose a more casual look with jeans, sneaks and a tee-still well suited for the event.

Eva Longoria, hostess for the Latino Inaugural 2013: In Performance at the Kennedy Center, was stunning in Vivienne Westwood’s peach strapless ‘Bellini’ dress. Down at the Capitol for the Official 2013 Inauguration Ceremonies, she looked fashionable and sensible in black suede, over the knee boots and scarf. Eva kept warm in a haute pink leather trench from Bally Resort Pre-Spring 2013 Collection.

Beyonce and Jay-Z stepped out in style for Bey’s rendition of the National Anthem (watch here, listen here). She looked flawless in black, floor length velvet and chiffon beaded Emilio Pucci gown, luxe fur Dior coat, Lorraine Schwartz emerald jewelry (80 carat earrings, 50 carat ring) and brightly painted nails in Tangerine on the Rocks. Jay-Z looked distinguished with a fresh cut, aviator shades, and a gray tailored Tom Ford suit with a navy and baby blue lined scarf.

Looking nothing less than presidential, entertainment’s own president and first lady showed how to impress at the 2013 Inauguration.

Golden Globes Recap: Red Carpet Style For Everyday Life

January 15th, 2013 by Fashion Staff
Hollywood’s Super-women were out in full force for the 70th Annual Golden Globe awards. The Golden Globes recognizes those in front and behind the scenes of some of our favorite tv shows. While the gowns had most going wild it was the soft-waves, fish-tail braids, side-swept buns and ponytails that dominated the red carpet.  Check out some of our favorite red carpet trends and how you can incorporate them in your own style with a few easy steps below…

Celebrity Stylist, June Ambrose predicted last year that this year’s red carpet would be lend a lot of love to colors like Nude and Scarlet, and on the gowns it did. But, it was the make-up, or lack thereof, that really caught our attention, focusing solely on the face. Scene stealers like Jessica Chastain kept it classy with sleek hair and a sexy lip stain. And only J. Lo can shut it down with ombre-hair and a nude lip, elegantly thrown over one-shoulder.

Achieve This Look: With the pin-curl method. After curling (over and under to avoid creating the ‘flip’ hairstyle) separate the hair, about 1” and roll in the shape of a pinwheel, secure with a bobby-pin. After a few hours (do attempt this a few times) unroll and shape hair, using spritz into relaxed, tousled waves. This look can also be tightly tied at the nape of the neck and pinned into a low bun.

Taylor Swift and Lucy Lui’s messy yet put together styles have a certain level of elegance with them. Lucy Lu’s fishtail braid is perfection.

Achieve The Fishtail: by separating hair into two equal sections. Hold right section with your right hand. Then, take your left hand and grab about half-inch of hair from the outside of the left section and cross it over the inside of the right section. Repeat on the other side and continue to end of the hair and secure with an elastic.

Not many opted for a bold look, so when its done we tend to take notice. Julianne Moore, Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba all both opted for one bold color and we have to say, they nailed it!

Achieve Nicole’s Bold Eye: Her makeup artist Beau Nelson used Single in Sky eyeshadow by Elizabeth Arden and  Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Midnight on her top and bottom lash lines. For Jessica’s  Bold Lip: Use the exact color its Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera.

Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway sported the classic pixie cut, a look that flatters almost every woman’s face.  Smokey eyes and matte lips completed both looks.
To Achieve: Begin with exfoliated lips. You can use a toothbrush or a damp washcloth to remove any dead skin. Then follow with some lip balm, not lipgloss as you will not achieve the desired effect. Next apply a deep pigmented lip stain like Lip Stain in Scarlet, $20, available at Laura Mercier or Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in Code, $32, available at Nordstrom. For a nude lip try Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Stain in Nude, $24, available at Sephora.

Sadly, we didn’t see many nail trends on the carpet, but the funny and quirky Zooey Deschanel shared with her followers via Instagram her nails which featured vintage cameras and film rolls.

Adrienne Bailon (Style TV’s Empire Girls) came from humble beginnings, grew up in the projects in the lower east side, her mother still works at a local hospital. She wanted to work with a network that displayed positive images of women. She selected the Style Network because of Kimora Lee Simmons and her show “Life in the Fab Lane” She wanted show people what she was doing to break out as a solo artist after her stints with 3LW & Cheetah girls.

Meeka Claxton (VH1’s Basketball Wives), came on the show to shed a positive light on being a basketball wife, although she is married to a basketball player she created her own wealth, she wanted to show viewers that you can make your dreams come true. She wanted to show that her success was not connected to a man.

Rating were identified as the primary reason for the continued imbalance on reality television with regard to how women of color are portrayed among other environmental and cultural factors. WEEN announced clear action items and next steps, including: each person in attendance to join, to sign-up to mentor at least one young lady, and to commit to joining WEEN’s future PROJECT REALism programs to empower young girls.
