This week, VH1 reality personality of “LaLa’s Full Court Life” – LaLa Anthony was spotted by The Fashion Bomb sporting a trendy, yet surprisingly wallet-friendly outfit.  The former MTV VJ wore her favorite Christian Louboutin Summerissima Sandals and a $17.50 Kmart Attention Tunnel Belt Dress while on a media run this week.

This women’s dress from Attention has a bold geometric pattern, flirty flutter sleeves and a trendy tunnel belt for a fashionable look that’s retro and contemporary all at the same time, and sophisticated and fun all in one. We originally spotted this trend of fashionable looks from KMart earlier this year.  Now with the fashionistas embracing these fashionable looks, it’s only a matter of time until the rest of the world realizes what we knew all along… “Money Can’t Buy Style!

#FASHIONWEEKPROBLEMS ??? Kmart to the Rescue!

#FASHIONWEEKPROBLEMS???? Kmart to the Rescue

Fashion Week is one of my favorite events in New York. It’s the time where we are able to dress up in our favorite look, prep our flawless hair and make up,  and break out our highest heels only to drool over the new Fashion trends as they come down the runway. NY Fashion Week is one of the busiest weeks for D&D and many other fashionistas. Its every girl’s dream, but in a drop of a dime, it could be your worst nightmare because of a wardrobe malfunction. That is why Kmart has come to the rescue and teamed up with the T Shirt line SOPHMORE and twitter as the official Concierge for all of our fashion mishaps. On Thursday, Kmart hosted an event to kick things off of bringing awareness to all of our fashion woes…in addition…I was able to preview some of their designers new looks, set to hit the racks this week. There were so many fun pieces and the price point was too good to be true. Nothing was over 30 bucks! Check out a few of my favorite pieces.

Money Can’t Buy You Style…

July 20th, 2011 by Christen

This fall 2011, Kmart will debut an unexpected advertising campaign, titled “Money Can’t Buy Style,” — aimed at empowering customers to embrace their individualism when approaching fashion. Rather than focusing on brand names or even trends, the ads will emphasize self-expression in fashion by featuring real people in Kmart looks they’ve created themselves.

Money Can’t Buy You Style – Behind The Scenes…

Personally, I’m a fan of this concept, DivasandDorks.com has been sharing for months many of the stylish options that Kmart offers for those budget-friendly fashionistas.  (Personally, I own two rompers short/long that have become summer staples in my closet).  Kmart invites people to “show us what you got” and will include 20 real people in a variety of pieces from the fall 2011 Kmart collections, selected and styled by each individual. The Kmart team spent three weeks hitting the streets across the country to find real people who reveled in their individual style and brought it to life in incredibly unique ways. Personality, creativity and confidence are key to style: the new stars of the campaign definitely have all three.

In addition to highlighting the true style of everyday people and the attainability of great fashion, the campaign is designed to convey the insignificance of money in making a statement. With new brands and a new approach to style, Kmart hopes its accessible fashion environment will also excite the senses and inspire unique, personal style through mixing and matching.

So there you have it folks, why spend thousands of dollars to highlight someone else’s definition of style when you can create your own, with Kmart.

Love Your (KMART) Style!

June 24th, 2011 by Cat Peoples

On Saturday June 18, 2011, one of Full Figured Fashion Week’s leading sponsors, Kmart hosted a delightful Bloggers Brunch at the Marriot Marquis Hotel located in Time Square New York to reveal their new Plus Size Line, LYS (Love Your Style, Love Your Size). As I slowly approached the Conference Room , my nose caught a whiff of the delicious food prepared for us, and from that I knew there were great things in store for us to experience; and boy was I right! It is no secret that I love to buy fun and flirty looks for the summer at an extremely low price and although I expected for Kmart to present us with some low priced looks, I did not expect it to be a bit fun nor flirty. To my surprise, Kmart not only delivered a variety of looks from maxi dresses to rompers, but they were fun, trendy and Young looks perfect for the summer! My favorite pieces were the printed maxi dresses (great for a Saturday shopping day with the girls) and the chic rompers (perfect for a night on the town). The new LYS collection is located at selected K Mart stores and at www.kmartfashion.com with a size range of 1x-3x and price range at $14.99-$39.99.

LYS Print Romper only $17.49 (Also Available in Blue)

LYS Woodbead Maxi Dress only $17.49

LYS Cut Out Back Dress only $17.49 (Also available in Coffee)

Fashion140 Takes NYC!

April 20th, 2011 by Christen

Join Divas and Dorks on May 4, 2011 along with representatives from the world’s leading fashion namesakes where we will convene at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall for the inaugural Fashion140 Conference. Fashion, media experts, celebrities and innovators will come together to discuss the growing impact of emerging social media and technological advancements on the style-driven industry. With over 60 leading speakers from Facebook, Twitter, Google Boutiques, Gilt Group, Urban Outfitters, Neiman Marcus, Bonobos, Hautelook, Kmart Fashion and Time Inc., to name a few, and a dynamic program made of short speaking slots and panels, the conference aims to showcase a unique global perspective of the fashion industry and its future.

