Three Reasons To Love The LG G3 and LG Watch From AT&T

September 22nd, 2014 by Christen Rochon

LG
Did you attend the fashionably fun Relax, Renew and Recharge event during New York Fashion Week?  If you didn’t, then you missed out on some exciting smartphones and accessories from LG mobile.  During the event, we gave away THREE LG G Vista smartphones from AT&T and had the LG G3, the LG Watch and plenty of other smartphones on site for hands-on tweeting, selfies and more!

I got plenty of hands-on experience with the LG G3 and LG Watch and I can’t help to say, I’m in love!  There are several reasons why many consider LG G3 being on top of the list: excellent battery life, swift user interface and fantastic design. The device also comes with the following features: 5.5 inch, 16 GB / 32 GB version, 13MP camera and 3,000 mAh battery. This double duo of style and function is perfect for practically anyone.  Check out five reasons why I love the LG G3 and LG Watch from AT&T below.

But First, Let Me Take A Selfie

LG

Located above the display is a 2.1-megapixel camera for taking selfies.  The 2.1-megapixel shooter has two modes to make it easy to take selfies. The first detects an open hand, which you clench into a fist to start the countdown timer. This is particularly useful if you’re using a selfie stick, since you likely won’t be able to reach the phone to hit the shutter. Or if you like me and have super long arms, you can tap the screen to simply start a selfie countdown.  The front facing camera even comes with a blurring photo-editing feature that smooths out lines, wrinkles and fixes a flaw-filled selfie to perfection, every time.

Leave Your Money In Your Wallet With ISIS

LG

I’ve talked about the power of NFC technology before, I’ve used ISIS wallet with other smartphones and with Apple jumping on the NFC bandwagon with Apple Pay, smartphones are doubling use as credit cards like never before.  A simple tap of your smartphone at the register can now buy your coffee, lunch, movie tickets and more!  Who wouldn’t love the convenience of an alternate paying system while on the go?

[Must Read:  Pay And Go With Isis Mobile Wallet]

Want to buy lunch, but you’re still in the middle of drafting that email to your boss?  The LG G3 lets you use two apps in the same time with its Dual-Window functionality. Harness it by tapping and holding the ‘Back’ on-screen navigation key, or through the button in the task switching menu. Tap on the upper or lower side of the screen to choose which side the window goes to, then tap the app icons, or drag them up or down.

LG G Watch

LG

Who wants to press a button on their watch every time they need quick information? Not me!  That’s why I thoroughly enjoy the LG Watch with “Always On” technology powered by Android Wear.  Using the Google cards you know and love, this LG Watch has a simple new user experience which provides useful information on your wrist only when you need it.  Trying to figure out what time to leave the office to make it to your next appointment on time?  Once paired with the LG G3 device, the voice recognition feature intercepted text messages and alerts and let’s be honest, it’s overall a stylish piece a tech that any girl would want to add to her arsenal, right?

LG

Want to learn more?  The G3 is the perfect new gadget for “early adopter” types who want the latest and greatest without following the opinions of others.  If you’re looking for a powerful handset that’s beautiful and fits seamlessly into your stylish lifestyle you won’t be disappointed with LG’s latest in smartphone and wearable pairings.  Discover the LG G3 and G Watch available at AT&T today!

AT&T’s “It Can Wait” Annual Day of Action Is Today

September 19th, 2014 by Christen Rochon

September 19th marks the It CanWait annual day of action.  The campaign has inspired more than 5 million pledges to never text and drive and created several initiatives to dissuade texting and driving.  I’ve been very involved with this campaign since the inception back in 2012 and have tweeted, taken the pledge against texting while driving and even hosted an event (or two) promoting safe mobile use while on the road.

Recently AT&T has introduced a social tool, “#X”, that fits naturally into texting conversations. It means “I’m checking out while I drive.  Back soon.”  Its a great way to get the message across that you take safe driving seriously and has already impacted mobile conversations across the world.

In addition to the social tool, AT&T has also empowered Android and iPhone users by giving users 3-step instructions on how to create a shortcut text to use in communication before you drive.  No more awkward “Can’t text, I’m driving” texts, using the shortcut instructions your one step closer to sending less texts and spreading the message against texting while driving.

