The Luxurious Style Of 2013 Cadillac XTS & The Art For Life Gala (Celebrity Pics)

July 31st, 2012 by Christen

This past weekend, Cadillac invited DivasandDorks.com as guests for a weekend in the Hamptons! Chauffeured in high style, we got the chance to enjoy the premium style of the 2013 Cadillac XTS Platinum. With the debut of the touch sensitive CUE (Cadillac User Experience) system – this posh driving experience makes it difficult to go back driving anything less luxe. CUE combines advanced technology with a simplistic user interface that makes any driving experience a joy – no matter if you’re driving down the street for errands or off for a getaway weekend. My favorite attribute about the Cadillac XTS include the Driver Awareness Package which uses the Safety Alert Seat (with vibration) to alert you of lane departure, Blind Spot & Collision warnings. It also comes equipped with Remote start, SiriusXM satellite radio, OnStar and its own iPad application (as part of the customer experience, each 2013 Cadillac XTS buyer will receive an iPad with their new car.)

While in the Hamptons, we got the opportunity to take advantange of all this countryside had to offer. From walks on the beach, faboulous seafood and extravagant shopping. In addition to daytime fun, we attended Russell Simmons’ Art For Life Gala at his private estate in the Hamptons. The event geared towards raising awareness and funds to encourage creativity and arts for children in schools. Hosted by Soledad O’Brien the Art For Life Gala was the toast of the Hamptons with celebs in attendance including Star Jones, Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, Grant & Tamia Hill and more! The evening concluded with memorable performances by Diggy Simmons, Melanie Fiona, Anita Baker and Salt N Pepper and overall raised more than $200k for the Art For Life charity program.

Essence Music Festival: Escape To New Orleans Ep. 3

July 23rd, 2012 by Christen

If you’re looking for the genuine New Orleans experience, look no further. Earlier this summer, I got the chance to explore the city, alongside Nate from WorldWideNate.com to get a bona fide experience of what New Orleans, Louisiana truly has to offer. As a native (of sorts), my lineage has roots in the Crescent city, however my experience is limited as I’ve only been to New Orleans once before at the age of 9. Thanks to the Ford Escape – I got the chance to escape to New Orleans and experience the rich history, delicious food & a certain je ne sais quoi – that’s authentic, only in New Orleans. Check out the third installment of ‘Escape To New Orleans’ airing on Essence.com this week – below.

LISA BLUE: Runway Photos 2012 Swimwear

With many of the fashion industry’s top swimsuit designers showing off their most innovative collections during the five-day event, Mercedes-Benz will roll-out the new SL63 AMG and showcase its unparalleled capability to create bespoke vehicles out of the highest-quality paints, leathers and trims.  The SL63 AMG is exemplary of pure performance and chic design – the iconic AMG roadster features an ultra-premium diamond white exterior with a red and black colorblocking luxe leather interior and hand sewn cross-stitching as well as a carbon fiber trim.  The 19″ AMG Triple 5-Spoke Wheels with silver brake calipers and panorama sunroof make this vehicle the most eye-catching fashion statement to roll down Ocean Drive.

SL63 AMG will premiere on July 20 at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami

The SL63 AMG will premiere on July 20 at “Bespoke by Mercedes-Benz,” an event the brand is throwing on The Raleigh hotel pool deck.  Hosted by Laure Heriard Dubreuil, Founder & CEO of The Webster Miami, and jewelry designer, Mary Kate Steinmiller, the exclusive invite-only media event will highlight the point of intersection between the worlds of fashion and luxury automobiles.  Guests will take part in a “do-it-yourself” themed fashion project right beside the SL63 AMG.

With the help of the hosts, attendees will have the opportunity to create their own bespoke fashion accessories including jewelry, headbands, and clutches using Mercedes-Benz vehicle leather and other luxe materials.  Mary Kate Steinmiller’s limited-edition Mercedes-Benz fashion accessories will be on sale exclusively at The Webster following the event.

