2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Show

The MTV Video Music Awards have come and gone, but not without an air of controversy, ratchetness and omnipotent Bey sightings.  If you’re like me and endured this year’s show in hopes of seeing Beyonce accept the coveted MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, then you know it was all worth it.   There were a few highlights of the VMA’s last night, and I’ve sprinkled a few of Beyonce’s opening act moments for your enjoyment below.

2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Show

Ariana Grande, Jesse J and Nicki Minaj kicked off the show with a medley of hits, Ariana Grande’s (aka Big Sean’s new boo) performed followed by a scandalous and booty-filled “Anaconda” performance by Nicki Minaj and then the heavily awaited performance of Jesse J’s “Bang Bang”.

The first award of the night went to Katy Perry (ft. Juicy J) for “Dark Horse” and then a few performance, awkward comedic monologues and epic crowd reaction side-eyes (Gwen Stefani and J.Lo – I’m looking at you…)

Even Taylor Swift got into the action performing “Shake it off” from her new album “1989” and Iggy Azelea and Rita Ora’s rendition of “Black Widow” had the crowd on it’s feet.

But nothing equalled to the moment we all waited for, the arrival of Beyonce’s earth-shaking and emotionally moving Video Vanguard Award performance.  Performing every single song from her self-titled album, Beyonce’ sang, danced and gave fans the best performance of the show.  Check out just a few award-winning moments from last night’s Video Music Awards below.

Spotify Predicts GRAMMY Winners

January 23rd, 2014 by Christen

Jay z beyonce concert

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards is just days away here in sunny LA and the anticipation for big performances and the big winners is growing with each passing day. Performances by Jay Z, Beyonce and Macklemore has already been confirmed, but now Spotify is once again getting into the mix by predicting this year’s Grammy winners!  In 2013, Spotify accurately projected that Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” would win the gilded gramophone for Record of the Year and that Mumford & Sons would take home the Album of the Year prize for “Babel.”  Spotify’s users have once again spoken and their streams have been tallied. The digital music service analyzed data on its top song and album streams to predict which nominees will win big at this Sunday’s highly anticipated GRAMMY Awards.

Key predictions include:

Record of the Year

1. Radioactive, Imagine Dragons

2. Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell

3. Locked out of Heaven, Bruno Mars

4. Royals, Lorde

5. Get Lucky, Daft Punk Feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers

Record of the Year: Radioactive (Imagine Dragons)

There were no blurred lines in this category – the hit from Imagine Dragons has one-third more streams than Robin Thicke’s summer smash, which came in second on Spotify.

Album of the Year

1. The Heist, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

2. Random Access Memories, Daft Punk

3. Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, Kendrick Lamar

4. Red, Taylor Swift

5. The Blessed Unrest, Sara Bareilles

Album of the Year: The Heist (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis)

The Heist has over 40 percent more streams than Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, and more than three times as many as the other three nominees combined.

Best New Artist

1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

2. Kendrick Lamar

3. Ed Sheeran

4. James Blake

5. Kacey Musgraves

Best New Artist: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

This pair is the clear favorite, beating Kendrick Lamar by 70 percent and fellow newcomer Ed Sheeran by nearly triple the number of streams.

Best Pop Solo Performance

1. Royals, Lorde

2. Mirrors, Justin Timberlake

3. Roar, Katy Perry

4. When I Was Your Man, Bruno Mars

5. Brave, Sara Bareilles

Best Pop Solo Performance: Royals (Lorde)

The race for Best Pop Solo is close, with Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors and Katy Perry’s Roar duking it out for second place.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

1. Get Lucky, Daft Punk Feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers

2. Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell

3. Just Give Me a Reason, Pink feat. Nate Ruess

4. Suit & Tie, Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z

5. Stay, Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: Get Lucky, Daft Punk Feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers

Daft Punk did get lucky with 20 percent more streams of this hit than runner-up Blurred Lines.

Swimsuits To Stilettos: Beyonce’s Teams With Stuart Weitzman and H&M

April 15th, 2013 by Christen

Beyonce Teams With Stuart Weitzman  H&M

From swimsuits, sodas and now stilettos, Beyonce is stating her claim as “Queen of Endorsements” as she’s made more headlines earlier today with her most recent collaborations with H&M and Stuart Weitzman.  H&M has debuted a few more shots from the “Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M” campaign. With perfectly-placed flowers in her hair, she models a variety of swimsuits that she herself helped design (that’ll be available in stores later next month.)

Weitzman has been designing shoes for the pop star for years, and she even testifies to having “literally danced a thousand miles in his beautiful shoes,” so the partnership should come as no surprise. For the latest set, the designer created Swarovski-encrusted stiletto pumps and military-inspired boots in both thigh-high and ankle versions.

