News One Now: Four Gadgets From CES Any Techie Would Love

January 12th, 2015 by Christen

The 2015 International CES was the largest and most amazing CES in show history, breaking all records as innovators across the show floor unveiled technology services that will solve world problems and improve lives. The 2015 CES wrapped as the largest show in history with more than 2.2 million net square feet of exhibit space featuring more than 3,600 exhibitors, including a record number of startups. Innovators showcased the latest across categories like automotive electronics, personalized health care solutions, unmanned vehicles, connected devices, 3D printers, gaming and more.

CES is the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technology and this year more than 170,000 industry professionals, including more than 45,000 from outside the U.S. convened at the only event of its kind to engage in the hands-on experience of interacting with the next generation of technology.

After exploring thousands of innovative products, I’ve narrowed it down to my favorite four gadgets from CES that any techie would love below:

Samsung TV

The Samsung 105” super ultra high def TV stole the show hands down.  It’s the world’s first and largest HDTV that curves at the touch of a button. For such a novel TV, Samsung put out all the stops, including 4K resolution, quantum-dot technology for improved color and its Tizen-powered smart-TV platform.  There is no price or ship date yet, although last year’s model cost about $260,000.

Get Inside The Cars Of The Future Today At CES 2015 #CES2015

January 9th, 2015 by Christen

What’s the next huge leap in technology for automakers ?  Connectivity, Gesture-Control and Car sharing!  Auto insiders and journalists got a sneak peek at what’s to come with a previewing cars of the future today at CES 2015.  Just one small preview has opened the floodgates of what we could possibly expect next week at the North American International Auto show and more major announcements later this year.  But for now, let’s take a look at which major brands are making blazing their way through advancements and beyond below:

samsung

BMWS OF THE FUTURE WILL HAVE SAMSUNG TABLETS AND GESTURE CONTROL

BMW showed off a couple near-future technologies that’ll be available on cars in the next few years. The first doesn’t really sound futuristic at all — it’s just a generic Samsung tablet, but the magic is in how tightly BMW’s managed to integrate it with the car’s systems. The “Touch Command” system includes the small Android tablet and a dock in the rear seat, allowing rear passengers to change climate settings, switch radio stations, adjust their seats, and more — in other words, it’s basically a portable iDrive controller for when you’re getting chauffeured around. [Read More.]

Hyundai Blue Link Smartwatch App

HYUNDAI WILL LET YOU START YOUR CAR WITH AN ANDROID WEAR WATCH

The app gives drivers the ability to access remote vehicle operations right from their wrists, such as starting and stopping the engine, locking and unlocking the doors, and activating safety features like flashing the headlights or honking the horn. Users will be able to locate their car or call roadside assistance from the app as well. [Read More.]

Mercedes

The F 015 Luxury in Motion — yes, “Luxury in Motion” is part of the car’s name — is basically a sleek pod with a huge passenger compartment, a fortuitous side effect of an imagined future where we spend most of our times chilling out in cars while they drive us around all by themselves. Mercedes actually calls the cabin “lounge-like,” thanks to four rotating seats that can face each other. [Read More.]

Stylish Wearables Rocked The Runway At WebMD’s FashionWare Show #CES2015

January 8th, 2015 by Tech Staff

CES 2015 is winding down, but no CES show would be complete without the stylish runway preview known as FashionWare. During WebMD’s FashionWare Show at CES 2015, models wearing high-tech products aimed for the stylish strutted down the catwalk on a crowded Las Vegas convention center stage. From jackets with built in GPS to LED-lit dresses that show your latest tweets, the tech world is trying its hardest to be fashionable.

CES Fashionware 5

The MeU display is built into the vest and can send messages, show logos and feature LED messages (for promotional use of course!)

The fashion show, which was hosted by Project Runway alum Nick Verreos, highlighted both eye-popping and conspicuous wearable technology, like a belt with hidden phone chargers and pieces from the Misfit Swarovski fitness tracker collection that counts your steps.

CES Fashionware 4

This dress syncs up with your smartphone and displays incoming call alerts, social media alerts and other messages directly on the embedded screen.

CES Fashionware 6

This one-sleeved dress displays a falling pedal animation. While there isn’t much use for having a display like this on a dress, it’s all about personalization and adding personality to what you’re wearing.

CES Fashionware 2

The XOO Belt is a high-end accessory that charges your smartphone and other gadgets. It was designed in collaboration with British fashion house Casely-Hayford, a favorite brand of celebrities like David Beckham and Benedict Cumberbatch.

