CES 2012: Clash Of The Tablets (Which One Is Best For You?)

January 18th, 2012 by Christen

The tablet market continues to grow by leaps and bounds this year, and many new versions were introduced last week at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Some innovations to the tablet are major. Fujitsu’s tablet can be fully submerged in water for up to 30 minutes without any damage, while Lenovo’s tablet can easily be converted into a laptop with double the battery life.  Looking for the Tablet best suited for you and your life?  Check out a few that caught our eye and discover which tablet is best for you!

5.  Fujitsu Arrows

Fujitsu Arrows: 1GHz dual core device running a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset along with 1GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch 1280x800 pixel touchscreen.

Fujitsu Arrows 10.1-inch tablet, running on Android, can survive a dip in water—and full submersion for up to 30 minutes. The built-in camera can recognize hand gestures for operation even without directly touching the screen. As a result, smooth operation of the tablet PC is possible when preparing food and the user’s hands are not clean, or even when in the bathtub and user’s hands are wet.It has not yet been released in America, but it is being sold in Japan. For more on the Fujitsu Arrows, click HERE.

4.  Lenovo Yoga

Yoga is similar to Intel's ultrabook specs being sub-18mm thick, featherlight, and has an Intel Core CPU, and can take up to 8GB of RAM.

Yoga was that it was a fairly standard Lenovo ultrabook, that was until I saw its party trick, which saw the Yoga’s screen folding all the way back on itself to convert into Windows 8 tablet. Folding a notebook PC screen all the way back felt plain wrong and I was waiting to hear the sound of snapping plastic but as a tablet the Yoga felt great in hand and was very light to carry.  For more on the Lenovo Yoga, click HERE.

3.  Sony Tablet S

The wedge shaped design and 9.4 inch touch screen makes the Sony Tablet S one of the most comfortable tablets ever held...

With two big bonuses outweighing the other tablets on this list….1.  Flash enabled and 2. The 9.4″ touch screen, Wi-Fi®, universal IR remote, latest Android™ platform, Sony Entertainment Network with Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and games for PS Certified devices.  For more on the Sony Tablet S, click HERE.

2.  Toshiba Excite X10

With the Excite X10, Toshiba is trying to have it all. The company claims that the Excite is the “world’s thinnest” 10.1-inch tablet, but it also wants to be the most accessible.

The Excite, a 10-inch Android tablet, is .3 inches thick and weighs 1.2 lbs. The screen supports a 1280 x 800 resolution and is coated with an anti-smudge surface. Inside, the tablet is running a 1.2 GHz dual-core Texas Instruments CPU and 1GB of RAM. It’s yet to be determined if the Android OS will be Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich.  For more on the Excite X10, click HERE.

1.  Samsung Galaxy Note

Samsung Galaxy Note runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), has a 1280×800 pixel Super AMOLED screen, runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and has an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

It’s pretty much a tablet in terms of size, and it runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), a version of Android built for smartphones. But in my mind its more of a smaller tablet than a larger smartphone. For more on the Galaxy Note, click HERE.

These tablets definitely caught my attention during my time at CES – I’m looking forward to bringing you a detailed user experience with the Sony Tablet S fairly soon.  The good people over at Sony provided me with a Sony Tablet S to play with and I’ll be bringing you a play-by-play experience on the device soon…stay tuned…

Have you considered other tablets on the market?  Which tablet would you prefer?

Kicking my Las Vegas and CES experience off right, my first CES soiree was hosted by Clever Girls Collective and Beth Blecherman of TechMamasLadies Who Tech Happy Hour which took place at the ultra luxurious Wynn/Encore hotel. An evening filled with appetizing snacks and delectable drinks, I got the chance to catch up with some of my old friends and met some new ones as well. Event sponsors were also on hand to talk about the fabulous goodies provided in our giftbags including a new Sony Bloggie Live video camera and a Kingston Wi-Drive.