Fashion140 is co-curated by Jeff Pulver, producer of 140 Characters Conference, which analyzes effects of real-time internet on businesses in varying industries and Lilly Berelovich, CEO of Fashion Snoops, an innovative online forecasting service. The partnership started at one of Jeff’s event where the two met and deiced it is time to narrow down the focus on the fashion market. “Not many people know that clothing has the largest sales value of all eCommerce categories”, said Jeff Pulver, “Surprisingly it still makes only 7% of the total 370B$ spent overall on clothing, which demonstrates the unrealized potential. To effectively compete it is imperative for retailers and brands to establish clear digital and social media strategies”. Conference discourse will cover topics such as the changing face of retail, customer engagement, celebrities and social media, real-time fashion reporting, and social return on investment. “Aside the obvious well-oiled marketing-driven fashion brands are leading the social media revolution, we see many old-school businesses that still look the other way”, says Berelovich, “but the change is eminent; with retail shifting to new types of e-commerce, with direct brand-to-consumer engagement and personalized social shopping environments, whoever stays behind may miss the boat. These are just a few examples we will be discussing at #fashion140”

For detailed information regarding speakers, plan, sponsorship opportunities, and press access, please visit www.fashion140.com. Make sure to follow @DIVASANDDORKS for special ticket discounts leading up to the event OR you can just click HERE for your special discount compliments of Fashion140 and DivasandDorks.com (a portion of proceeds from these ticket sales will be donated to charity.)  Get your tickets today, seats are limited.

See You There.

My NYFW Diary :UPDATES:

February 18th, 2011 by Christen

Welcome to the unauthorized diary of Divas and Dorks (New York Fashion Week – Edition).  This post will be updated daily as I re-locate blurred memories of my fashion week excursion including shows, parties, lounges and more.  (Actually, I’ll begin by revisiting my twitter feed to hopefully jog some memories…)  Enjoy…Check back often as I’ll be adding videos, photos and more…and if I met you at Lincoln Center or out and about this week in NYC — please drop me a line and comment on our experience… ((that’ll help re-jog my memory too *wink*))

To relive my minute by minute NYFW accounts check out my twitter page HERE.

Monday, February 14th – I spent my Valentine’s day fashionably loving my body at the Lookbooks Blogger Break Room!

NYFW kicked off with a visit to the Lookbooks: Blogger Break Room

The Blogger Break Room was filled with bloggers, stylists and fellow fashion aficionados taking a break to recharge their minds, bodies and smartphones.  We indulged in wine, cupcakes, massages, manicures and more!  And I was formally introduced to Louise Manna Jewelry’s 2011 collection.  (We may be stylishly showcasing some upcoming Louise Manna pieces *crossing fingers*)

While there, I got the best massage from Olga….(yes, that’s her real name!) from Spa Merge.

Special thanks to Lookbooks, and FashionIndie for hosting this extraordinary event!  My body, mind and Blackberry thanks you!

OH NO!!!! Lugging around all these swag bags and fashion runway notebooks, I happened to pop a button on my favorite Diane Von Furstenburg leather jacket!  That’s when Kmart Concierge came to the rescue!  With one tweet, I asked Kmart to send over a survival kit and sewing kit to my Harlem apartment so that I could revive my jacket in time for my first show of the day!

Kmart Fashion’s Concierge service sent over some great essentials to keep me fresh and sane during New York Fashion Week.

TA-DAAAAAH!  I was able to sew my button back on and strut around looking biker-chic during fashion week :)

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

Wednesday, February 16th – I indulged in another “break” from the runway shows, fashion presentations and overall Lincoln Center traffic when I headed east for The Daily’s Beauty Bar at Townhouse Spa.  The spa was the place to be and break free from the craziness known as fashion week.  Even some reality celebutants took the time to stop by for some free swag, services and more!

Aubrey O’Day took a break from promoting her new Oxygen show “All About Aubrey” to  snag some Hanes legwear swag…

The Hills co-star (and “Spedi” relative) Stephanie Pratt took time out to get a free do’ compliments of Townhouse Spa.

I scored a 1-hr massage from Townhouse Spa…it was the real deal!!!

Not to mention a complete manicure and pedicure…that charcoal grey color is my current fav!

KMART: At Your Service (NYFW)

February 11th, 2011 by Christen

Guess who’s at your fashion beck & call?  KMART!

A select number of New York Fashion Week attendees, including yours truly and other “influencers,” will be getting a little extra attention this week, courtesy of Kmart.

The mass retailer has equipped a number of them with a “survival kit” containing an assortment of small essentials, including lip balm, breath mints and stockings, to help them make it through the week. Should kit recipients need a refill of any of these items — or if they should need, for example, stain remover or a compact sewing kit — they can simply send a request to@KmartFashion over Twitter, select menu items using the #KmartConcierge hashtag and direct message their location details for hand delivery.

The service is available between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. through next Thursday.

It’s a clever initiative — and the first the retailer has launched during Fashion Week. Many a Twitter user will be avidly following the tweets of New York Fashion Week attendees, and Kmart hopes that the #KmartConcierge will be intriguing enough for followers to click through to learn more.
