New Year’s Fashionable Resolutions
January 3rd, 2013 by Fashion StaffWe’ve officially survived the Mayan Armageddon, yet another presidential election and a handful of fashion weeks the world over. But when it comes to our closets, have we really moved forward? The internet is full of New Year’s Eve fashion resolutions, but we wanted to take a more local approach to discover what our readers were really thinking. We scoured the streets of New York City to find out what style habits its citizens want to break, change, or start in the name of the New Year and you’ll never guess what resolution admissions they revealed.
Here’s hoping that that their experiments in aesthetic evolution might influence some stylish science of your own!

The Divas & Dorks Guide to Making A Fashion Resolution of Your Own:
1. Make it fit your life now, not 12 months ago.
Take a second to look at how your day-to-day schedule, commitments, personality, relationships, work life, down time, and general lifestyle have changed over the past year. Then look at your wardrobe— does the tone of your personal style match that of your personal attitude (i.e. bolder color palette for a bold personality, more tailored/body-conscious pieces for a more confident body perception, etc.)? If not, pinpoint where it’s going wrong, and reconstruct it to reflect the current you— or, on the flipside, the you who you’d like to be in the New Year.
2. Make sure it’s doable.
DO NOT, we repeat, do not aspire to spend insane amounts of money or to rack up ridiculous credit card bills in the pursuit of your fashion revolution resolution. Do what the real fashionistas do— emulate design, not etymology. Rather than getting hung up on labels, make a pros-and-cons list of what you love about your favorite designers’ designs, and scour your favorite stores for their more-affordable incarnations. Allow yourself to invest big bucks on one piece that simultaneously captures your new attitude and straddles fashion borders (i.e. day-to-night or work-to-downtime).
3. Commit to the change.
Don’t be afraid to break your former fashion cycles. Trust that those who love you will welcome your fashion attitude as a reflection of a new and better you on the inside— that the change in your style cycles reflects a renewed sense of confidence and a reinvestment in self.

The five foot two rapper reached new heights literally when she went nude on Good Morning America in these pair of Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
How To Shop For Your Fashionable Man This Holiday Season!
November 23rd, 2012 by Fashion StaffThere used to be a time when it was very difficult to shop for a man; there really was not much to choose from, and the fabrics appeared to be all the same. But now? PLEASE. MAJOR fashion improvements! We are absolutely adoring and addicted to each season’s men fashion trends! With looks that embody the same complexities as men themselves, they are tailored, funky, colorful, fun, and have accessorized accents JUST as much as the ladies!
However, shopping for the man in your life can be a daunting task, from style to quality – you need to know what works for him and what to look for. But when you do it the right way — when you know what to look for and how to make your money go the extra mile — it becomes less of an obligation and more of an opportunity. For better stuff, for better savings, or for something that will set you, your man and your gift apart this holiday season!

The Suit
Check the seams on the inside of the jacket. If they’re hand-sewn, you’ll see one single thread running in a wavy pattern; if they’re machine-sewn, you’ll see two threads joined in a chainlike pattern. Hand-sewn stitches are generally more resilient.
The Shoes
Bend the shoe to simulate walking. If the leather is still wrinkled after it has returned to the flat position, that’s a sign of shoddy leather.

The Overcoat
Make sure it’s wool. Or cashmere. Or a blend of both. And, if possible, waterproof. Trust us.
The Trousers
If we’re talking button-fly, count the number of buttons. If there are two or less, you’re asking for trouble. Have them tailored to a one-inch break so only a little cloth drapes over his shoes.
Men have no excuse now…they don’t have to leave home wearing the same “basic brown or black”, or the typical “baby blue button up and khakis”. The doors have been opened for them to express themselves freely fashion-wise, having an amazing time w bright colors and prints!

From toddlers in tuxedos, to the effortlessly sexy Aiden Shaw in linen, men (and little boys) now have a wider platform to obtain some of today’s trendy fashions! No excuses, men! Try a look that is tailored to your body type; try a pop of color w your suit, whether it be in your tie or your socks; express yourself! (And ladies, if you have to usher your man into a sexier, sophisticated look…now you have to tools and tips for what to look for and make your holiday shopping season a littler easier.)

Tis The Season…To Look Fabulous!
December 7th, 2011 by Cat Peoples
Tis the season to look fabulous! With all of the upcoming family gatherings and holiday parties for Christmas and New Years, I’ve put together 3 of my favorite Holiday Party looks that are sure to make you the best dressed employee at the Holiday party, the most stylish cousin at the family get together and the sexiest woman bringing in the New Year.
When celebrating the holiday with family, I always want to look cute and comfortable so this year I will be wearing my favorite denim top from Avenue at $34.50.
Just like Plaid, denim shirts are back in style and I love the way mine fits (Not too small, not too big).
I will be pairing my denim shirt with my Vibrant Flame Minnie Pant from J Crew ($79.50). They are unbelievable comfortable. I can dress them up or down. I love them so much I bought them in Black, Navy and Khaki as well.
My shoe pick also comes from J Crew. Ill be wearing the Glitterati Ballet Flat ($158) that are comfy with a touch of sparkle!

Unfortunately I am not apart of Corporate America but I have tons of friends who are preparing for their office Holiday Party and if I am not mistaken, it takes place after work. That’s why I chose the Bubbled Career Navy dress with the camel bow skinny belt from Rackety Rack at $120. Its perfect to wear to work and head right over to the party after work hours. I love all of the beautiful drapes and folds. I would pair this dress with some Opaque tights with matching black pumps from Steve Madden at $99.95.

If you are planning to attend a formal Holiday party, here are two dresses that will definitely make you stand out in the room. My first choice is the Swing Dress from ASOS Curve ($136.35). Its soft, feminine and flows so beautifully. Another great option is the Samantha Sequin Party Dress by one of my favorite designers Monif C ($228). You can never go wrong with Sequin, it is a definite show stopper. I would pair this form fitting glamorous dress with a nude Louboutin Pump. What looks do you have your eyes set on for the upcoming Holiday parties?
