Blackberry Users: Get With Apple/Android or Get Lost!
August 31st, 2011 by Christen
Google and Apple continue to dominate the smartphone market, while RIM and Microsoft continue to slowly diminish.

According to new data from comScore, 82.2 million people in the U.S. owned a smartphone as of July 2011, a full 10% increase from April 2011. Google is the market leader with 41.8% market share (up from 36.4% in April), while Apple is number 2 with 27% market share (up from 26%).
News you can use:
RIM’s BlackBerry was the big loser, as its piece of the smartphone market dropped from 25.7% to 21.7% in just three months.
comScore also reports that 234 million Americans 13 and older use some type of mobile device, whether it’s a smartphone or not. Among the entire smartphone market, Samsung is the leader with a 25.5% share of U.S. mobile subscribers. While Apple is forth with 9.5% of the total market, an increase of 1.2% since April. RIM rounds out the top five at 7.6%.
Among these 234 million mobile Americans, more of them are using their phones for a variety of tasks. A full 70% of U.S. mobile subscribers are texting, up 1.2% from April. About 40% use their phones for web browsing (up 2%) and 40.6% have used a downloaded app (up 2.8%). Social networking (30.1%), playing mobile games (27.8%) and listening to music (20.3%) are all up as well.
If you’re still using a Blackberry for anything other than work-related emails (shame on you…) WHY?
First Look: New Blackberry Bold 9900
May 3rd, 2011 by Christen
Research In Motion is releasing a new version of one of its high-end BlackBerrys, updating the Bold with a touch screen and fresh software.

Research in Motion Ltd. is under pressure to update its high-end phones as it’s losing out to iPhones and phones running Google Inc.’s Android software. Last week, the company cut its earnings and sales forecasts for the current quarter, saying it’s selling fewer and cheaper phones than expected. Its stock plummeted.
Like the original Bold, launched in 2008, the 9900 has a keyboard under a 2.8-inch-screen in landscape orientation. It’s thinner than before, at just 10.5 millimeters, making it the thinnest BlackBerry yet.
Take a look at some images of the upcoming BlackBerry Bold 9900 (below), and visit BlackBerry.com to learn more about this device.
BlackBerry Playbook Blues…
April 18th, 2011 by Christen
So you didn’t get a Playbook? Or did you? The praises and complaints have been pouring in from across the web and from the looks of it, this Playbook isn’t getting very much “play” at all. Some of the complaints I’ve personally heard about we’re connectivity issues, home screen freezes and the ambiguous “It just doesn’t seem complete” argument. This is in addition to the obvious screen size and rumor of lacking APP power (only 3,000 apps will be available on the Playbook). So before you rush to order your BlackBerry Playbook on April 19th, heed a little warning…
Check out what some Blackberry & Rim enthusiasts are saying around the web:

Are You A Racial Smartphone Stereotype?
February 9th, 2011 by Christen

What kind of phone do you have? BlackBerry, iPhone, Droid? The latest Nielsen study shows that certain ethnicities are prone or drawn to certian phones while others are not. Here’s the highlights of the recent study:
Thirty-six percent of Asians with smartphones have iPhones, while 31 percent of African-Americans with smartphones go for a BlackBerry.
Asians, Hispanics and African-Americans are purchasing smartphones at higher rates than “Whites”–45 percent of Asians and Hispanics and 33 percent of African-Americans are smartphone users, while only 27 percent of Whites are.
While 60 percent of Asians, 56 percent of Hispanics and 44 percent of African-Americans purchasing phones in the past six months bought smartphones, only 42 percent of caucasian users did the same.

Wow. Well since I’m bi-cellular (don’t judge me)… I guess I fall into the non-black/non-asian category…just call me “Blasian” – it’s exotic! LOL

Which Smartphone are you?
September 24th, 2010 by ChristenIT’S ALMOST HERE…THE BLACKPAD!
September 22nd, 2010 by ChristenThe long-awaited iPad competitor will arrive as early as next week…The BlackPad. BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion will have a lot to prove if it releases a much-anticipated tablet PC. RIM has been losing ground in the smartphone arena that has been its traditional stronghold. Researcher Gartner predicts that phones running the BlackBerry operating system will account for 11.7% of the worldwide market by 2014, down from 17.5% this year. I’m a proud BlackBerry user…what about you?
