DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
Amazon is so serious about its next big thing that it hired three women to do nothing but try on size 8 shoes for its Web reviews. Full time. The online retailer is shooting 3,000 fashion images a day in a photo studio using patent-pending technology.
And it is happily losing hundreds of millions of dollars a year on free shipping — and, on apparel, even free returns — to keep its shoppers coming back. Until now, fashion has been one of the few categories that Amazon has tried to dominate without success. In addition to its own site, Amazon bought the shoe site Zappos.com for more than $1 billion in 2009, started the shoe site Endless.com and MyHabit, and bought the boutique Shopbop in 2006.

Having wounded the publishing industry, slashed pricing in electronics and made the toy industry quiver, Amazon is taking on the high-end clothing business in its typical way: go big and spare no expense.
“It’s Day 1 in the category,” Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s chief executive, said in a recent interview. Though characteristically tight-lipped on bottom-line details, Mr. Bezos said the company was making a “significant” investment in fashion to convince top brands that it wanted to work with them, not against them.
The traditional retail world — and many major brands that want no part of Amazon — are gearing up to fight for their lives.
“It has the latitude to set prices and charge whatever it wants,” Sucharita Mulpuru, an analyst for Forrester Research, said of Amazon. “That is a huge threat for brands.”
Amazon has sold clothing for years. But recently it has focused on signing on hundreds of contemporary and high-end brands, including Michael Kors, Vivienne Westwood, Catherine Malandrino, Jack Spade and Tracy Reese, and it continues to prowl for more. On Monday, some of Amazon’s muscle was on display as the company sponsored, and live-streamed, the Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the accompanying exhibit.
The Gala Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibition took place last night, and of course fashion industry insiders slipped on their best pieces to celebrate the stylish annual event.

They Call It Mello Yellow…
Coco Rocha plays in pretty pinks and yellows in this vintage Givenchy number, while Solange Knowles plays it safe in sophistication in this gown by Rachel Roy. Who rocked yellow better?
Lethal in Leather…
Rihanna dons this reptile textured gown by Tom Ford while Rosario Dawson ops for a similar sleeveless option by Calvin Klein. Which one killed this leather look on the red carpet?
Rashida Jones floral look by Tory Burch gave us more matrimony than red carpet flare, while Sarah Jessica Parker stunned in her floral Valentino gown. Who gave up the flower power best?
Battle of the Cleavage…
At first glance, you could mistake these two starlets as the same actress – but Paula Patton shows us what she’s got in a low cut gown by Vera Wang, while Sofia Vergara showcases her goods in Marchesa. Who shined best in this silhouette?

Gabrielle Union wore Gianvito Rossi black satin wedges to the “Think Like A Man” Premiere in NYC. These heels are from the Spring 2012 collection featuring crystal embellishment. The designer expresses his predilection for sleek style and opts for light silhouettes, 4″ wedged heels, and hidden details. Cascades of crystals en-crust the heels of black satin wedges and makes an opulent statement which each step within them.
Would you rock these stylish crystal delights? How would you have styled Gabrielle differently with the Gianvito Rossi heels?
Every woman owns pieces that showcase & celebrates their individual style, grace and beauty. From furs to stilettos and everything in between you can find some of everything in a woman’s diva kit. In celebration of VH1’s Divas Celebrate Soul television special, Essence Magazine recently published a blog breaking down the diva kit or the essential fashion staples you need to tap into your inner diva. Check out a few of these notions and let us know what you think…
Multiple Wardrobe Changes
A diva must have several outfit changes to suit every occasion. At the ‘VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul’ event Jennifer Hudson had a total of four fabulous outfit changes in one night. From left: The Blonds crystal gown, Francesco Scognamiglio mini-dress and thigh high boots, The Blonds bustier mini, and Dolce & Gabbana mini fringe dress.
In real life, (that’s without a stylist and entourage…) I could see owning a staple dress that can be worn multiple ways. Like the LBD (aka The Little Black Dress). The one staple that should be in every woman’s Diva Kit, including yours…
The Thigh High Boot
There’s something about the thigh high boot that gives a girl a Wonder Woman quality, and since a diva is a super woman, these are essential. To the left, Jennifer Hudson wears Francesco Scognamiglio crystal encrusted boots, and Blige, Christian Dior Guetre Alligator boots.
A good boot always makes a statement, and it doesn’t have to cost you a car payment either…
The clutch is sleek and chic, which is what a diva embodies. Lose the bulky shoulder bag and keep it minimal. I’m absolutely a fan of the clutch, but when it comes down to packing the size makes sure you carry the essentials and the essentials only. (so pack light…)