Whether it’s bathing suits, custom Isabel Marant wedge sneakers or even cans of Pepsi, there’s not much this “Bow Down” singer couldn’t convince us to buy.  Are you ready for Beyonce’-mania or do you think she’s over-saturating your universe?

“I’m always bruised somewhere – my legs, my hips,”she says of the gruelling preparations that make for those spectacular shows. “But you’ve already started so you’ve just gotta fight through it.” –
Rumor has it that Mrs. Carter has secured the cover for V magazine but until the official cover photo is released we can only keep our fingers crossed that she can add that to her list of 2013 accomplishments.

Would You Walk A Mile In Jay Z and Beyonce’s Shoes?

February 27th, 2013 by Christen

Would you walk a mile in Jay Z and Beyonce’s shoes?  Thanks to PMK, you and your boo can wear the lavish sneakers created by power couple soon.  PMK is a favorite brand of Jay Z and his A-list, superstar wife Beyonce.  Jay Z had a shoe designed for him last year- the Brooklyn Zoo – by the brand. His pair was as lavish as any sneaker could be, with an endless roll call of reptile skins and embellished textures for your feet.

PMK said: ‘The Brooklyn Zoo 1’s cannot be tamed with an elaborate combination of elephant-print, ostrich, python, boa, crocodile, lizard, alligator, suede, and sting ray intricately cut to transform the Jordan 1 from a basketball sneaker into the world’s most daring and dapper sneaker concepts known to man.’

As Queen of the charts and one of the world’s most famous women, Beyonce’s taste in fashion was always going to be pretty lavish. But her new acquisition takes super-luxe fashion to a new level. The singer’s latest fashion folly is a pair of custom-made trainers, made for her by high end brand Perfectly Made Kicks using exotic animal skins. PMK handcrafted the sneakers for Beyonce to the singer’s exacting requirements using a mix of stingray, ostrich, calf’s fur, crocodile and anaconda skins.

Called The King-Bey, the shoes, which have been given Beyonce’s approval, are decorated with gold accents. The price is as yet undisclosed, but a regular pair sells in excess for $350+ so this embellished pair would obviously sell for a lot more.

Would you and your boo rock a pair of these kicks?  (Collectively they could cost you almost $1,000 to own both pair.)  For pricing and ordering information, visit

Inside the Grammys: Five Awards Categories to Take Notice

February 8th, 2013 by Lifestyle Staff

This week officially started the countdown to the 55th annual Grammy Award Show! Anticipation is an understatement for this event for several reasons. Two-time Grammy winner LL Cool J returns to host the ceremony, and performances from RihannaBruno MarsKelly ClarkstonFrank OceanAlicia Keys and more are among top reasons. Also along with Justin Timberlake‘s comeback performance and more Beyoncé – the Grammys has the right recipe for excitement and pure entertainment! The 16-time Grammy award winner will not only be a presenter this year, but also a performer which was recently announced after this past Bey Bowl.

As usual the Grammy’s will highlight several A-list celebrities and announce the most anticipated awards such as Record of the Year and Album of the Year. With all of this and more that is expected, here is a list of awards you should take notice of and get even more amped about the 2013 Grammy Awards Ceremony!

Every artist describes their first Grammy award as nothing less than the greatest moment of their career. In this category these artists have hopes for their first chance to experience that feeling. Among the nominated in this category is the R&B artist Frank Ocean with his debut album, Channel Orange. Despite the homophobic culture of the industry and his open confession of his same-sex love, his album was more than well received- landing him a nomination for this category.

michelle-obama-photo-platon-antoniouCan Michelle Obama be anymore awesome? Yes she can! Our First Lady, Michelle Obama has been nominated for the audio version of her book, “American Grown: The Story of The White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America”. This book is her first book that promotes her campaign against obesity highlighting the garden in the White House and several other gardens around the nation.

Success on success on success! Who says making people laugh can’t be notable?! The late night host, Jimmy Fallon, along with other great comics compete for a title that was recently reinstated in 2004 acknowledging some of history’s best such as Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, George Carlin and Chris Rock. Definitely a distinguishing and notable category!

Kelly Clarkson BW Photoshoot 2
This is clearly a great year for pop artist/American Idol Kelly Clarkson. From her performance during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration to her 2012 Greatest Hits: Chapter One album release, along with her nomination for her album titled “Stronger”(2011) and her performance at this year’s Grammy’s, let’s take notice.

At age 55 and with a 30 year career, the eight-time Grammy award winner/R&B icon Anita Baker adds this nomination to her 16-time Grammy nominated career. The single, “Lately”, which recently hit #1 on Billboards Adult R&B charts has outdone itself even topping Whitney Houston’s record for longest span of number one hits. Congratulations Anita Baker!
