Stay Comfortable “No Matter What” With Honeywell Lyric (@HoneywellNow)

June 18th, 2014 by Christen

Honeywell Lyric

The new smartphone powered Honeywell Lyric thermostat has launched this week, making it the newest “must have” addition for any connected home enthusiast this year.  This week in various New York City hot spots, the Honeywell Lyric team brought together journalists and bloggers for unique experiences sure to rattle comfort and completely get you out of your comfort zone.

Honeywell Lyric

Facing a fear isn’t always pretty…

The instructors at Hollywood Stunts hung, held and taught journalists how to repel from a high scaffold (from 30 feet in the air) and how to practice safe stunt fights (sorta like the ones you see in movies).  During my uncomfortable climb on top of the 30-ft scaffold, I tried reminding myself that I don’t really have a fear of heights, but by the time I reached the top – I realized that I failed convincing myself.

Must Read:  Meet Honeywell’s Lyric Thermostat – Home Comfort That’s In Tune With Your Schedule

Honeywell Lyric

My instructor was pleased with my first step at rappelling down the 30ft wall…

From atop of the 30-ft scaffold, I was instructed by my Hollywood Stunts professional on how to secure my equipment and the proper way to safely rappel myself down the massive astroturf wall.  The skill of rappelling is an essential climbing skill than many use for sport activity and military travel.

Honeywell Lyric

Slow and steady wins this rappel race.

Learning the art of using the belay and adjusting my hand grip simultaneously had me scaling down the wall in no time.  Although it took a little convincing and reassuring that I had what it takes to scale down the wall on my own, there was no better feeling that having my feet safely planted on the ground.

Honeywell Lyric

The face of a champion! There’s o better feeling in the world than reaching a goal and defeating your fears!

The Honeywell Lyric product experience highlighted how easy the Honeywell Lyric is to install and use for home comfort while at home and savings while away.  Our time at Hollywood Stunts not only got us journalists out of the office and into some tense, uncomfortable moments but it made for an afternoon that I’ll never forget.

(Thanks Honeywell Lyric for a fun-filled afternoon in Brooklyn that definitely got me out of my comfort zone and maybe into a new career as a Hollywood stunt woman!)

Fashion’s Biggest Party – Fashion’s Night Out Is Now Over

February 27th, 2013 by Christen

After four exciting years of shopping til you drop and fashion hangovers, Anna Wintour has officially pulled the plug on fashion’s biggest party – Fashions Night Out.  Fashion’s Biggest Party – Fashion’s Night Out Is Now Over.

fashion's night out

After four years, Anna Wintour has pulled the plug on fashion’s biggest party…

According to the official website “Fashion’s Night Out will go on hiatus in the United States in 2013, in order to enable retailers to channel their resources towards strategies more in keeping with their current priorities.”… WAIT, what about those who priorities include fashionable partying? :/

FNO

According to organizers the problem wasn’t unruly shoppers turning quiet neighborhoods into “zoos” so much as it was about money. “The sponsors of the event—Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and NYC & Co.—made the joint decision to go on hiatus so retailers and designers can focus their budgets on projects that are more in line with their specific objectives, rather than a big event on one night in September.”

Lisa Lockwood at Women’s Wear Daily reported that the event became a burden for designers and retailers given that “they have had to invest more and more of their resources to maintain a high level of quality, and there unquestionably was some backlash, especially from designers who were staging fashion shows at the same time.” But as the event grew every year there were also logistical problems. After this year’s FNO Hillary Reisenberg wrote a piece at BuzzFeed titled “How A Worldwide Shopping Party Became A Dangerous Liability,” a problem that was particularly evident in New York. She pointed out that in the city the crowds damaged cars and patrons were served drinks with little oversight as to whether or not they were underaged.

While I’ll admit, there were issues of extreme partying that took place during Fashion’s Night Out, the retail event really kicked off New York Fashion Week in a way unlike anything before.  It was a chance for those who are unable to experience life underneath the NYFW tents to become apart of Fashion Week in some way.  (Granted, those same individuals could quite possibly be the same ones featured in the unruly video above, but I digress.)

Will you miss the Fashion’s Night Out experience this year or are you over the pressures of retail therapy hype?

Celebrate WithoutSole’s 3rd Annual Sneaker Ball Fundraiser In ATL

October 30th, 2012 by Tiffany

What happens when you gather a bunch of influencers for an amazing cause?

This will be the third year Initial eVennts hosts its annual Sneaker Ball in hopes of announcing the month long collection of thousands of shoes. The Sneaker Ball is the finale event to the Without Sole shoe campaign, which is a 30 day push through the month of october to collect 12,000 shoes.

Initial eVennts’ co-founders Evan Eskridge and Oluwatoyin Salami decided to put together multiple talents as a call to action. “We wanted to be the change we wish to see -a group of young people doing something for nonprofit instead of looking for profit. Pave a different path.”  Which in turn created the Without Sole campaign that is spreading across the globe.

This mission is particularly interesting because it’s shoes instead of clothes, like most charities. Oluwatoyin Salami (Co-founder) decided on shoes because her father is from Nigeria and told her stories of him being six years old and having to mow someone’s lawn just to get a pair of shoes. His family couldn’t afford to buy him any and without shoes he wouldn’t have been able to continue in school. Her father is now a doctor, and she finds it empowering to think that these pair of shoes could be the foundation for many kids to go to school and become future doctors, lawyers and teachers. People often take shoes for granted and don’t realize that without shoes there’s not only discomfort but some major hindrances, like going to school, work and other public places that are vital for success.

The non-profit does a variety of events within the community throughout 30 days of October. The Sneaker Ball  is an annual event where the sum of shoes collected throughout the campaign is announced. Anticipation builds each year as the amount of shoes collected grows. Last year 5,500 shoues were donated and distributed to those in need. This event is a very trendy event in which everyone dresses up, but wears their favorite sneakers. Everything at the ball will be fresh from the shoes, to the mindset, to the food.

“Being as this is the finale everyone should have a fresh mindset with our mission in mind and the hard work under our belt. The food will be fresh as well from Organic vendors.” It’s the launch of a new life for someone some where else and the launch of a new way of thinking for the locals.

Majority will benefit the homeless population in Atlanta, but will ultimately touch people globally that are otherwise unable to obtain a single pair of sneakers. U-Haul and TIWAWORKS are two returning sponsors again this year. New sponsors include Enterprise, Black Tie BBQ, RiousDesign, Vinnie’s Styles, and others.

The Sneaker Ball will be held on Friday, November 2nd at the trendy Goat Farm in northwest Atlanta – tickets are $10 online/$20 at the door and donations will be accepted for those that still want to donate.  Visit www.withoutsole.com for complete donation locations, event ticketing and information, as well as sponsor and organization information.