 It CanWait annual day

Today, AT&T and its supporters will continue to encourage the public to take the pledge to make a lifelong commitment to never text and drive.  In support of the campaign, Demi Lovato has created  this PSA to urge her fans to text or tweet #X prior to driving in order to alert their friends that they will be behind the wheel and unable to respond to incoming texts.

The “It Can Wait” campaign continues to encourage mobile users to practice safe texts while on the road and has an entire arsenal of tips and tools online to motivate users of all ages to take the pledge, get involved and share the message of safety with friends and family.

Every March, creatives of all stripes gather in Austin to witness, share and inspire the visions that will galvanize the filmmakers and ideas of tomorrow. SXSW Film Conference & Festival champions the vitality, innovation and opportunity that drives the entertainment and media landscape, and boldly tackles the evolution of all aspects of “film” today, down to its very definition.
A nexus of discovery and collaborative energy, SXSW Film celebrates the art and business of the possible.Winding down my SXSW experience, I got the chance to check out a variety of film screenings and premiers in Austin.  One of my favorite premieres had to be the family-friendly comedy… BAD WORDS.

SXSW Film Bad Words

Jason Bateman makes his directorial debut with the subversive comedy, BAD WORDS. Bateman stars as Guy Trilby, a 40-year old who finds a loophole in the rules of the National Quill Spelling Bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. Contest officials, outraged parents, and overly ambitious 8th graders are no match for Guy, as he ruthlessly crushes their dreams of victory and fame. As a reporter attempts to discover his true motivation, Guy finds himself forging an unlikely alliance with a competitor: awkward 10-year old Chaitanya (Rohan Chand of ‘Homeland’), who is completely unfazed by Guy’s take-no-prisoners approach to life.  The movie also stars Allison Janney, Kathryn Hahn and Phillip Baker Hall.  Check out some behind the scenes moments as we talk to the stars about SXSW, BAD WORDS the film and more.

March 12th, 2014 by Christen Rochon

Disclosure: As the author, I have been compensated to share experiences found throughout SXSW 2014 including unique AT&T SXSW activations in Austin however, all opinions are my own.

The 21st annual SXSW Interactive Festival returned to Austin and armed with the LG G Flex from AT&T, I uncovered some of best that the conference and Austin had to offer.

SXSW Interactive

The 21st annual SXSW Interactive Festival returned to Austin from Friday, March 7 through Tuesday, March 11. An incubator of cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity, the 2014 event featured five days of compelling presentations and panels from the brightest minds in emerging technology, scores of exciting networking events hosted by industry leaders and an unbeatable lineup of special programs showcasing the best new websites, video games and startup ideas the community has to offer.

From hands-on training to big-picture analysis of the future, SXSW Interactive has become the place to preview the technology of tomorrow today. SXSW 2014 was huge!  From the sessions, the networking, the evening events, the 17th Annual SXSW Interactive Awards, SXSW Accelerator, the SXSW Gaming Expo, the SXSW Trade Show, SXSW Create, the Digital Creative Job Market, cross-industry conversations with attendees from SXSW Film and SXSW Music, and, most of all, the unforgettable inspirational experiences that only SXSW can deliver.  I had a great time uncovering what Austin had to offer during SXSW Interactive and I can’t wait to see what’s next during SXSW Film and SXSW Music.

Moto X – The Underrated “Mid-Range” Phone [Review]

November 6th, 2013 by Analie

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Motorola Google Company LogoIt’s been a while with the Moto X and now I’m ready to talk about it. Let me say that I was one of the first naysayers (not aloud though) that thought, not that the phone would fail but that it would have regular sales. In my mind I thought that was great for Motorola. Due to the less than stellar specs on paper, I didn’t see why this phone would be  a big seller or the popular kid on the block. I knew it would be good for those fashionably efficient consumers. I told you about it back then HERE.

I’m glad to say that I was wrong. Terribly wrong. Let me start off with the ordering process. I shop online often so I didn’t think I was going to get excited about placing another online order. It’s like shopping for shoes or a dress. Pick a couple of colors and a size, a few clicks and boom. But here’s what reeeallly happened. I sat there for about an hour contemplating all these color combinations. I didn’t know what to do. There doesn’t seem to be many options, but trust me there are more than enough. I can promise you that if you’re looking for a new phone and you take a visit to the Moto Maker site, even if you’re not planning on getting a Moto X, you might think twice about it and you also will have some fun with color combinations (there are some exceptions to that of course).