A New Sleeker, Sexier & Sophisticated Ford is Here!

July 13th, 2012 by Christen

As a fan of fly, fancy & sophisticated vehicles on the road – I have a bit of a admiration that goes a little “further” than the Ford you may know and love. Recently, I got the opportunity to experience Ford’s multicultural marketing at work — from the red carpet to community events with the Essence Music Festival. While each experience was unique, they both focused on the same type of consumer, the hard working, get-it-done, Divas Drive In Heels type of gal. From my experiences driving the 2013 Ford Taurus & Ford Escape in New Orleans to checking out the sleek & sophisticated 2013 Ford Fusion in Los Angeles – these aren’t your grandpappy’s Fords. Check out what some of your favorite celebrities had to say about the new look of Ford & the 2013 Ford Escape Giveaway on BET below…

The Brand New 2013 Escape hosts the Red Carpet Pre-Show at the BET Awards. Don’t miss this year’s celebrity arrivals and fashion. Watch it here!

I’ve had so much fun experiencing the new lines of Fords coming to a showroom near you soon. Stay tuned for the Divas Drive In Heels: Ford Edition series where we’ll put each vehicle to the test & let you know which one is best for you!

Divas Day At The Track: Stunt Driving & Police Chasing With Ford! #GoFurther

Divas Day At The Track With Ford

Christen & T. Strong showing the Ford Test Track Who’s Boss!

For the second year in a row, DivasandDorks.com has been invited by Ford to participate in the annual Ford Trend Conference. Over 200 local and international media guests traveled to Detroit, MI to experience the internal and external highlights of Ford’s journey. During this year, I was fortunate enough to speak with some of the leading minds behind Ford’s technology, eco-psychology, urbanization and accessible design. Throughout this 2-day conference, I experienced detailed information regarding Ford’s efforts in areas of automotive sustainability, virility & beyond. During day one, we were filled to the brim with knowledge in 90-minute sessions featuring Adrian Grenier (from HBO’s Entourage), Christian Siriano (from Bravo’s Project Runway) and more!

In addition to learning in a classroom setting, Ford took the fun outside with amazing experiences including dinner & frolicking at Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions), D-I-Y FUN at Techshop Detroit and road racing at the Ford Test Track.

All in all, it was an amazing experience that enlightened me on all the behind efforts that goes into developing the next generation of Ford vehicles for years to come!

Customize Your Summer In The City With The Toyota Prius C!

June 27th, 2012 by Christen

We take “Fun” SERIOUSLY…

On June 21st & 22nd – bloggers, readers & friends embarked on a Summertime journey to take on Coney Island and Six Flags Great Adventure theme park. Driving the 2013 Toyota Prius C… This is our #ToyotaFun story…

TOYOTA FUN at Coney Island

TOYOTA FUN at Coney Island

Thursday’s heatwave continued with highs in the 90’s and there was no better place to be than the beach! The Toyota Prius C tossed up great gas mileage in the city (up to 53 mpg) while coasting on the highway was comparable with up to 47 mpg.

Waking bright & early, there were only a few things on Friday’s agenda… fun, Fun and more FUN! Hopping in the ‘Habanaro’ colored Prius C was surprisingly quick, easy and fun! See, you had myself (a 5’10”, long-legged driver) alongside three passengers of all widths, sizes & lengths fit comfortably inside of a compact city hybrid – that just doesn’t happen (outside of television commercials anyways…)

While en route to the New Jersey Turnpike – headed to Six Flags, the real Prius C lessons were learned by drivers’ trial & error.

LESSON 1: Explaining to an State Trooper that you’re driving over the speed limit because you’re odometer is in KMH vs MPH won’t save you from a ticket.

I did not, (I repeat) DID NOT get caught speeding by a New Jersey State Trooper. However, driving at 220 KMH while trying to convert KMH to MPH is asking for a speeding ticket & one way ticket to jail. Somehow, I’d been driving the first full day in KMH but after realizing that the Prius C has an abundance of customization in it’s dashboard system, pressing & holding the “Trip” button on the steering wheel made it easy to switch from KMH to MPH (of course having that option is cool simply because you never know when you’ll need to monitor your KMH speeds in the US…LOL).