Tis the season to look fabulous! With all of the upcoming family gatherings and holiday parties for Christmas and New Years, I’ve put together 3 of my favorite Holiday Party looks that are sure to make you the best dressed employee at the Holiday party, the most stylish cousin at the family get together and the sexiest woman bringing in the New Year.
When celebrating the holiday with family, I always want to look cute and comfortable so this year I will be wearing my favorite denim top from Avenue at $34.50.
Just like Plaid, denim shirts are back in style and I love the way mine fits (Not too small, not too big).
I will be pairing my denim shirt with my Vibrant Flame Minnie Pant from J Crew ($79.50). They are unbelievable comfortable. I can dress them up or down. I love them so much I bought them in Black, Navy and Khaki as well.
My shoe pick also comes from J Crew. Ill be wearing the Glitterati Ballet Flat ($158) that are comfy with a touch of sparkle!
Unfortunately I am not apart of Corporate America but I have tons of friends who are preparing for their office Holiday Party and if I am not mistaken, it takes place after work. That’s why I chose the Bubbled Career Navy dress with the camel bow skinny belt from Rackety Rack at $120. Its perfect to wear to work and head right over to the party after work hours. I love all of the beautiful drapes and folds. I would pair this dress with some Opaque tights with matching black pumps from Steve Madden at $99.95.
If you are planning to attend a formal Holiday party, here are two dresses that will definitely make you stand out in the room. My first choice is the Swing Dress from ASOS Curve ($136.35). Its soft, feminine and flows so beautifully. Another great option is the Samantha Sequin Party Dress by one of my favorite designers Monif C ($228). You can never go wrong with Sequin, it is a definite show stopper. I would pair this form fitting glamorous dress with a nude Louboutin Pump. What looks do you have your eyes set on for the upcoming Holiday parties?
We’ve tweeted, talked, stalked and held our breath up until the day that the Versace For H&M collection was available for purchase…it has came, went and we’re still as excited as if the announcement was just made yesterday. Check out the chaotic excitement that was the Versace For H&M Pre Shopping Event…
First off, let me be honest – Am I a die hard Versace fan? No. In fact, I was an anti-Versace fashionista for a long time. Since the Versace for H&M collection was announced, I have had my doubts, snickers and serious side eyes on what to expect from the collection. Since reviewing the collection via online photos, etc – I still had a few reservations on what to expect from the designs in real life. But on Friday, November 18th – H&M launched a special Press Preview & Pre-Shopping event for their highly anticipated Versace For H&M Collection.
Upon arrival I stumbled across two lines – one line filled with people camping out for Saturday’s public release of the collection, and another line filled with socialites, bloggers, industry stylists, editors and more. In the blink of an eye, once those doors opened – all since of fashion civility went out the window and the ferocity of finding fashion gold became top priority. Spotted throughout the aisles were Robert Verdi, Bevy Smith, Diane Valentine and more!
Since I didn’t have any set piece in mind, I stood by the entrance and watched the H&M staff replinish the racks with loads and loads of Versace designs. Once I saw something I liked, I got the attention of the associate and asked for my size. For the most part, I got away unscathed (barely).
I didn’t want to buy pieces (in my opinion) that could easily be identified as apart of the Versace for H&M collection – because once the fad is done, then what? I wanted pieces that I could easily mix and match within my current wardrobe. Some of these looks I could easily pair with a blazer or jeans and take the look from day to night with ease. (Wearing the pieces all at once? Not gonna happen *smile*) Take a look at some of the pieces that I scored during the event and let me know what you think!
Versace For H&M Top – $49.95
Versace For H&M Leggings – $29.95
I just had to get the opinion of my Twitter family before I hit the registers…
Versace For H&M Dress – $79
Now onto my favorite finds….THE ACCESSORIES! I can definitely testify to the fact that I scored big on the accessories (because by the time I even arrived inside of H&M many of the fierce finds were already gone.)
Versace For H&M Emblem Choker
Versace For H&M Lion Choker
Did you head over to H&M over the weekend? Let us know what you found!