The Moto Maker is exclusive to AT&T right now. You can try the Moto Maker by Motorola here.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Motorola Google Company -MotoMaker - Moto-Maker

Without your personal touches, the Moto X isn’t loud or obnoxious. It’s has a nice screen size, a comfortable curved design and simplistic on all counts. When choosing colors, you can go as crazy or simple as you want. But I found it nice from Motorola how they had it so simple.

I guess they were trying to go simple with the specs too. Nothing too crazy, won’t scare the normal consumer and speak in a language consumers understand. That’s how I took it anyway, talk about easy notifications, a quick way to activate the camera, and representation of yourself on your smartphone’s design.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie (6)

Look and Feel

I actually ordered my phone with a violet backside, and it came pink. That was the one time I didn’t want a pink phone (oh life’s ironies). I contacted Motorola’s Moto x support ASAP and they were beyond helpful with beginning the process of returning the phone. I decided not to return the phone and stay with the pink Moto X. Just keep in mind that I contacted them the same day, your order and return experience may be different due to timing and situation details).

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie (4)

I obviously like the look of the phone since it’s in one of my favorite colors, (pink back side, white front and red accents). Girly phone all the way. There is no branding on the front of the phone. I didn’t realize how nice that would be.

The phone feels great in hand. Not too heavy and the curves fall into all the right places of my palm.

Display

The Moto X has great viewing angles. Something I didn’t expect from this phone since the display is 720P. So that is also great. The display has rich and crisp color. I have to use the display at a brighter setting than I use other Android phones, but that’s no biggie.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie - Active Display (4)

Software Experience

Now, don’t get upset with me Android fans, but it has been a while since I have used stock Android (Nexus devices, Google edition phones). All I kept thinking when I started using the Moto X was: “Wow, that’s smooth!” The fluidity of the Moto X (near stock) Android Jelly Bean 4.2 (let’s hear it  for the Android 4.4 KitKat update that’s coming–woohoo) OS was great. I forgot what it was like to have the lag of bloatware. It’s not that I hate Android skins, I guess I didn’t miss them.

Moto X Features

What I mean by near stock, is that the Moto X has a few tweaks from Motorola’s notifications, a few customization features that  differentiate it from stock Android. Like many out there, my fave feature was the Active Display. Motorola is breaking new ground with this Active Display. It’s by far one of the most innovative features I’ve seen. It really makes your smartphone, well, smart.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie - Active Display (5)

Active Display on the Moto X

For those who don’t know what Active Display is, it’s basically a way of your Moto X showing you notifications only when you need them. How does it do that? When you pull the phone out of your pocket, it shows you icons for the notifications you have right by the “unlock” lock.  To preview the notifications you tap the icons. You can swipe unlock the notifications. If you have multiple notifications, you get to unlock the latest ones.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie - Active Display (1)

You don’t have to worry about Active Display killing your battery life, since Active Display isn’t on when in your pocket, when the Moto X is faced down and when on a call. I thought that was all babble, but battery life has been great with Active Display.

Motorola assist main moto x

Motorola Assist

This is Motorola’s version of “Profiles” but heightened. I didn’t get to use these often, but when I did, I had a new found appreciation for the “Assistant”. I love her. She can help me anytime. Motorola Assist takes Touchless Controls to a whole new level. For example, it recognizes when you’re driving and alerts you of incoming calls and messages. It even asks you if you’d like to pick up the phone. Needless to say I was feeling all special and high class. That’s great coming from an inexpensive “mid-range” phone. Don’t worry, it won’t read all your messages out loud. You can choose what notifications you;d like.

Moto X Camera

Most of you already heard about the Moto X Quick Capture feature for the camera. It requires twisting your wrist a couple of times to open the camera app. You then touch the screen to take a pic (hold down the touch to take multiple pictures).

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie (3)

The camera quality on the Moto X was poor at first, but Motorola sent a software update quickly to fix that. The pictures aren’t the best on the Moto X, but for what I use them for (mostly social media sites), they are perfectly fine. The Moto X did surprisingly well in low-light settings (must be that ClearPixel technology they were talking about). Took me a while to get used to swiping from the left to get the menu and swiping from the right to get to the gallery though (just a minor learning curve). I found myself trying to activate other phones with Quick Launch maneuver. Believe it or not, you might get used to it.

 Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie - Active Display (3)

Call Quality | Carrier Service | Battery Life

As you know I frequent New York City all day and night. When testing out call quality, the other party said they could hear me clearly, but they could also hear the background noise quite well.

As always AT&T 4G LTE doesn’t fail me in the city. Pair the 4G LTE service alongside great battery life and you know it’s a good thing. I rarely had to pull out my battery pack to charge the Moto X. The few times I did, it was after a long day that meant 13+ hours of heavy use. I have multiple social media apps running and I snap pics of everything (even if I don’t share them).

You can check AT&T’s coverage of your area HERE.

You can check AT&T’s smartphone plans HERE.

Moto X - The Underrated Mid-Range Phone [Review] - Analie (2)

Moto X for You?

Besides the fact that you can custom make a Moto X, the Moto X definitely feels like a personal phone. Its assist features and simple navigation / activation maneuvers help you interact with it on a personal level. At the introductory price of $99 (with contract), it’s a great and inexpensive option to other luxury phones. Don’t overlook the Moto X because it’s not the best phone on paper. Think of the everyday use and situations, and you will see how the Moto X fits the bill perfectly. From battery life, to the custom look, to the helpful features, the Moto X sounds more appealing than many other phones on the market now. It’s not the standout phone, but it can stand out once you customize it. Great package deal all around.

Today Is National Drive 4 Pledges Day #ITCANWAIT

September 19th, 2013 by Christen Rochon

Over the summer, we’ve urged our readers to re-evaluate their act of texting while driving.  Months ago, many of you learned about the dangers of texting while driving and the devastating aftermath that one moment of bad judgement can cause.   Here’s a roundup highlighting this summer’s #ITCANWAIT campaign:

May 28th 2013 - Texting While Driving Causes “100 Deadliest Days” #ItCanWait

July 2nd 2013 - Put Your Skills To The Test With The Texting While Driving Simulator Online

July 12th - Texting & Driving Isn’t Just A Teen Problem…Take The Pledge & Spread The Word #ItCanWait

August 12th - Think Before You Send That Next Text… #ItCanWait

On Sept. 19, It Can Wait, cell phone carriers and advocates will team up to take the movement to the next level. Join us on this nationwide day of action and help us encourage every driver to make a personal commitment not to text and drive – and recruit others to do the same.   Today is National Drive 4 Pledges Day and on this day, we’re asking friends, readers and supporters to spread the word in three easy steps.

#ITCANWAIT itcanwaitdotcom

#ItCanWait

1.  Join the cause and spread the word.  (It could save a life!)  Join #ItCanWait and @ATT for Drive 4 Pledges Day! Take the pledge to never text and drive again at ItCanWait.com.

#ITCANWAIT twibbon support

#ItCanWait

2.  Show your support by updating your avitar for the day.  Add an It Can Wait Twibbon to your social media avatars to show your support via twibbon.com/Support/It-Can-Wait

#ItCanWait Hand

I’ll be spreading the good #ITCANWAIT word via hand all day in honor of Drive 4 Pledges Day!

#ItCanWait

3.  Lend a hand on INSTAGRAM.  Get on Instagram to share the It Can Wait message by writing #ItCanWait on your hand and sharing the photo along with why you’re taking a stand against texting and driving.

That’s it!  In seconds your voice can become a powerful tool to shedding light on a too common issue that’s killing people everyday.

The numbers don’t lie: Texting and driving is a life-threatening epidemic.

  • Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to be in an accident
  • More than 100,000 texting-related accidents every year result in injuries or deaths
  • 90% of teens say they’d stop texting and driving if a friend in the car simply asked them
  • 97% of teen drivers agree that texting and driving is dangerous
  • 75% of teens say that texting and driving is common among their friends
  • 43% of teens admit to texting and driving
  • 49% of adult commuters admit to texting and driving
  • 77% of teens say that adults tell them not to text and drive, but do it themselves “all the time”

If you can convince one person to take the pledge and they can convince another, this epidemic can easily be eradicated — but it starts with you!  Take the pledge and join the #ITCANWAIT movement today!