With all the excitement in the air and the abundance of women who tech in the building, we all were graced with the presence of Project Runway Season 9 winner Anya Ayoung Chee, who joined the event behalf of HP and Intel. Vegas vs CES 2011 in Seconds (Video)

January 14th, 2011 by Christen

Time flies when you’re having fun and CES 2011 in Las Vegas flew by quick!  As a quick recap, I learned about many things while in Vegas and have created this TOP 10 List to accompany my CES 2011 Experience – So check it out!!! ;)

THINGS I LEARNED IN VEGAS

10.  AT&T Service in Vegas is shakier than a hooker in church!

9.  The Blackberry Playbook allows you to sync your Blackberry Pin and chat on the device for easier multi-tasking.

8.  The audio headphone game has gone from non-existant to a big *&#*! deal! (Monster Cable vs JVC)

7.  There are some cool tech chicks in the media and technology industry. (Shoutout to @jess_benton & @LittleTechGirl)

6.  The AVN (Adult Porn Convention) is during the same time as CES – (Nerds + Porn Stars + Vegas = Chaos!)

5.  Andy Dick, Wil.I.am, Lady Gaga & Camillionaire  are major CES tech nerds.

4.  New Millenium geeks party waaaaaay harder than I saw in “Revenge of the Nerds”

3.  @DivasandDorks looks so much better in 3D (*shameless plug*)

2.  What happens in Vegas, usually ends up on Twitter.  LOL

1.  I’m officially addicted to collecting Foursquare badges…so much so that I went on a 2-hour check-in hunt for the coveted CES badge. (Thanks @jasonlanderson)

CES 2011: D&D Best of CES (PT.2)

*** CES 2011: D&D BEST OF CES PART II  ***

Part II is here! We’ve scoured the convention floor, interviewed tons of product press and added to our complete list of news-worthy gadgets featured at CES in Las Vegas.

CAMERA CATEGORY

Sony Bloggie 3D

The Sony Bloggie 3D — the world’s first affordable 3D cam — is one of the most impressive gadgets we’ve seen on the CES showroom floor. The $250 cam packs two lenses and you can record up to four hours of 2D video with 8GB of internal memory. In addition to a flip-out USB arm, the Bloggie 3D camera has pre-installed software so can easily tag your memories for easy uploading to sites such as YouTube™, Facebook® and Personal Space by Sony.

ACCESSORY CATEGORY

Victoria by NOVERO

The beautiful handcrafted Victoria Pearl by Novero is something that you would expect to see inside a jewelry exhibit – not the Consumer Electronics trade show and that’s exactly why it made our Best of CES list!  As a symbol of solid German engineering fused with traditional craftmanship, the Victoria Pearl doubles as a beautiful necklace and a state of the art bluetooth / hands-free device.

AUTO CATEGORY

Ford Focus Electric

The Focus Electric is the first car to be unveiled by a major auto manufacturer at CES and Ford’s first electric car.  In addition to an impressive MPG vs Chevy’s Volt and the aeronautic design…this Focus is environmentally stylish.  The Focus Electric uses about two pairs of blue jeans (in recycled denim form) within each of its models.  (“Ford Gets Fashionable With Denim”)

CES 2011: D&D Best of CES

January 12th, 2011 by Christen

The Consumer Electronics Show brought out some heavy hitters in Vegas last week!  Some ordinary and others extraordinary! We’ve scoured the convention floor, interviewed tons of product press and established a complete list of our choice of news-worthy gadgets featured at CES.  Check out a few of the BEST OF CES picks below and let us know what you think!

TABLET CATEGORY

Motorola Xoom

As expected, CES was a tablet oasis with releases from Blackberry, LG, Motorola and more!  But no other tablet surprised us as a serious Apple iPad contender as the Motorola Xoom (pronounced Zoom).  The Xoom out performs the iPad in some ways–it comes standard with front- and rear-facing cameras, including one that can record in HD, compared with none in the current version of the iPad. It also has a larger screen with a higher resolution, supports Adobe Flash, and uses Verizon’s network instead of AT&T’s.

