Prince To Close Out SXSW With Samsung And You Could Be There Too
March 12th, 2013 by ChristenYou’ve heard the rumors and we can finally confirm that it’s TRUE. SXSW will get a dose of purple rain, in the form of Prince Rogers Nelson. Today Samsung confirmed that Prince will perform at its Saturday night closing party.
Prince SXSW

“Having Prince in Austin at his first SXSW show will truly be a one night only experience that our Samsung Galaxy owners and friends will remember for years to come,” Todd Pendleton, Samsung’s chief marketing officer.
Among Samsung’s digital activations is a popular battery swap where people could tweet #PowerOn and their location to @SamsungMobileUS to receive a new fully charged battery from a bike messenger. At the company’s main daytime lounge — Samsung Galaxy Experience (open 12 to 6 p.m.) — people could make personalized T-shirts and buttons using the S Note. A Music Hub station allows guests to try Music Hub, listen to SXSW artists on it and S Beam songs to their devices.
While the private Saturday night show will wrap up Samsung’s heavy #TheNextBigThing tech and entertainment presence at SXSW, it will be tied to its TecTile Wall initiative in which owners of NFC-enabled Galaxy devices could tap tiles to unlock rewards. Want to see Prince LIVE? Samsung will choose 250 TecTile Wall participants to attend the intimate show. If you’re in Austin, you may want to get out there and start using those TecTile walls today.
Prince caps off Samsung’s busy week of musical acts that spans Interactive, Film and Music, including The Roots, Band of Horses, Talib Kweli, and Mayer Hawthorne. With the Samsung Unpacked 2013 event taking place this Thursday, it’s safe to say that this week has already been Samsung’s Best Week Ever!
iHeartRadio App Music Festival (Live From Las Vegas)
September 24th, 2012 by ChristenOver the weekend, tons of music’s biggest acts took centerstage during iHeartRadio’s Music Festival in Las Vegas. Acts including artists like Mary J. Blige, Usher, Rihanna, Lil Wayne and more descended upon Las Vegas for the concert of the summer. The two-day concert on Friday and Saturday night was off the charts. The stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was tight with musical acts that encompassed every genre. Fans were introduced to music, acts were full of energy and then there was Pink who was flying again. Prince was in the building. Mary J Blige gets the biggest compliment of the weekend bringing out and singing with the legend. The performance was tight, fun and frankly shocking. Who could have asked for more?

iHeartRadio is a free, all-in-one digital radio service that lets you find more than 1,500 Live Stations or create commercial-free, all-music Custom Stations featuring songs from the artist you select and similar music.

VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
December 20th, 2011 by WAWALast night, VH1 Divas aired and it was a star studded event! The night honored Divas of Soul and soul cities such as Detroit, Memphis, Chicago, Philly and even honored the UK’s soulful sounds. I enjoyed the fact that the show honored artists like Amy Winehouse, Adele, Marsha Ambrosious and other soulful UK artists whose vocals have impacted soul music.
The show opened with JHud, Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blige. Their performance set the standard for the night and this was honestly one of the most amazing shows I’ve seen on television all year.
Other performers of the night included Erykah Badu, Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine, Jessie J (British soul singer who became a household name after she performed on the VMAs), Jill Scott, Chaka Khan, Estelle, Black Thought, Boyz II Men, Travie McCoy, Sharon Jones, Martha Reeves, Mavis Staples and tons of other great artists.
Good moments from the show included the amazing duets, including MJB and Chaka Kahn singing “Aint Nobody”, Erykah Badu, Black Thought and Jill Scott performing “You Got Me” and Ledisi and Marsha Ambrosious performing “Sweet Love”.
Bad Moments from the night included, legend Wanda Jackson singing a duet with Sharon Jones for the Amy Winehouse tribute. Poor Ms. Jackson didn’t know half of the words and performed in a half-hazard manner. Their performance was reminiscent of a geriatric talent show in my own opinion :/.
And Ugly Moments from the night included Estelle and Travie McCoy singing “Wake Up Everybody”. I’m sure everyone can agree that when Travie McCoy began singing in an off-tune note, coupled with Estelle’s raspy, inconsistent voice, it created an awkward and uncomfortable sound for everyone’s ears.
Nonetheless, the overall show was simply amazing and a great treat for the holidays! I highly suggest watching the encore performances on VH1!