CES Fashionware1

This dress is color sensitive. By touching any color to a sensor trigger at the top of the dress, the LED lights (which cascade across the fabric) change.  While some of the ensembles on the catwalk were in the flashy spirit of the fashion world, and not for casual everyday use, Verreos believes technology will come to clothing in a subtle, useful way.

“Fabrics will eventually become high tech, too; a sweatshirt could become warmer and thicker in the cold and then lighter when you want it to,” Verreos said. “You could control all of that by an app. There are all types of wearables that could really impact fashion.

What do you think? In what ways would you like to see technology influence fashion (or vice versa)?  Share your thoughts on these designs and your ideas on what fashionable tech means to you below.

Connected Cars RULE At CES 2015 #CES2015

January 7th, 2015 by Tech Staff

One thing that’s sure to be a big hit at this year’s CES 2015 and upcoming North American International Auto Show is the innovative upswing in connected cars.  Automakers and brands did not hesitate to share the latest innovation and features that next generation vehicles will have available sooner than later.  After introducing the new iteration of its Smart car platform, Sync 3, last month, Ford mainly looked at the big picture today, discussing the ways cars would collect data in future to adapt to road conditions, help find parking and customize insurance for drivers.

BMW showed off new touchscreen and gesture controls for its iDrive interface, while Pioneer joined the fray with the next generation of its NEX series in-dash multimedia receivers, featuring Android Auto integration. Parrot also promised Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in any car with its new RNB 6.

After driving its autonomous car from San Francisco to CES, Audi used its presser to herald the future of driverless cars (even calling one on stage with a smartwatch) before moving on to the new Q7 featuring Android Auto and an Audi Tablet to control interior features.

Mercedes Benz unveiled the beautifully futuristic F015 Luxury in Motion “car of the future”. The spacious silver bullet of a body was remarkably open inside, with rotating chairs for passengers that made it more akin to a futuristic lounge room than a car.  The futuristic driving experience is here and now and will be rolling off assembly lines before we know it.

FashionWare and MommyTech in the TechZone CES 2014

January 8th, 2014 by Nicole
The Consumer and Electronics Show (CES) 2014, taking place now until this Friday, is in full affect this week in Las Vegas and we some goodies to show you.  For the fashion forward fashionista and tech savvy women, come see what we found being featured in the TechZone at CES.

 fashionware TechZone

Our world is being transformed by embedded and wearable technology where style, function, and tech intersect.  FashionWare is an all new lifestyle TechZone that is taking place at the 2014 CES.  The FashionWare will feature jackets that adjust based on outside temperature, solar-charging handbags, and health monitoring devices.  The event is topped off with an after party and live runway show on Thursday.

TechZone TechGloves“The fashion industry is a 972 billion dollar industry but it’s remained virtually unchanged, one of the last holdouts for incorporating high tech. That’s about to change. You’re about to witness a remarkable fashion show where high tech is integral to high fashion.”  source

Talking Fashion and tech and perfect for this cold weather, here are a perfect pair of winter gloves.  The U/R ‘Shorty’ Tech Gloves has a conductive palm that is tech-friendly for touch screens.

MommyTech – cool. calm. connected.

The Internet of Things, “a movement to create a world of Internet-connected smart products from coffee pots to key chains, will find its most lucrative audience in MommyTech, a focused lifestyle TechZone at CES.”

Tech savvy moms, who wear multiple hats in their life, and are the largest, fastest growing group of tech consumers, juggle multiple priorities.  To keep families connected and make the home more efficient, moms us their smart mobile devices.

On the agenda the MomTech Zone event will features devices like smart door locks, toothbrushes, wrist watches, smoke detectors, ovens, home security systems, garage doors, and toys all controlled by a smart mobile device.  The possibilities are endless.  your smart phone acts as the remote controls for these products, that can remotely lock doors, turn off lights, lower the garage door, or turn on the air conditioning.  No more stressing out, just quickly control the device.

TechZone NESTOne such device is the Nest Carbon Monoxide Detector.  This is no ordinary carbon monoxide detector.  “… it tells you where smoke is or when carbon monoxide levels are rising. This gives you an earlier warning if there’s an emergency, or allows you to silence Nest Protect if it’s just a nuisance alarm, like an overly enthusiastic toaster.”  source

The detector will send a message to your smartphone or tablet if the smoke or carbon monoxide detector goes off.

Let’s not forget the children in all this tech talk.  Samsung is teaming up with Fingerprint, a kid’s software provider to build a mobile kids app for Samsung mobile devices.  Called Samsung Kids Mobile Network powered by Fingerprint, the service will offer safe apps and games for kids’ ages 3 to 7, launches first quarter 2014.