——————————————————————

SMARTPHONE CATEGORY

LG Optimus Black

LG’s Optimus Black’s 4-inch “NOVA” display boasts 700 nits of brightness, which LG claims makes it the brightest and clearest display on the market. The company even placed it next to an iPhone 4 to compare it with the Retina display, and the difference blew us away!  Other features of the phone include a 5-megapixel camera and the “world’s first” 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The device also has Wi-Fi with portable hot-spot capability, Dolby mobile, quad-band GSM, and tri-band UMTS.  The Optimus black is the ultimate status symbol and it’s sleek, sophisticated design is sure to get the “nods up” from other CES attendees as well! Life’s Good.

——————————————————————

TELEVISION CATEGORY

Samsung D8000 Plasma TV

The Samsung D8000 plasmas are all new inside and out with new cosmetics, with better performance and new and unique Internet connectivity. The best kept secret at the CES is the new 8000 series plasmas (and 8000 LED LCD models too) will be able to connect to your subscribed cable channels and services  (later this year) without a cable box if you’re a Time Warner Cable , Comcast Xfinity or a Verizon FIOS customer, something we have been waiting for since flat panel TVs arrived.  Complete with second generation LCD screen remote control that allow you to view the same program or a different one at the same time it also comes with rechargeable 3D glasses for your viewing pleasure.

——————————————————————

LAPTOP CATEGORY

Samsung 9 Series

This Samsung Series 9 laptop caught our eye at CES 2011 with a sleek design including a brushed black lid that gives the Series 9 a look that’s sexier than the MacBook Air. Wait, A PC that can rival the MacBook Air? We think so. Samsung’s 9 Series 13.3-inch laptop isn’t only 2.89-pounds and .68-inches thin — it’s got a Sandybridge Intel Core i5 processor, 128GB SSD, and a bright 300nit display. It’s one beautiful system, and if the final unit can last longer than five hours on a charge it’s a winner in our book.

WHEW!  If you think that was something – Check back for Part II of our BEST OF CES picks tomorrow!

Apple: “We Don’t Need CES!”

January 6th, 2011 by Christen

::LIVE FROM CES:: (Las Vegas, NV) – Okay, No Apple didn’t say that per se…but they are noticeably absent front the mp3 player and tablet arena at CES 2011.  The Apple iPad was on the top of everyone’s Christmas list, is still the #1 selling tablet on the market and ultimately is holding the tablet market “by the balls”…well there’s no wonder why Apple is doing their own thing on their own terms.  There’s no stopping the iPad runaway train either, here are three top stories further solidifying the Apple stock:

New York City public schools have ordered over 2,000 iPads, for $1.3 million. (LINK)

iPads are appearing as the menu at restaurants all across the US. (LINK)

Gorillaz founders Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewitt got together to make a 15-track album on an iPad which they then released for free to fan club members last month. (LINK)

The Apple iPad is on the same route as the iPod upon its initial inception, it’s becoming a cultural necessity and upon the release of the Ipad 2 (**COMING THIS SPRING**) there’s no telling how far this brand is going to go…just know I’m #TEAMIPAD all the way!

So Kodak Upgrade w/Easy Share

January 5th, 2011 by Christen

:: LIVE FROM CES :: (Las Vegas, NV) – Kodak has done it again with these “SO KODAK” additions (just in time for Summer!)  This week Kodak announced it’s newest additions to the So Kodak family which include several cameras and camcorders.

The Easyshare mini camera is Kodak’s tiniest camera to date!  It’s about the size of a credit card and packs all the fun & options of a big boy camera.  It has a 3x zoom lens and my favorite feature – a built-in front mirror for those divalicious self shot pics (you know, the same way you get your view from your camera phone, you get it on this Easyshare mini….with better picture quality!)

The Kodak Playfull camcorder features a sleek and ultraslim design with a 1080p capture mode and a share feature.  Just like its predecessors – just press the “share” button and you can upload your video to Twitter, Facebook or YouTube!

The newest Playsport video camera is waterproof!!! Yes waterproof!  Its a great camera and after recording your underwater antics you can upload your video as easy as before with the easyshare button!

What else could you possibly want? Another So Kodak Experience?  STAY TUNED…