LESSON 2: LIFE IS BETTER WHEN IT’S ENTUNE…
From searching for a local Chick Fil La to listening to Pandora stream though your car speakers, Toyota’s Entune system let’s you connect with your vehicle in a whole new way.

LESSON 3: A TECHIE’S DREAM HYBRID…
The Prius c comes decently equipped with features you might not expect in a sub-$20,000 car, including Bluetooth, hill start assist and USB inputs. With a 3.5-inch screen that serves as your control center in the instrument panel, it depicts the typical trip computer that hybrid drivers will recognize, including a graphic to show whether your driving style is using engine power or electric power, or if it’s recharging the battery. The Prius c also features a new driving “score” to show how efficiently you’re driving.

All in all, the experience opened our eyes to the efficiency, style & the fact that owning a small compact hybrid like the Toyota Prius C doesn’t limit your adventures, it actually allows you to create new ones that perfectly fit you!

Divas Drive In Heels: Get Electric On The Road With The Chevy Volt!

June 18th, 2012 by Christen

There’s just something about a sleek driving vehicle that saves you money at the pump that makes it difficult to look at it as just another car. The 2012 Chevy Volt is by far from, just another car. While traveling to Philadelphia, PA for the annual Blogging While Brown conference this month, I was able to get a full Chevy Volt experience from the inside out.

Chevy Volt in Philadelphia

I was parking spot pimpin on the streets of Downtown Philadelphia, PA in search of the perfect Philly Cheesesteak…YUM.

In general, the Volt gives you an everyday car vibe, with perks! As 2011’s North American Car of the year, the Chevy Volt triumphs in the glory of gas-less driving. You can literally plug in the vehicle, charge the battery and commute gas-free for about $1.50 of electricity per day. (That’s less than a Venti White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks!)

CHEVY Volt Battery vs gas

The Volt gives you the power of electricity with the option of gas…(Do not Twitpic & drive. That’s what the passenger is for… ;)

The driving experience while in electric mode is absolutely unmatched! When I say this vehicle is quiet… you can hear a pin drop louder than you could, starting the engine. The inside of the Chevy Volt has a style of its’ own as well, reminiscent of a sci-fi spaceship scene, the two 7-inch diagonal LCD screens offer as much information via OnStar as is does diagnostic updates for the vehicle. While it’s easy to identify how many miles you have remaining until it’s time to charge the Volt or fill up the gas tank, it wasn’t as easy to operate the button-full entertainment console. With multiple options for navigation, entertainment control and climate control – making any changes while driving was a NO NO. Many of the buttons were too close to each other, making it difficult to determine if I was turning down the air-conditioner or changing the XM station. As long as you make any necessary changes while parked, you’re good to go.

20120619-003031.jpg

Some of the key standard tech features include:

7″ LCD touch screen and digital reconfigurable

7″ LCD instrument (entertainment) cluster

Remote car starter system

Keyless ignition/ push button start

Bose Energy Efficient sound system with six speakers & a subwoofer

Stereo with timeshift function, USB port and auxiliary input jack

30GB hard disk drive for digital music

XM Radio

OnStar

OnStar in the Chevy Volt

OnStar knew how to point me in the right direction when it was time to charge up the Chevy Volt!

Driving in the Chevy Volt was smooth sailing on the road. As a leader in the electric and Hybrid arena, Volt stands out among it’s competitors. The Volt unlike other electric vehicles isn’t restricted to and electric motor powered by rechargeable battery packs. Competitors like the Nissan Leaf have limitations when it comes to long range trips. The Volt has a gas-powered, range-extending generator that kicks in once your electricity has tapped out. Giving you peace of mind on the road, just in case you’re not ready to pull over and recharge just yet.

Charge and go with any Charge Point location and the Chevy Volt
